Sorry to hear that Sarz I've got a direct grant 179 days since lodgement. Are you going to appeal?
Congratulations to you Martina, our 189 application is still up.
So hopeful there.
Our agent did appeal. But they said they that there are enough English language teachers already,

I couldn't find any states for secondary teachers that were overly positive. The NSW condition was that you've already worked in NSW for a year. No use to man nor beast really. When I last looked at Vic it was specifying subjects for secondary and Primary teachers had to be specialist in a language... such as mandarin and Chinese for example. Again, for UK folk that's no use either.
Dean, I agree.
Try for 491 our agent advised us to go for ACT as they may be open in January via the Matrix and are taking overseas applications. Vic was our only true hope.
For NSW secondary teachers is in low category. Unless you want to go out to the remote Bush.
QLD is closed. WA & NT are not open for overseas applicants

Under certain conditions some states/territories will accept applications for some skilled occupations that they have not currently listed as 'open'. It is a matter of doing the homework.
I haven't been misinformed.
As an agent you should not quote incorrect info, The system is hard enough and super expensive for hopefuls like us to be sent on wild goose chase.

Which other states are open?

Why did it get rejected?
They have enough English language teachers apparently.

Update on our application. 190 visa sponsorship form Victoria got rejected.
So disheartening. Vic is the only state open for Secondary school teachers.
-
An update guys, our 190 Visa sportsmanship request form Vic got rejected.

Chances with 80 points for a 189 are very, very slim.
491 would be your best bet if you qualify.
This is very discouraging. its seems the 75 is the new 65.

Yes.

I just contacted AITSL. We only need 1 year experience in NSW. I have a positive skill assessment for my qualification. I need to assess my work experience which will cost 228$.
Hey Pam,
Did you get an invite?
-
Hi All,
Did anyone get the invited this August round ?
-
Hi Pam,
Our agent told us that a Minimum 24 months paid employment work experience is required for NSW and to claim points you will need to have AITSL assess not just your work claim but also your education.
Fortunately NSW is only open to Match or Science stream so good for you.Hope this helps.
-
Fair enough!
I will direct this to our agent. The Work Ex is in the same field of teaching.
I appreciate you guidance, though. Very kind of you!
5 minutes ago, wrussell said:I do not offer opinions about cases I have not fully assessed. If your agent is a registered migration agent you should probably accept the advice.
NOTES
Only post-qualification work experience is counted. Presumably your first degree did not qualify you.
If you completed post-qualification work experience for which the first 4 ANZSCO digits were not the same as those of your nominated occupation, such work experience would not be counted as 'closely related' for points.

Except for deeming dates, the opinions of skills assessing authorities about work experience points are only advisory. Have you taken professional advice about this?
Our agent said we can only apply for points as per our AITSL Assessment or this ma be considered as fraud on our part.
Masters completed in 2013 (AITSL recognised work ex from here) but teaching primary and secondary since 2010.
May I ask what is your opinion as an agent?
-
-
Oh right. Didn't think of that as an issue, Presumed that you had work ex as you are teaching already.
My teaching experience was cut to 5 year by AITSL, and I have been teaching since 2010 so lost points there.
Btw, VIT registration came through today. Now registered as provisional teacher with VIC.
Hopefully this will help our case.
Good luck to you!
Keep posting, good to hear fellow teacher's journey through this long process. -

Hey Pam,
You have the same points as us, just a different state, we chose VIC.
Just and FY our agent told us that for non pro-rata the invite times for 70/75(state) is now around 5-6 months.
So for you, it should be closer, hang in there and good luck!We have applied for VIT registration last month and have been told that its a 6wk process.

Yes it is a costly exercise but we all do it because we have a desire to go live somewhere beautiful so should not look at the money side of things( but do agree, it stings ). We submitted our EOI in Jan and got our invite in middle Feb, NSW 190 for 232112 and visa application approved by mid March. However, it seems since the elections the waiting times to get either contact form a case office or a direct grant has doubled so most can now expect to wait around 6 - 8 months for contact from a CO.
Hi John,
It sure stings with Agent fees, medicals, Police checks, AITSL Assesment and VIT registration(in our case)English language tests and fees to visa applications.
Totally agree with you though we do this to find a better life.
Many congratulations to you for a successful application as well. If you don't mind sharing, What were your points, please?
Thanks for sharing your experience. It will be helpful to others looking for guidance in your field.

Hi Sarz
I submitted my 190 visa application for SA at the end of April this year with 65points as a metal fabricator.
Didnt use an agent just used the help of the good people of this forum.
Decided to go with 190 visa as I missed out on the full 20points of IELTS twice by 0.5 of a mark.
It took me 4weeks to receive an invite off SA around the end of Feb but I think SA are a lot quicker than VIC.
Not in a major rush and hoping to move next summer.
Mark
That's Awesome Mark. My congratulations!
I didn't know SA was quicker.
And thanks for sharing your experience. It will be helpful for others looking for some guidance in your field

Hi All,
Starting this topic so all of us Non Pro-Rata crew can get together and share our experiences. It seems like the Pro-rate nonsense is hogging up all the invites and the rest of us are getting sidetracked. We applied through an agent, Upped the points in June and applied again for
ANZCO: 241411
Occupation: Secondary Shcool Teacher
- 70 + 5(State) points for 190 Visa - We opted for VIC
- 70 for 189 Visa
For 190 Visa we had to be registered with VIT (VIC institute of teaching) on top of AITSL assessment which is very costly, not to mention multiple ILTES & PTE test in the effort of improving scores. This is proving to be a very expensive exercise.
Hopefully, it's all worth it at the end with our move to Melbourne.
Keen to know your experience, please share.

I can understand. I hope we had a clue about this. We could have saved the last VIT registration fee.
