cherrywood
Hi, This is my 1st time on a forum! I would be delighted for any initial advise or tips you have to give us on getting started! We have decided to take the plunge and move from Scotland to Oz! We are a family with 2 kids aged 7 & 9. We are in the very early stages of our visa application and my hubby will soon have to sit his IELTS and skills test. which will be fun, NOT! We have visited Queensland several times as I have some family there, in particular Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast and ideally would like to move there. However, my hubby is a Bricklayer and there appears to be lots of work for him in Perth. We will be travelling on a skilled migration visa so are not limited as to where we can go. I'm just trying to weigh up the pros and cons of Perth and surrounding areas to Queensland/Brisbane. Obviously having family in Queensland is a big plus for me, however I'm not scared to do it alone in Perth if the work situation & quality of life is going to be easier/better for us. Does anyone know what the work is like for Trademen in and around Brisbane? Also, anybody know what the quality of life is like in Perth compared to Brisbane? We would ideally move to the sunny coast or perth in Feb 2016, and get a cheap holiday rental for a while until we can secure a longer term rental. which i believe could be tricky for us as we are home owners in the Uk and have no rental history. We will not be selling up our home in the Uk to make the move, this may come later if things work out in Oz for us. I think I've asked enough, if anyone can offer any advise on any of the issues I have raised above that would be great! Looking forward to hearing from you. kirstyc822
Hey Cherrywood, Just saying hi, we are moving from Falkirk to Brisbane in May, my hubby is a vehicle builder (currently works for Alexanders in Camelon). We are going with his skilled visa. We decided on Brisbane as we loved the area when we went backpacking 7 years ago, we now have a 3 year old daughter and think it will be a lovely place to live. Saying that, we are fully ready to settle where we can find work! Sorry, I cant offer any advice yet as we are at the start of our adventure! flatpack
I'm a chippie in Perth and there is masses of work here, especially for brickies. Can't comment on Brisbane other than we loved it when we travelled back in 09, fantastic vibe to the city.
