  1. Hi Nando

I am a QS working in Perth atm. I was working for a contractor in the UK but for a PQS firm here. It's slightly different, a contractors QS is a contracts administrator here so you would probably be ok to apply..

There are a few jobs advertised but it's quite tough at the moment as a lot of people are out of work. Infrastructure is starting to boom with a lot of rail and road projects due to start over the next couple of years. Apparently UK experience is favourable. $70-$80k isn't a bad starting salary.. good luck

  2. We've recently moved to Perth from the UK in June. We have a 2 year old and love it here. There's so many family friendly events organised on the weekends, the weather is great and we're outdoors all the time. People have been so welcoming and we've fitted straight in. The commute to the CBD isn't too painful (I'm in Aubin Grove and it takes 45mins including the nursery drop off/pick up) and things are starting to pick up work wise

A colleague of mine lived in Melbourne, had a little boy and moved to Perth and he said he much prefers it as it's geared towards families whereas Melbourne seemed to suit young professionals - I haven't lived there so I can't comment!

If you have any questions feel free to msg me, moving and trying to make the 'right' decision is so daunting 😊

  3. I had chicken pox vaccine organised privately before we left but not hep B. I can't see nhs doing hep B but maybe private would? It hasn't caused any issues though thankfully and no out of pocket expenses

  4. NOR is definitely more popular and comes with a larger price tag.. My colleague is actually moving from secret harbour to go NOR, not because he prefers it but he finds there's more going on and ends up travelling that way in weekends anyway. I haven't found that (not yet anyway!)

It depends on what you want I guess.. Suburbs further inland are better value but not sure if you wanted to be on the coast..

Maybe start looking at seek.com.au at jobs you might be able to do and where they're located which could help narrow it down?

Good luck, it's a big decision so definitely worth taking a drive around 😊

  5. Hi, I haven't been to Secret Harbour but a colleague lives there and said its a nice area and I've seen others comment it's good for families.. Apparently Baldivis is also good for families and similar location, but there are also some not so nice areas very close by

I don't think there would be many IT jobs locally, you would probably have to commute to the CBD. Unless there is something in Kwinana or Henderson as they have engineering companies that might need IT specialists 🤷‍♀️

We are in Aubin Grove, arrived about 8 weeks ago and love it so far. Have a 2 year old and joined some playgroups. Everyone seems really friendly.

If you'd like anymore info, send me a Pm and I'll help however I can 😊

  6. That's great thank you, panic over. We were advised the childcare subsidy can take up to 12 weeks but if we keep receipts we'll be refunded which is good as its so expensive! Just had a worry that we wouldn't be able to get into a routine with work/ nursery for a few months until we had fully caught up. Think she needs the extra stimulation and play with the other kids! (and I need 5 mins adult conversation 😂

  7. Hi all

We've recently arrived in Australia and have been hitting the ground running. My husband had work anyway and I've just been offered a job starting end of July. My concern is getting my daughter vaccinated so she can start nursery. It seems she's missing 3x hepatitis B vaccine and I've been googling and apparently dose 1 and 3 need to be 4 months apart - is this correct? How did people manage enrolling children to schools and nurseries etc, was this an issue?

    Thanks

    Vicky

  8. Hi Lynn

I can't offer much advice as I've never been to the Central Coast but it is also on my radar as an option if Perth doesn't work out..

When I was researching Avoca beach came up as a nice place.. And Gosford not so nice - hopefully people who have been there can offer more places

Can you do a trip over and have a drive around first to see where you like? Would you go as far up as Newcastle which also looks very nice?

  9. Hi all

Does anyone know if the quarantine centre charge for changing dates after booking a dog in? I'm 95% sure the dates will be fine but there's a small chance they could change slightly. I don't want to hold off booking as want to secure his place and flight etc. I don't mind paying a small fee just like to know in advance 😊

  10. Hi Kim,

I'm a contract administrator too! Try speaking to hays global as they have contacts in offices across Australia. We're going to Perth and she did advise that Melbourne and Sydney would be her recommended destinations as there's loads of work there, but we didn't discuss Brisbane.

Keep an eye on the seek website and LinkedIn - I've started building contacts up ready 👍

    Good luck!

  11. Hi Sarah

We are hoping to head out a similar time, also to Perth as its seems a great place to raise a family!

I don't have any great advice as we're at a similar stage but we've decided to open a hsbc account so we can transfer money when the exchange rate is good, and starting to clear the house now as we have accumulated so much stuff!

Great question by the way, and love the suggestion about eye tests, I didnt think of that! X

  12. Thanks for updating us.. I'm still waiting for our final grant but having a worry as I didn't realise I had a conviction for fare evasion, due to expire this month. It was a shock when I had the police check back!

I've written a statement as well and provided the subject access disclosure so hoping they won't consider me a threat 🤞

  13. If you get pregnant before the medical you can put your visa on hold and add them to the same visa, if you get pregnant after visa grant and decide to have the baby in the UK you would have to apply for a separate child visa.

You have to activate the 189 visa within a year of it being granted (I think) and before your PCC and medicals expire so our first PCC was 30th Nov so we're aiming to at least visit Oz before then

Hope that makes sense! It's all so complicated!!
