Hello I am 36 years of age and and computer programmer in the UK.
I am looking at applying for either a 190 or 489 visa.
I have 8 years experience as a contractor, never been out of work and have worked on a permanent basis before this time. Unfortunately I do not have a computer science degree. From contacting migration agents this seems to be a real sticking point and my application is not taken forward. I have read the below:
The Australian Computer Society require a minimum of 2 years highly relevant work experience including a relevant degree or up to 8 years if you do not have a formal qualification. This work period also cannot be claimed under the points test.
I was wondering does this mean without a computer science degree my work experience will not be taken into account towards points for my application?
Migrating to Australia has always been a dream. At this point i'm trying to establish if i still have options available. It is hard hearing the news so far.
1) Do I need to get a computer science degree at this point in my career?
2) Would my chances of being successful applying for 489 be higher than 190?
3) Is New Zealand a better option with the intention of applying to Oz in the future.
4) If i submit an EOI it is better to be in the queue or wait until criteria, quotes perhaps change?
