  1. Hi there,

    This is my current situation:

So I applied for my citizenship January 2019 when I was 17. I had to pay for my first year fees upfront.

My application was approved in November 2019. I'm still waiting for my ceremony date.

It has now been three months since my approval date and I'm still waiting. The census date is on the 31st of March.

Last week Thursday (13 February) I posted my invoices alongside the urgent ceremony request form to the address specified on the form (in Sydney).

I am still waiting for some form of response from the department.

I live in Geelong,  Vic btw.

Do you guys have any suggestions of what I should do as I'm starting to panic!

Please note: I have read other forums on here of students who managed to get into urgent ceremony's in tim for them to apply for the HECS loan so I know it is possible. I just need guidance in the right way to go about it.

    Thanks!

    Hi Indianinoz,

Have just included my signature with timeline.

I applied for citizenship in April last year and it is quite disappointing that I haven't received anything back from them yet.

    Hi there,

So sorry too hear about your situation.

I applied for my citizenship in January 2019 when I was 17 and my application was approved in November 2019. I'm still waiting for my ceremony.

My father applied for his citizenship at the end of November/ start of December 2019. Got an invitation to interview and sit the test in December. He sat his test in January 2020 and he was approved the same day. Now he's waiting for his ceremony.

    Hi ikgc

I don't think the procedure is any different in VIC to QLD.

I had my citizenship test in November. When I initially tried to apply for the early ceremony, they told me that I had to wait until I had confirmation of enrolment for Semester 1, 2014.

I finally got hold of that info yesterday and I emailed it to the Ceremony team and they have just responded this morning to say that I will have my ceremony in the first week of March and that I'll get a letter with all the info in February.

At least for the QLD Ceremony team, it took them less than 24 hours to respond every time I have emailed them.

I have had to send them:

    - Completed urgent ceremony application form

    - A copy of my confirmation of enrolment for Semester 1, 2014.

    - A copy of my invoice for fees for Semester 1, 2014.

I hope that helps (if you have had any trouble organising your early ceremony, as I may have mis-read your post). Best of luck getting it sorted if you haven't yet, and if you have, congrats and hope the ceremony goes well/went well for you.

    Hi there,

I know I'm posting in this thread many years after it was active, but I'm hoping you guys can still respond.

  4. Hi guys. So I'm currently a recent year 12 graduate who will be starting uni this year. I am a permanent resident who has lived in Australia for over 4 years now and I am about to submit my Australian citizenship application.

As I am under 18 years, I do not have to sit the test or interview. Does this mean my application may be processed quite quickly?

I am hoping to have my citizenship before my uni fees are due (on 12 March 2019) so that I may apply for the HECS-loan which is only available to Australian citizens.

Do you guys know how realistic it is that I will have my citizenship by then?
