No problem, we just decided to do it that way, and now on 4th Dec it will be 3 months since visa lodgement. Hoping to hear back from a CO to do medicals and police checks. The advice to us was that the year of entry is based on date of medial or police checks we wanted that to be the longest possible date. Anyway hey hoh we wait again ...

Lucky you! When do you move ? Good luck

    Good luck!

Thanks, we move Jan 3rd so it's real now

Hi I’m on 10 weeks now since 190 Victoria visa lodgement and no CO contact as yet. Submitted form 80’s but decided to wait before doing HC and PC.

When were you contacted by CO ?

Have you got your visa granted yet?

    Good luck

    Hi,

I submitted everything and had a direct grant after just over 3 months. I used an agent and just got a phonecall to say it was granted.

Sorry I can't offer any info about requests for HC or PC.

    Hi

I have just submitted my application to the AASW for an assessment for migration and employment purposes. It should reach them on the 6th Nov so in time for 15th Nov cut off!

Does anybody know the average time frame for knowing the outcome?

Also if it is a positive outcome, next steps and time frames! I understand that the next step would be to complete expression of interest, although unclear on timeframes for this being considered and next steps!

    Any guidance would be great!

    Hi,

I don't know if this will be much help because my assessment was submitted prior to the cut off dates being introduced. The AASW took about 28/29 weeks to get back to me. I then submitted an application in May of this year for 190 and was invited to apply just around 4 weeks later. And then had my visa granted in September. Sorry for the vague answer re: dates but everything has moved so fast lately.

I had 65 points plus an additional 5 for the 190 sponsorship which is why I chose that route.

If you have the opportunity to gain points for your English ability take it.

Best of luck with your application,

    Dai.

  4. Hi,

We front loaded as we had to get a police check from Korea that our agent hadn't done before. When that check came back very quickly we were advised to do the rest as our date for entry would be 12 months from the Korean check. Anyway our grant came through just over 3 months from the application so it wasn't too bad for us.

I guess it's your choice to front load or not and I wouldn't want to tell you what to do but I was happy to share our experience.

We have had two quotes for a 20ft container to ourselves which will fit 2 bed frames, lots of chest of drawers, all crockery, clothes, 1 adult bike (hard to spec new one) 3 sofas, 4 bedside tables, ikea kids storage units plus drawers, bookshelf, dining table, chair, a doll's house, rocking horse, all the children's books and toys, washer and drier, ironing board...bedding, towels, saucepans, toiletries, weights equipment, tools, Sonos speakers, 2 50" tvs, saxophone, keyboard etc you get the idea! emoji106.png
2 days packing and loading (done by them) shipping to Perth and unpacking to each room. One was £3900, other £4500.
We need to ship asap so that the stuff gets there for Jan as we have an airbnb for a month when we arrive in Dec. Otherwise it wouldn't be worth it as we'd have to buy all stuff there....

Both agents came to out house and assessed, they were really helpful and Saif which items would be allowed ect eg no raffia or seagrass rug.
The house sure is going to be empty when the stuff has gone! Very pleased.with both agents,. Just got to compare what we get for the money to make sure they offer the same!

Wow that's a decent amount of furniture to move. We don't have any where near as much and like for like replacements are coming out at a similar price to shipping for us. We are now just looking at ways to get all of the souvenirs and gifts that mean something over there safely. Practice packing is happening soon lol

  6. I like the idea of a test shop. We have been thinking of a move cube as we haven't bought expensive furniture having been planning to emigrate for a number of years.

A general observation - take as much of your existing belongings as you can.   I know the shipping sounds expensive, but replacing everything can be worse.  It's not just the cost of replacement, it's the effort and time.  You've got a lot on your plate when arriving in Australia, and it's another big stress to kit out an entire house from scratch. If your furniture isn't worth bringing, then at least invest in a Movecube or two, and bring all the small stuff.

Because we don't normally have to buy those things all at once, we don't realise how much they add up to.  It's a worthwhile exercise to get online and do a test shop.  If you're happy with cheap stuff, you can try kmart.com.au.   If you want quality things that will last, try myer.com.au  and petersofkensington.com.au.  Remember you'll need towels, bedding, pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, Tupperware, cleaning stuff (mop, broom, dustpan...), bathroom stuff, and then there's all the small electrical goods like vacuum cleaner, hairdryer, toaster, kettle....you'll be amazed how many hundreds of pounds you have sitting in your cupboards!

What complicates it further is that you're in a strange country where you don't know where any of the shops are.  If you're not in a major city, then you'll have a long trek to even get to shops which sell furniture and household items.

If you're undecided about your furniture, do a test shop online, preferably with a company that exists where you're going (for instance, there's no point checking IKEA if you're in country NSW, because they won't deliver).

  7. Hi All,

Apologies if this has been covered already. Are there any items that people have got to Australia and wish they had brought with them? Or items people are planning to take that they think are a good idea? We have realised we should take an extension lead with a number of British sockets on for our appliances. Starting to think about packing and shipping next month so any pearls of wisdom would be great.

    Thanks in advance

Please update this post when you hear something (and pls share your timeline). Good luck to everyone! ?

I will, I can't quite remember my timeline but I started the skills assessment in September 2017, I received a positive assessment approximately the end of March, invite to apply in May and then submitted my application on the 7th of June.

  9. Hi,

Apologies if this has been covered but how long have people found that they have waited for contact from a CO after lodging their application? From what I have been able to find, admittedly from only a few examples, it appears to be approximately 3 months. If anyone is willing to share their experiences that would be great.

    Thanks.

  10. Has anyone had experience of obtaining a police check from Korea? Having lived there prior to getting married my wife's check has been returned in her maiden name and the embassy are refusing to put both surnames on the check. DIBP want the checks to be in the application name though.

Our emigration agent has advised we submit a signed covering letter explaining the situation, with old visa and passport info attached.

We are worried that we have now got this far and this could be a massive hurdle.

    Any help is appreciated.
