Hi,is ACCA recognised by employers in australia? Is it easy to climb the ladder with ACCA? Or is it better to go for the local exams like CA and ICAA?

Hi there,

Most of the agency recruiters are english here and therefore are aware of the ACCA accreditation.

Employers seem to prefer the local CPA/CA but will accept the uk accreditations.

It's worth warning you that the market is alot slower here than the uk, so be prepared to wait a while and potentially have to drop a level from the work you were doing before.

Do you think one can get good jobs with ACCA or should he/she go for local accreditatins? Also how long can one wait to get a job?

Hi all!

What do you think about non-UK and non-AUS accreditations in accounting? More specifically, I am an Italian Chartered Accountant (so called "dottore commercialista") and my specialty is tax advisory. I am currently employed by one of the Big4 and I have five years of experience in local and international taxation.

I want to move to AUS and I am going to attend two courses in australian commercial law and taxation law. Do you think that getting a job in the tax field will be difficult for me?

Hi, providing you are a fully qualified ACCA i see no reason why you wouldn't be able to get a good job in Oz. Personally i wouldn't see the benefit of retraining as a CA/CPA.

I'm CIMA accredited so slightly diferent, but it way be worth sending a quick email to the ACCA office for further advice.

Alot of the employers are global here, so they are likely to be more interested in whether you have relevant experience.

Check out a few revelant jobs on seek.com.au.

Minimum wait is 3 months, potentially less if you have plenty of experience in FMCG, mining or in the big 4. I would suggest you look to do some contracting first to get some local experience and this should put you in better position to get the longer term job in a field you want to work in.

Best thing is to get an internal move with your current company.

kuriatko, i don't have an experience in tax.

My suggestion though would be rotate internally with your firm into an australian role as this way you won't have a gap in your emplyment.

You may be able to get more information on the forum of your local accountancy accreditation.
