So, to try and show you part of the reason it takes time:  The instructions for applying include :

"For every dependant 18 years old or younger who is applying with you, provide:
copies of birth certificates or the family book showing the names of both parents of all your dependent children"

So, by not supplying this, they have to stop, contact you, male a note on the file to say that they have contacted you to request the missing details, plus how and when. Possibly cease processing for a while as they can't continue until they are sure they are processing a child who is genuinely part of the family unit.

When you supply the document they probably wait till they reach a point when they are at a standstill with the application they were processing in the meantime. Then they need to log the arrival of the document, file it electronically, pick up the file again, refresh their memory as to where they had got to, verify its what they needed, and that the details of the parents match the other ID documents in the application, and then continue with the next bit.

Are you getting the idea? 🙂

Very much so. Admittedly it was a genuine mistake as I thought both parts of  the kids birth certificates were uploaded. Sadly one wasn’t and it was sent within two hours! But I get your point! 👍

  2. We have progress. My application has gone from received to “further assessment”.

It’s nice to know it’s been looked at. They have requested another version of my daughters birth certificate with biological parent names on it - the wife and I. That was sent over this morning. I hope I don’t go to the bottom of the pile! Also if they find something they need to check further do they stop the application or do they carry on and check it all?! I’m hoping the later!

    Why do you think that?

bit of a crazy idea really - can you imagine a) the size of the server required, and b) the horrendous privacy issues!!

I meant as in a simple phone call or request. They only need to check maybe a certificate number and it will be logged on a computer somewhere in the UK

I often wondered, how long does it actually take to approve your visa. They check all your documents, they're all there. Stamp!

This is what makes me so annoyed. Do they have to stick with a certain amount per day? I get it if some of the documents come from countries where they may not be logged digitally and further checks must be made. All documents from the UK would be logged on a computer which they should have access to which should make the process very easy for them.

You are funny. I checked yesterday and it says up to 6 months for 90% of applications. So I am just thinking it will be December and if it’s before then it’s a bonus. It might be longer!! Saying that, I know your whole process has been far longer than ours which probably makes it feel more urgent. Really hope you hear soon.

Yeah it's been 4 years in the making - mainly thanks for Covid and then all our assessments running out of time and becoming invalid!

Bit of a random one for this topic but in the process of the EOI and trying to piece together my overseas travel which is proving tricky as I travel a lot I am currently on 33 overseas trips in 10 years but concerned I have missed some or the dates aren’t exact. Has anyone encountered this at the EOI stage?

it also requests my addresses since birth I am just away to be 35 so lived in a few addresses I have them all but not sure on all the exact dates I moved in and out of them all.  Will this also be a problem?

I went on Google Photos which ive used for years and years to track all my dates over the last ten years. This was one of the hardest things on the EOI, and then to do it again for my wife!

Im sure the addresses wasnt all the way to birth and Im sure year will do?

It says "Received".  When I go to my health checks page it says, "All health examinations required for the specified visa subclass have been finalised. Processing of this person's visa application can now continue. This will not occur until a case officer investigates the case in line with published processing times for the visa that has been applied for. Do not contact the department about health examinations in the meantime."

    What does your say?

    Exactly the same.

I am weighing it out. I am just nervous as Rob pointed out, "When we applied in May it instantly asked us to book our health checks. Does that mean my processing time stopped straight away until we submitted the health checks in late May?". However, Ken explained, "Your processing time started in January. If they got to the point where they needed your health checks, they would have contacted you and paused processing until the health checks were received. The health checks used to be one of the last things before the visa is issued. Unless that has changed then (based on the fact that they haven't issued the visa yet) it seems highly unlikely that they had got to that point in your processing by April."  Therefore, I am still not entirely sure if my visa went into the queue in January or April.

On your immipage does it say received or processing (or something similar)?

Thank you for your help!  Just to make sure I understand, they will cancel the 189 visa or tourist visa or both?

By chance, do you know the answer to "I applied in January and submitted health checks in April; therefore, I'm not sure if my processing time starts in January or April."

    Thank you!

When we applied in May it instantly asked us to book our health checks. Does that mean my processing time stopped straight away until we submitted the health checks in late May?

    Hi mate

I never used an agent and got a couple of things wrong, they just came back to me and asked to change it or upload something else.

They seemed to get straight back to me also and not put me at the back of the queue.

That may not happen with everyone but it did with me.

Thats put me at ease now. I read somewhere they can just decline straight away. I was also worried id go to the back of the queue!

    How long has it been?

If there was anything wrong with your application you’d hear about it. It’s just a waiting game for your application to hit the top of the pile

Would it be an instant decline or would it simply be - scan this in better etc etc?

Pretty sure everyone does that. Some of us more than once a day!   Entirely normal

Glad to hear...... I've got everything crossed - and now kid of wish that I did go through an agent but everything seems correct on the form and I wouldn't say im a stupid guy!

The Stinger does look a great car. It is a shame it is being discontinued so long term value may be unknown.

A Ford Mustang would be worth considering.

Prefer the stinger to be honest as it's so rare over here. I know the police use them over there so maybe not that rare when I get there. I was at a meet yesterday up in the lake district with 10 other owners and they have all made a profit out of their cars if they were to sell today.

Are they not offering incentives/relocation support for teachers in WA? I think I'd be too nervous to put things on credit cards before I get there, I'd rather have the liquid funds as a safety net. It's finding a rental I'm concerned about and paying higher costs for airbnb etc until I find one, hoping I won't run out of money. I'm not planning on moving without a job pre-arranged though.

They are offering incentives in the pool, however you have to work where they put you. Most cases this is hours and hours away from Perth. If I were younger id be interested in this however im coming up to 40 and want to be near the city. I'm sure it'll be pretty quick to find a teaching role, however, if not I can do cover work.

Are you in healthcare or teaching? They might still be processing those occupations as a priority so it might take less than the 6 months they are currently quoting for average processing time. I'm planning for going over maybe September/October next year. There's a lot I need to get sorted here and saving up more money since the costs are mounting up. I'm trying to time the 189 grant and having a year to enter to activate it with being able to get a job and do the nursing registration which needs to present in person within 3 months of provisional grant. I'd rather not have to go to activate the visa then come back to UK then back again.

We're both teachers and it sounds like WA is in desperate need of teachers. Admittedly we have put all the costs on a  credit card and will pay off later once over there with the extra income!
