  1. Hi all! I'm on a 417 working holiday visa currently, and I'm due to return to the UK in October. I'm struggling to figure out if I need to declare and pay tax on personal items I have brought in Australia and want to take home with me. I'm an idiot, so I can't make hwads or tails of the government website pages. I've tried contacting HMRC and I've had 4 different answers from 4 different people, with one of them saying every single one of my belongings (both things I brought with me from the UK and things I purchased in Oz) will be taxed upon my return. Now, I'm thoroughly confused and wondering whether I will have to pay hundreds of pounds just to get my things back into my own country, most of them purchased in the UK in the first place! Does anyone have any experience with customs and moving back to the UK? I'm going to be flying with most of my belongings and shipping one item (my most heavy and expensive purchase in Australia) back.
  2. Hi all! I'm new to this forum, and I joined mainly because I don't really have anyone else to talk to regarding my planned move to Australia. I'm am RN with a UK bachelor's degree, a provisional AHPRA registration, a 417 working holiday visa, an agency job lined up in Oz, and an exemption to travel from the Australiab government The one thing I don't have? A flight!!! Mine was just cancelled with a couple of weeks to go. Since I had to give 8 weeks' notice for leaving my job in the UK, I am consequently jobless. Its really left me in a difficult, worrying and thoroughly stressful situation. Has anyone else experienced this during the pandemic?
