  1. Well, I have been waiting for more than 18 months now, and every time I have called the department to ask about my application progress (mentioning I am well past the processing times), I’ve been given the generic answer « 10% of the applications are processed outside of the processing times so all you can do is wait ». Or in other words « we can’t be bothered looking into your file even though you’ve been waiting for ages, and we’ll just grant some other PRs, but not yours at the moment, don’t ask why ».

Today a nice operator actually looked into my file and told me they are « considering » (not sure what it means) my application at the moment and they can’t comment about why it is taking so long. Also, unless your waiting time is TWICE the maximum processing time, they can’t escalate the file to the processing team. So in the case of a DE application, unless you’ve been waiting 26 months without being contacted, all you can do is wait. Escalating it earlier than these 26 months would just result in the file being de-escalated because they have to follow the protocol.

I had never been given this figure before, so I’m just dropping this piece of info for those who have been waiting for a long time (and who have likely applied for one of these unwanted occupations). Looks like there actually IS a light at the end of the 26 months tunnel!

Bridging VISA is after you applied a new VISA (your old VISA is not expired at this moment),  before it is approved, your old VISA then goes expired, now you will be a bridge  VISA.

However for you, your first 457 VISA expired on 2017 March, and you did not apply any VISA until April  2018, how can you be on bridge VISA during that period?

I am confused, correct me if I am wrong.

457 visas usually are for a duration of 4 years

Edit: sorry he did mention his visa was for a duration of 18 months (which is weird, I’ve never heard of a 18 months 457)

I’ve been waiting from 04/04/17 also restaurant manager DE Sydney. Had my nomination approved 3 weeks ago, still waiting for the visa...

Did they ask for additional or updated documents before approving the nomination?

Almost 2 years to have the nomination approved, that’s so unfair.

Hold tight mate, your golden email will arrive soon!

I wonder if the department is sometimes processing newer applications first just to show-off good statistic and improvement on the general processing time.

Shamefully old application would then be processed behind in the queue and at such a pace than less than 10% of them are finalised each month, keeping the processing time stats down for the 90% application processed figure.

    Just my imagination...

It might be your imagination but it actually does make a lot of sense when I think about it this way...

    Hi all!

my MA finally send an email to immigration last week as I have passed the 18 months. However we got kind of a standard reply, but want to share it anyway.

Processing time are an indication of how long it takes to process 75% of applications and 90%. Individually cases might vary because of:

    - TRT vs. DE

    - Occupation ( If its on the Medium term list or not)

    - Company Size and turnover

I dont think everyone is on the spreadsheet, including myself, but I have not seen any Restaurant Managers Approved that applied for a 186 DE after me. Only TRT or DE in another occupation. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks for the info, we both are in a very similar situation so I’ll keep watching how your situation is evolving 😉

    Hi,

Just joined because i need to do something. We applied back in March 2017! It's been 23 months and no idea why it's taking so long. Don't feel i can trust my agent and not sure what to do?

Almost 2 years and no news whatsoever, I feel you mate... the way they are processing applications makes no sense at all - some Restaurant manager members who applied 1 year after you got their PR granted last week. Same occupation, same stream and same country risk. But PR in less than a year. I’m happy for them but it’s unbelievable how some other applicants can be left aside. It really is a game of luck - the luck of having one’s application assigned quickly and the luck of having a CO that doesn’t request too much extra documentation.

It looks like they are now processing some restaurant managers applications (finally), stay put, hopefully you’ll hear from them soon.

    occupation: Restaurant Manager(NSW)

    Nomination & Visaa applied: 17thFeb2018

    Nomination approved: 19th december 2018

January 15th 2019, i was too worried that y nothing’s coming, so i asked my MA to send a email regarding my APC and Medical is expiring soon so either give decision or extend my Apc & Med and  luckily after 3 days a case officer replied and said they will open my file before my Apc & Medical expires and if not just send them an reminder, so finally

    **no documents asked**

i know how it feels, this waiting game, uncertainty but guys b strong just dont give up.  wish u guys get what u guys worked hard for and best wishes to u all.

**my suggestions for future applicants use a good MA and also do ur own research before u apply.**

(plz ignore for any sentence mistakes)

    Congratulations mate!!!

    Was it TRT application?

Did your MA have a direct contact to IMMI or did they just send a general enquiry?

Hi @Charly, It's too late now you applied in September 17, did you MA contact IMMI?

Contacting IMMI is of no use. Even though I am now past processing times, the only answer you get is « 10% of the applications take longer than the suggested processing times. We cannot track your application, all you can do is keep waiting »...

It was refused because there was no updates in the documents provided.  As the application was submitted over 2 years prior the documents were out of date, and IMMI do not have to request for information now they can straight out refuse.  So She has appealed.

I reckon that’s a really bad move from the immigration, I don’t recall seeing anywhere on their website that documents for the nomination expire after 2 years. What occupation did she apply for?

    Welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately the occupation "Restaurant Manager" is seen as high risk. Due to this it seems to have a higher processing time than other occupations. This is manly due to this occupation being taken advantage of with many fraudulent nominations. You only have to look a few pages back to see what I'm talking about. I wouldn't worry to much about that as its out of your control.

Calling IMMI will not help I'm afraid. You will just get generic response - please wait.

In terms of previous posters having more luck contacting IMMI - i believe that is just coincidence. I don't believe them calling actually had any effect in their application being processed quicker - its just luck that their application was allocated after they called. Those that answer the calls are not case officers, just customer service advisers.

Unfortunately there is not much you can do but sit tight and wait - many of this forum will be in your situation so we are all in it together.

    Good Luck 🍀

Thanks a lot for making all of this clear, this helps a lot :)

All the best for all of you guys!

  12. Hi guys,

I've been a silent reader for a while.
    Here's my situation:
    Restaurant manager
    186 DE
    State VIC
Nomination and visa application submitted September 2017
    LR Country
    IMMI Status: Received

I have been waiting for 15 months and I guess you can understand how confuse I am when I see so many granted visas from January, February or even March 2018.
It looks like Restaurant managers applications are indeed left aside.

Anyway, since the last update, I am now out of the time frame. I have called the immigration but got given a very generic answer: "10% of the applications are actually processed outside of the time frame. We cannot track the application status for you, so all you can do is wait".
I have read in previous posts that other applicants have been luckier than me when reaching out to Immi (nomination has been granted shortly after they called). So what kind of information can you ask for or give in order to get the process sped up when you are outside of the time frame?

    Cheers!
