What are the chances of being employer nominated (186) for a private / government secondary school teacher position? Is it the norm to negotiate with the employer during the interview process (and get some deal then)?

No harm in trying. I should not think there will be many examples on PIO though, most teachers can't find permanent jobs, never mind sponsorship.
