Ozmaniac
If their permanent visas run out but you are living in Australia with citizenship, there's every chance they would be able to get Resident Return visas that would allow them to return to Australia as PRs and then stay here until they either qualify for a 5 year RRV or citizenship. The longer they stay out of Australia, the harder it will be to get the initial RRV. http://www.immi.gov.au/Visas/Pages/155-157.aspx
Tinaandco
Thanks Ozmaniac ! So does it not matter if rrv is not applied for before the original one runs out ?
Ozmaniac
No, that's not particularly important, but a) they shouldn't wait too long and b) there is no absolute guarantee that they will get RRVs- they probably will, but there's no certainty. Read the eligibility requirements on the link and you'll see that it's all pretty subjective UNLESS they have spent 2 years out of the previous 5 in Australia. If they have 2/5, they'll definitely get a 5 year RRV but if not, it's up to whoever processes the application and the best they can hope for is a 1 year RRV (or perhaps only a 3 month).
