Happy to announce that my nomination was approved day before yesterday. However the CO requested for police checks from another country which expired last month and medical checkups to be done. Need 3 weeks to get police check. Just done medical son Bupa.
At least it is not received anymore. Hopefully the golden email will follow soon.
Congratulations Eddy101 !
Hope to see more approval for Uni lecturer

Hi chilli888 and Eddy101 - I am also a lecturer at a Queensland University who has been sponsored for 186 and is caught in the delay mostly because my university said to not submit my application until their nomination was approved. - Their nomination was approved last Dec and my application is still received after 8 months
Can I ask you both if you are in permanent positions at your universities?
Hi RMF,
I was suggested by HR to apply for visa as earliest after nomination was made. I agree with Eddy101 that most university jobs are not permanent except for teaching focused only. It looks like you are a way before us. I hope you get visa soon. Cheers!

I see thanks for the information. Yes I did not submit mine as well. Do you have a MA in your University? I did everything myself and do not have a HR contact person.
Hi Eddy101,
Do you belong to university in Queensland ? I am a university lecturer applied similar time as you. I think academics do not need skill application. My Uni did nomination ( I am not sure if they use MA or HR did by themself) but I did visa application myself.

I did not, as I applied via the TRT stream. Though, possibly researchers are exempted from it, not sure.
Yeah, Lecturers ( holding academic appointment of at least A level) are exempted from Skill assessment.

My uni will not nominate you for the 186 visa unless you have a three-years contract.
You are right. Most of the Uni (at least where I belong to) nominate someone for 186 visa if they have 3 year contract. However, most Uni positions are opened for fixed term of 1 year unless you or your supervisor has grants for at least 3 years.

Employers have to express intention to sponsor for 2 years, but dont have to obligation to do that. What is CO expectation to see this intention? Does the employment contract have to be signed for a definite period of 2 years?
I agree. I am not exactly sure however from this forum I learned that employer should provide assurance ( could be in document form) to the immigration that the position will remain for at least next two years after visa grant.

Yes I hope this is the case. The norm at my uni is one year contracts.
Hi ,
Same here. Usually , uni contract is for one year unless you have your own grants. I guess the 2 year contract rule are mostly to small business.

Hi ,
I am not sure if your Uni does visa processing for you. Usually, they do nomination part and visa processing should be done by applicants. It is always best to be ready with all docs required for the application ( for example, English tests, police reports, and other .....). Once they apply your nomination, you can apply for visa.
I hope this helps.
Cheers,
