For immigration to Australia, Engineer and mechanic are quite different occupations.

From what you have posted, it looks as if you do not qualify for the mandatory,  positive pre-migration assessment as a mechanic.

From what you have posted , you are unlikely to be exempted.   If you are not, EA might ask you to sit, but immigration would pocket your fee and refuse a visa.

    Hey thanks for the reply,

I have a bachelors in aerospace engineering and a diploma in light vehicle maintenance and repair principles I also hold a MOT license.

I feel as for the skills assessment, engineering would be a better option to apply for a visa with?

    So an engineering technologist?

Hiya, please refer to comments below:

    1. From how you described your background, it seems that you fit the requirements for English exemption. However, you might still want to do the test anyway more for points purposes.

    2. It all depends on your points. It would be premature to finalise the visa type you'll be applying for. Best to decide on this once you've got your skills assessment outcome.

    3. More details need to be discussed on this topic

    4. It really depends on you. It can definitely be done on your own but be prepared to dedicate the time to do lots of research especially with the policies and procedures being extra fickle these days, you have to ensure the info you gather is the most updated one. However, if it suits your budget, you can also opt to engage an agent for the convenience and peace of mind. the best way to search is via https://www.mara.gov.au/ to make sure you're dealing with a registered agent. Be mindful that there are a number in the UK who offer such assistance and will charge you over £2,000 and they are actually not qualified, meaning have not done further studies in the Australian migration law and practice as well as no access to a professional library of immigration legislation.

    5. Not really, no particular format. If in doubt, the UK format that you would use is good enough.

On a different note, I can't help but ask about your employment in Germany. I've lived over there for over 2 years and I'm always fascinated to come across people who live there as well. Kannst du Deutsch sprachen? :)

    All the best!

    Hey thanks for the reply,

    1. I will take the English test to gain the points on the assessment in this case

    2. Skills assessment to be done after the english IELTS test is completed

    3. I will go as an engineering technologist as I also hold a qualification in the automotive field

    4. Thanks for the weblink and tip on this!

Ich spreche ein bisschen Deutsch :)

  3. Hi all,

I'm in very early stages of applying for a Visa for Australia. I'm 25 years old, I hold a degree in Aerospace Engineering Technology with 2 years work experience working with an Airbus supplier in Germany.  I also hold IMI level 3 in Automotive Maintenance & Repair with 2 years experience in the automotive industry in UK. I also hold a MOT testing license.

I moved to UK in 2002. I took primary, secondary and tertiary education in the UK and would like to know if I need to take an English IELTS test?

The  Engineers Australia Migration Skills Assessment booklet states: https://www.engineersaustralia.org.au/sites/default/files/2017-11/MSA Booklet August 2017 - PTE updates.pdf

The following applicants may be exempt from the requirement to provide an English language test:

    • Applicants who have completed an Australian undergraduate engineering qualification

    • Applicants who are native English speakers. A native English speaker is a person who lived and was educated (primary, secondary and tertiary education) in the country where the official language is English: Australia, New Zealand, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Canada

    Questions:

    1. Do I need to take an English IELTS test and if so what band score should I aim for?

    2. Would I be better by applying for a Skilled Independent Visa (189)?

    3. Which field of work has a better chance of me obtaining a visa either engineering or automotive?

    4. Should I go through a UK agency to aid me with skills assessment / visa application or is this a process which can be done without an agency?

    5. Is there any specific CV layout in Australia which I should be aware of?

These are the questions I have currently any help appreciated..

    Thanks,

    Saif
