What in this case means post qualification ? 😆 As my MARA agent said it is post met date from skills assessment. I'm confused, would be nice if you can briefly explain that, and I will talk with my agent. Thanks

This is post qualification experience, please see below. 22F23EF5-CC01-4AB9-AB8D-471829ABE3CE.thumb.jpeg.c32781672bee10035d6bf8e82e783f35.jpeg

For the 186, to have a positive skills assessment and to have 3 years of skilled work experience are 2 different requirements. This means that any year of relevant experience post-qualification can be counted, regardless of the deeming date of the skills assessment authority (which, on the contrary, is relevant for the points tested visas e.g. 189, 190, 491).

So, there is no problem with the below?

It sounds a bit odd to take 4 years from your oversea experience. I've done 2 skill assessments with ACS before (1st try was not successful). My 5 years of oversea experience was not identified at all in my first try. I then uploaded more documents to prove my case and then they only took 2 years off that. Maybe consider provide more documents especially make sure your oversea position description completely match 'ANZSCO Code 262112 (ICT Security Specialist)'.

I was a project manager and a programmer at the same time when I worked oversea. But in order to make sure my position match what I applied for. I only mentioned my position as 'programmer' and asked my former employer to provide a reference letter to compliance with that.

My former employer was very surprised that I didn't want to mention anything about my PM role in the company (since it regards as a higher position than programmer in the company). I explained to them that if I apply for a job, the more roles I have played the better. But when it comes to skilled immigration, the simpler the easier.

I am not sure if your previous position is exactly named as 'ICT Security Specialist' or not. But if not, maybe consider describe it as totally undebatable to the position. That what I've done to my oversea position and I've never regretted about that after the 2nd skill assessment was recognised successfully.

    Hi JessiQ,

I had the same situation just like yours, I worked as a network security specialist previously. When I did my skills assessment it came out as "Not Suitable for migration". Then I submitted another document from my previous employer and it came out right. But ACS took 4 years out of work experience.

I don't know what to do next, so I jumped in here.

My MARA agent emphasis this two aspects, one is from https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/working-in-australia/skills-assessment

which I attached, and there is a sentence "You must also have been employed in the occupation full-time for at least 3 years, at the level of skill required for the occupation."

another document is ACS skills assessment which you've uploaded, there is another sentence "The following employment after 31 January 2020 is considered  to equate to work at an appropriately skilled level and relevant to ANZSCO Code 262112 (ICT Security Specialist)"

This is unfortunately quite straightforward, however it is worth to check with different MARA agent, you can ask people here, but theirs answer is just a subjective opinion same as mine’s . You can also call to immi, they should answer you for that question via phone. I had a problem w medical appointment and called them and they answered for all my questions.

Thanks for the explanation, Adam. You're right that the answer to this question is subjective. However, I gave immi helpline a call and they asked me to look online and there was no straightforward answer from them. I have already applied for the visa so I think I will leave it to the fine sense of judgement of DHA and case officer.

    Hi Horus,

AFAIK, if you are on 186 Direct Entry you need to have additional 3 years experience.

    https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/working-in-australia/skills-assessment

"You must also have been employed in the occupation full-time for at least 3 years, at the level of skill required for the occupation."

It is good to get opinion from a different MARA agent, but I double checked that with my and they confirmed what I wrote above.

Thanks for sharing that, I was aware of that website which states “3 years relevant experience” but it doesn’t say that experience has to be approved by ACS.

Same for me as well. I have close to 4 years of relevant work experience but ACS took 2 years out of that for Skills Assessment. I talked to an agent and they said that only the experience after Skill Requirement Met Date counts which leaves me with a little less than 2 years of experience.

In the requirement for 186 visa, DOHA has written "have at least 3 years relevant work experience, unless you are exempt" which is a bit vague.

I am wondering if anyone else in our situation has applied for 186 visa and if they can share their experience.

Well it states “have a 3 years relevant work experience” which I have according to the documents provided by my previous companies but ACS has some different opinion altogether. Strange thing is my company’s “migration specialist” said that it’ll be fine. Wondering if I can get any other opinion.

p.s I have applied for the visa and done my medicals.

  8. Hi All,

I have been a silent reader for quite some time now. I was intrigued by the question asked by a user regarding the work experience.

My story is that I have 4.5 years of full-time work experience in one of the IT fields. I did my ACS and it came as suitable for migration under ANZSCO code but they took 4 years out of my work experience. I am left with 4 months of “valid experience” which is unfair honestly. My company nominated me for visa 186 and I have applied for the same in July.  Does anyone know that how my work experience will be counted in this situation? Will it impede in getting my permanent residency.

P.S. - I have attached all the work experience related documents  like payslips, tax statements, bank account statements and employment reference letters. I have also talked to a registered MARA agent and he didn’t sound confident to me. Any help is much appreciated.
