Mental Health Nursing job for newly qualified and Learning Support/Teaching Assistant Advice

Hi all,

I was wondering if I could pick the brains of you wonderful people. I am a mental health nursing student who will qualify this year and aim to apply to live in Australia (particularly Victoria as we gave it a test drive on honeymoon last month, but I'll go anywhere they'll have me really!) with my wife. I was wondering if someone could maybe give me the run down of what to do first. I know I need to register with AHPRA but can I apply to do this shortly before qualifying in the UK as I can then perhaps cut short my waiting time. I was also wondering at what point can I apply for jobs. How much experience is necessary? I was reading others have said that graduate programmes are very hard to come by and my chances of obtaining one of these are slim, however is it worth applying anyway? If so, how do I go about it? If a job position required experience could I apply on the basis of getting the experience while I go through the process? My wife is a qualified teaching assistant in the UK however I have been told that her qualification does not equate in Aus, so is there alternative qualifications she could take if we are granted a visa and how much do these cost?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just home from honeymoon and so desperate to get back!

Thanks in advance

Nick

Hi Nick, congratulations on the honeymoon. I have moved your thread in to the migration section in the hope someone can help.
