  1. Late reply,  But my boy flew from manchester with emirates, all organised by Tim Finlay https://www.timfinlaypetservices.com/

i highly recommend Tim, my move was not straight forward and he was fantastic to deal with.

  2. I collected my cat from quarantine almost two weeks ago. Strange question, but has any elses cat come out of there smelling like they have been in a cow shed? He was clean but by gosh did he pong (and he still does have a lingering cowshed odour 😅🤔)

  3. I am using Tim Finlay in Manchester to fly my dog home. He’s much bigger than yours though so the price won’t be much help! As mentined above the rabies vaccine needs to be done 7mths before you fly...people say 6months,  but its 180 from when the blood is drawn and you need the vaccine done at least 3weeks prior to this. I’d add in extra buffer too just in case...my boy needed 4 rabies vaccinations which put a significant spanner in the works 😞

  4. Be aware that dogs can also fail to reach their rabies titre levels after the first vaccination. My boy required 4 vaccinations which put a huge delay in the process. I have been dealing with Tim Finlay in Manchester for my boy’s transport to Australia and he has been absolutely brilliant.

  5. Best. News. Ever 🎉  Cooper finally passed!!! We switched from Nobivac to the Rabisin vaccine and he reported a level of 2.62 after failing to reach 0.50 with 3 nobivac vaccines. I’m not saying the choice of vaccine is to blame, but if your dog has other risk factors that may lead to low titre levels (over 5yrs of age for first rabies vaccination, large dog, pure breed), then i would have a serious discussion with your vet about the brand of vaccine they use as there is evidence that Rabisin has a higher initial success rate and also higher titre levels. If only i’d know that back in Dec when this all started...

    • Congratulations 2
  6. Later this year i will need to transfer a large sum of money from my house sale to my Australian account. I’m familiar with money corp/transferwise etc so that isn’t an issue. My issue is that my bank (which is in the Republic of Ireland, not the UK,  but hoping others may have come up against a similair issue) only lets you transfer a max of €10,000 a day (and thats €5000 done online and another €5000 if you call them). I’ll have multiples of that to transfer. Has anyone come up against this before and how did you manage it? Obviosuly i’d prefer to transfer it all in one go both for convienence and to avail of a hopefully better exchange rate for transfer a large amount at once.

  7. I’ve been dealing with Tim Finlayson pet service who is based in Manchester and he has been incredibly helpful and understanding. I don’t know if he’d also organise to fly your dog from LHR which is what you’d have to do do avoid flying through Dubai but it would certainly be worth asking.

  8. More devastating news...Cooper has failed his 3rd rabies test with a level of 0.49.  I am absolutly gutted to say the least.

For anyone considering moving to Australia with your dog, please start the process of vaccination at least 12months before in case your dog needs more than 1 vaccination. Two vaccinations normally gets them over the line, apparently failing three is incredibly rare 😢😢 (so much so that the vaccination company has offered to pay for the next vaccination and testing)

Our Movecube is being delivered back to us tomorrow. It left the UK on 21 January. No problems in Australia but my husband had to pay customs duty on his new set of golf clubs. It will be nice to see some familiar things but we didn't ship any furniture.

How much was the customs? Is it just 10% gst?

That's a large size movecube, which is about two thirds the size of our box room upstairs which was where we started setting things aside a few months ago.

The bed frame on the right is uk super king size, would have left it there as a marker if it wasn't for the possibility of it falling on a child emoji86.png

Thanks! I won’t have many boxes but i do have my superking bed & mattress plus a large corner lounge suite which thankfully divides into three pieces. Hopefully the large move cube is ok 🤞

  11. It’s likely i’ll have some space in my movecube when i ship. I will also be building a house in Australia. Just wondering if something like the oven i want is significantly cheaper to purchase in the UK, what additional charges would i be levied with when it arrived in Australia...would it just be the GST or are there others fees/charges payable on new items as well?

  12. Completly devistated - just had word back from my vets that Cooper has not passed his second vaccination 😢😢😢 his level now is 0.44. I’m completly screwed as i have flights booked for Aug and now he can’t come until mid Oct at the earliest. I really wish i had been aware prior to starting the vaccination process that this could happen.

Does anyone know if the vets can administer a double dose of vaccination? I feel that his first level must have been so low and he’s a big dog (50kg) that this should have been considered.

  13. I found this on the dept of agriculture website. Can anyone tell me from their experience if these are the inital costs...

    - import permit application $120

    - assessment of permit application $360

and then when i book their space
    PEQ charge $1200
In-office inspection (Cats against permit conditions) $60
In-office inspection (Veterinary health check). $60
Husbandry daily fee (10 days x two cats) $290

So just over $2000 to be paid to book in?

  14. Hi,

Could someone let me know what & how much the initial fees are that I have to pay for the import permit and quarantine  booking? Getting (slowly) closer...my boy is going back for his second rabies blood test this week after needing a second shot because his  levels weren't high enough 😞

    Thanks 🙂

  15. Has anyone’s dog failed their rabies test after being vaccinated? Just got the results back from the vets and Cooper hasn’t passed his 😫 apparently big dogs, male dogs and dogs under 12mths are most likely to fail and Cooper fits 2/3 of these (big & male). Fortunatly i have enough time (just!) to get him redone, wait 3 weeks to re-test and then start the 180 day countdown for our planned export date.

  16. With the Christmas tree (artifical) out at the moment and thinking of putting it away, are there any xmas decorations that i should not pack away now...saves having to go through the containers when its actually time to pack. I have some little pine cone decorations - are they ok? Any others i should be aware of?
