Congratulations finally the process completed!
did you receive an email to collect the passport?
Yes I got the email yesterday and went to collect this morning. Note that 2 weeks ago I called the passport office (on wait line for 2 hours) to follow up + change to collect in person

My final update as I got my passport today. From start to end for me was a c.20-month process.

Application approval: 10 Mar 2022 (3 days after the test)
Ceremony date: 11 Apr 2022 (1 month from approval, c.17.5 months from application).Ceremony in Manningham (VIC) council
Passport application: 20 Apr 2022
Passport collection: 23 Jun 2022 (9-10 weeks from application). I collected in person in Melbourne, spent 4 hours at the passport office

Can I know how to check the passport status online? If applied via post office in paper form
I created the application online and lodged in person at Auspost. I can check the status of the application at https://www.passports.gov.au/
I think you can always call up the passport office to check the status using the reference number (and expects 1.5-2.0 hour wait time)

Could someone please suggest if online passport application is better or paper application?
Which one is less time consuming?
And how long is it taking to get the new passport these days? (Passport office says allow up to 6 weeks)Thanks
I have been waiting for the passport for 7 weeks...checking online the website still say 'under assessment'
Application can be created online but eventually you still have to go to Auspost to lodge your application.

Hi Microstarba,
If you don't mind, could you please tell me if you applied for the passport after the ceremony? How long after the ceremony were you able to apply and have you received it? If you have, how long did it take after you applied?
Thanks
Hi there, hope you are keeping well
I'm still waiting to receive the passport, and can provide the update once i get it. But basically:
- Ceremony on 11 April,
- The instruction mentioned wait for 10 business days before applying for passport, but I tried online (passports.gov.au) and it allowed me to apply after 3 days (i.e. the website managed to validate the certificate number)
- Given Easter break, I only went to lodge it at Australia Post on 20 April and now still waiting. On the website, status is "under assessment"
Hope it helps

Many congratulations. It's an exciting news. Hope they keep up the pace. To my surprise, they took care of about 18,000 citizenship applications last month (overall - by conferral). So happy that things are slowly speeding up.
Thanks. Good luck to you with the process too. I will probably give another update on how the process of applying for a passport is

Update with my timeline to date. Long wait so far but hopefully things are moving quicker now
Region: Melbourne, VIC
Number of applicants: 1
Citizenship application: Oct 2020
Appointment letter received: Jan 2022 (15 months from application)
Test: 7 Mar 2022 (16.5 months from application), and passed

Updated ceremony invitation. Guys this is surprisingly fast as I thought it would be another 6-8 months wait for the ceremony so I hope this is a good sign for all the people waiting in VIC

Hey, there actually is already a file for this! Just search for My Immi Tracker and go to the website, create an account for Australia, and select the Citizenship Processing Tracker. You can even use filters. I do it so I can see just NSW data and people are really good at updating their timelines
Oh great this is exactly what i was thinking about. Thanks for sharing -
I kinda feel like we need to set up a shared spreadsheet and kindly ask everyone to update their timeline in there. Once we’ve got that, I think a lot of the questions can be answered and people can refer to it for general timeline
I’m happy to set up the file. But keen to hear if people are interested in the idea- 1

Hi team just wondering do we need to bring current country of citizenship during interview my interviews schdule in april i lost original one but i got notaries one with me its take more then 1month to get it another one from home country
ThanksWhat document are you actually referring to? My experience going to the test (last week / in Melbourne VIC) was they only looked at my driver licence and passport (mainly to confirm your identity). I did bring along my birth certificate (assuming this is the doc you are talking about) but wasn't needed

Hi Everyone, Just received a phone call from council for the Moreton Bay ceremony on March 21st next Monday.
If anyone else has a feeling that they should have been invited by now to a citizenship ceremony and haven't received anything. check your relatives email. - As apparently because I mention my mother on my application as close family and provided contact details including email address, they sent my invite to her email, she's hopeless at checking emails lol. (and yes I checked my immi account and my email is the primary corresponded email address - always has been)
So they rung me as they had not heard from me, it was a private number lucky I picked up. Apparently Home Affairs gave them the wrong email address. So just a heads up to everyone. Although they rung me - its still last minute and I could have been out of town and not been able to make it back on time.
My Timeline:
Applied for Citizenship: 12 May 2021
Invitation for Test and Interview received on 15 June 2021 for 15 July 2021
Rescheduled myself to 25 June 2021
Approved 25 June 2021 Same day - received my official letter by mail a few days after
Invite to Ceremony: 15/03/2022 for 21/03/2022 (should have received invite at least 2 weeks ago)
Hope this information helps!
Hi Amy, so you waited c.7-8 months from approval to ceremony? and you are in QLD.. Then I can only assume VIC will take longer than that unless someone has got a better experience to share...
Congrats and enjoy the ceremony ahead

Hi, I think what you have done is right. I am in the same boat, Applied feb 2021 and still waiting. Status showing received- Melbourne.
Thanks for confirming and good luck to you

I've got a question and appreciated if someone had the same situation can shed some light
My application was lodged in October 2020 under my old passport (expired now). In 2021, given the expiring passport, I got a new one and following this, I've updated details on immi account and attached a scanned copy of the new passport to my citizenship application
Is that all I need to do or am I missing something?
I'm still haven't heard any update re. my application (14 months already). Some background details as follow:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Current visa: subclass 189 (granted 2016)
Citizenship application: Oct 2020
Region: Melbourne, VIC
Number of applicants: 1
Application status: Received
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you all

Hi there, I applied late October 2020 so been a year now... Well, I hope they WFH. Other states other than VIC still progressing pretty quickly

Hi
Has anyone here applied for citizenship recently? I am from Melbourne with an application lodged on 30th of July 2021. However, since then, there hasn't been any updates or test invitation yet. Is there anyone else here experiencing delays too?
Would appreciate a response.
Thanks.
--Gabriel
Looks like Melbourne/VIC is really slow compared to other states. Since Covid hits the typical waiting time has been c.1 year. But hopefully for applications lodged recently the process will be a bit faster...

For the test/interview date, we got an email from DHA and a notification/message on our immi account. We were based in Melbourne back then.
And for the ceremony, we were invited via email from our Moreton Bay Regional Council (Qld) by their marketing team. They only sent one email to my hubby with the invitation for all applicants. I have friends in BNE who were invited via mail postage.
Thanks Nora for the details

I got an email invite... It's also listed on the immi AC message section
Thank you. Yes that would be the preferred approach. Many people mentioned 'phone calls' so I wonder if it's different by state / case / current visa scheme etc.

Hi all hope everyone is safe. I'm new here and waiting for my application to be processed (based in Melbourne VIC) and I think it should be coming in the next 1-2 months. So I've got a question: Do you get an email notification / message in your immi account, OR do you get a phone call that you are supposed to pick up? I usually don't pick up strange numbers hence the question.
Thanks all,
Cheers,

Hope things go smoothly for you too and look forward to hearing your update. FYI, rocked up at 6:30am this morning at the passport office and the line was already out of control and we spent most of the queuing time outdoor on the street (freezing). So if you are to pick it up in person, be prepared as we're heading into winter
