Why not ask them that question.  I'm guessing "Movecube transfer" is the transfer from the port city to their depot in your city.

You were correct, however the cost is land transport from Melbourne to Perth as they don’t go to Perth by ship!!!

  2. I asked movecube why the costs once in Australia are so high. They didn't give a response but just gave me a breakdown.  Is it me or is that "Movecube Transfer" very high. What do we think that consists of as all I can think of is off the ship to the warehouse?

  3. Still checking out quotes for moving over to Australia in August. We did have our sights set on a medium movecube but we do now believe that they are not worth it. We did put a deposit down on a medium movecube (107 Cubic Feet/ 3.04 cubic m) costing £1126 for shipping, however, we have to pay £1044 on the other side for customs. That second cost seems insane.

We then looked at a large movecube (216 cubic feet/ 6.14 cubic m) which would cost £2154 and then a whopping £1581 on the other side for customs...  Am I missing something?

I've now asked John Mason for a quote and given them 216 cubic feet as a reference and they have come back with £1317 and a £220 AQIS charge for the inspection of goods in Perth.

PSS Removals have come back even cheaper...... are these quotes fishing me in or are there hidden costs the movecube covers that these other companies don't stat?e

What accommodation are you getting when you arrive in Aus?

We'll be staying with friends for a while until we get a rental. We're renting in the UK now so its been difficult to save up with two young kids!

Sounds good. What about the 4,640 AUD visa cost ? Will they just be charged if I get an invitation ?

Youe EOI will be free. If you get an invite then you pay for it. Obviously you'll need to get your skills checked first from AITSL.

  6. We have changed our Movecube date to 2nd August - and then leave the UK 19th August. Airbeds for two weeks(!) We have put a deposit down however I can see us changing providers just to something a bit bigger. Quotes inbound shortly. Im assuming we'llbe a shared container.

  7. So we have had the sheets out for the movecube and we "could" get away with a large movecube possibly - however, we want to see if any company will give us a quote for something slightly larger than a large movecube. It would be good if Movecube did a "Huge" movecube!!! We don't need a 20ft container as that'll be a waste. Its £2000 for a medium movecube with no insurance and £4000 for a large - again no insurance. I've got a quote from Doree Bonner for £6930 for 750ft cubed?? and PSS International has said £3893 for a 3-bedroom house?! John Mason's website said it would be free - so the website doesnt work as expected!!! 🙂

  8. We have temporarily delayed the Movecube. We have so much stuff. Some people say bring everything you can some people say bring hardly anything and sell it. Selling is a struggle and Facebook marketplace/ Vinted/ eBay is a nightmare!

  9. So we finally arrive on 23rd August - just in time as we got the visa on 8th September. We'll be living with friends in Secret Harbour WA for a few weeks and then hopefully renting. We still havent got jobs as teachers but have had some interest. Still applying for our Teacher Registrations....this seems to be taking ages now so Im glad i did it fro the UK! Movecube leaving here in May, but may delay this to July when we finish in our Uk schools.  Starting to get exciting....

The visa will be activated when you enter the country, regardless of what you tick on the card.

Brill so be honest. It does have option a migrating permanently to Australia then b visitor or temporary entrant with how long I intend to stay.

  11. Ok so I’m currently writing this at 36,000 above Australia landing in 4 hours. We have been  given the cards to hand over when we arrive but unsure what to tick. We are here for 6 days but I want to activate the 189 visa…. What do I tick?!

  12. Evening

Looking at heading over now for Easter. A few complications - not with us as a family but we have had to delay. Saying that myself and my daughter are flying out to Melbourne tomorrow for a week (yes I know 😞 ) and just need to check the visa situation. With the 189 even if my wife and son are not coming we should be okay? Is there anything different they will do when we get there - even if they can see we are only there for 7 days? Is it worth printing the 189 visas just in case?

In addition to the above list you will also need a Tax File Number (TFN) to give to your employer, which is similar to the NI Number you have in the UK. I don't know which (if any) of these things you can apply for from abroad but I wouldn't sweat too much, it doesn't take that long to get them on arrival. Your teacher registration will take a bit longer depending on which state you want to work in, so it's worth looking into that in advance. It took me about 6 weeks to get registered in QLD, but that was back in 2011. I was also registered in NSW for a while although I've never taught there, and they had a completely different set of hoops to jump through. Below is a list of the teacher registration bodies for each state/territory, which I hope is helpful.

I will stick my neck out here and say you will have absolutely no problem finding a teaching job in any state at any time of the year, as there's a significant teacher shortage Australia-wide at the moment. You may well have to accept a contract first, but the conditions of employment and entitlements are usually the same as for permanent staff (except for the end date). If I was you I'd be a bit choosy and not jump at the first thing that's offered or you might find yourself in some hell-hole doing country service for 3 years, which is okay for the younger ones but probably not what you'd want to be doing with a young family.

    1. New South Wales (NSW):
    2. Victoria (VIC):
    3. Queensland (QLD):
    4. South Australia (SA):
    5. Western Australia (WA):
    6. Tasmania (TAS):
    7. Northern Territory (NT):
    8. Australian Capital Territory (ACT):

Signing up to WA. Is it provisional I'm after?! I'm sure it is!

Whats next Rob?  Do you have a timeline for the big move?

We were looking at Christmas, however we are almost certainly having to delay till sometime next year - Im now hoping Easter. Sadly itll probably be a bad time to get a full time job but im sure we can both get some relief work. I just need to get registered now. What else can I do now with this Visa whilst being over here in the Uk? Can i get a bank account? Sign up for medicare??

  16. Wow I havent looked at this thread since we got the news. What a day from utmost joy and crying with happiness to absolute rock bottom. I'm not going to say much, but take life every day as you can and appreciate what you have today as you never know what is around the corner. Life is too short to be having silly arguments on a forum, as someone said words by themselves on here can be misinterpreted. Just be nice.. x

You're ahead of me, I had delays. I got the invite in May but didn't submit until late June. Then unfortunately I couldn't get my health assessments done and updated to the immi website until 3rd August. I'm still checking every day, I don't have a case officer or any movement since the 3rd. I've heard they've slowed down the processing of newer applications and are working on clearing the backlog of applications from last year. I'm just hoping I might have the grant by Christmas.

Everything crossed for you! I'm so hoping before Christmas. I think we'll call it mid-September if nothing is received - and delay until further down the line in 2024.

Sadly if they don't get your documents/assessments when they ask for them, they put your application aside and get to work on other applications instead, so it will likely be a long wait before they get back to it.

It was a simple upload - which hadn't been uploaded - yes my mistake but so annoying as it's a very very simple one that could have been rectified in seconds.

Unfortunately you’ve just gotta wait, frustrating I know.

When you looking at coming out and we’re too?

Was January time but I cant see it happening now till later on. It's scary how I'm literally waiting for them to look at a birth certificate for less than 5 seconds and it should be granted! 😞
