Yes you do steps 1 and 2, then you can AHPRA anytime you like before you come out.

Step 3 is apply for Modified ANMAC skills assessment (not full assessment)
Prior to step 4 and 5.

Google "NCNZ internationally qualified nurses" and you will find all the guidelines and application forms on there. You can start to gather your documents listed while you wait for your English exam. Fb group uk registered nurses seeking Ahpra and Anmac (or something like that) is the only place I have found with lots of info on Nz route. Though here is much better for general migration help and support.

Critereon 3 states BA or higher?

Yes I can see that however many social workers with old DIPSW qualifications have had positive assessment results for migration purposes but not necessarily been accepted for AASW membership. You can still work as a social worker without membership however you cannot call yourself one and the role is called community worker instead.

When I was a nurse, many, many moons ago, I did the diploma course. I had the choice to do the dissertation module (within so many years of qualifying) to top up my nursing diploma to a nursing degree. Might this be an option?

Also, I'm sure there was a thread somewhere about diploma nurses being able to bypass this degree hurdle by going through Tas?/NZ? Or somewhere like that.

This is exactly what my community nursing degree course does, top up my diploma.

thanks I will look for that thread.

If you read your link about social workers. It confirms my point above.

my public health degree upgrades my diploma to a degree.

    Precisely!

My husband has looked into it and he can have his skills assessed with a diploma. Social workers don't need degrees if they have enough experience. He's now on a social work forum and on there there's other people who don't have degrees who have been successful. His experience will give him 10 points. Social work is not a registered profession in Australia and therefore a degree is not essential as per AASW.

  6. Hi

    can anyone help?

my husband is a social worker and is 39 in January.

Currently would get 25 points for age.

He needs to do an English test and a AASW skills assessment before applying for the 189 visa.

If he turns 40 before he is invited to apply will his points change? Does he need to stay in that bracket throughout the whole process?

  7. Hi

I am a nurse and my husband a social worker. None of us have degree qualifications, only diplomas. We have done study since and achieved additional qualifications. My husband has 15 years full time experience in his line of work. However I only have 7 years which has mainly been part time. I am due to finish the specialist community public nurse degree in August 2018.

I am unsure whether we are actually eligible for visas or not? It seems absolutely crazy if we aren't as we have a lot to offer in terms of our job roles.

    Can anyone help please?

    regards

  8. Can I ask do you have to take an English test  if you can prove your secondary education was in English?

I read this on one of the websites. I am getting  so confused with everything, I'm not sure now.

Do people take the tests just to gain points or is it a necessity to register as a nurse in Australia?
