Electrician's Trades Assistant for your regional work?!

I've been a qualified electrician back in the UK for 7 years and I'm currently on a WHV trying to find farm work to get qualified for my second year. I've been offered an opportunity to be an electrician's trade assistant on a construction site in Mackay (which I believe is classed as regional Australia) and I'm desperately wondering if this would this count towards my second year?

I've phoned Australian immigration twice now but to no avail on both accounts! They both just seem to read the information on their website which in my eyes both 'building installation services' and 'mining support services' would seem to say a plumber, electrician, gas fitter, or any trade really would count.

I've also emailed the 2nd year immigration help desk but just get an automated reply back saying they can't help me until I've lodged an application which just seems silly!

Been reading this forum for ages now, but somehow this is my first post! With the experience of most people on this site I'm hoping someone can advise me on the subject!

Thanks in advance! Matt.

Thanks Copplemeister! That's the answer I was looking for :)

Where did you find out about this info anyway?! I thought I literally looked at every bit of the Immi website!

It is my pleasure to be of assistance Matt. Out of interest, have you considered going down the route of sponsorship or skilled immigration visa with your Electrical trade?

Well done on getting the opportunity with being on the tools , its got to be more useful to us than picking fruit. Which state are you in Oz and how long have you been looking for regional farm work?

best wishes

Copple
