  1. Thank you for the reply! I have talked it over with the OH and now that we have begun the process, we are looking into visiting melbourne in April 2018 but it will be without the kids as they dont know yet (didnt want to get their hopes up if it didnt work out!) Are you living in Aus then? Thank you for your words x
  2. Hi, i dont suppose anyone can offer advice on whether controlled Hypothyroidism will be a problem in passing the medical?? Thanks in advance xx Thanks, Emma x
  3. Wow that sounds great! What an amazing life he has! I can only hope my boys can be as confident as him when they get older and take risks and just live life to the full xx Thanks, Emma x
  4. That's great to hear! That is what i hope to find with mine x Thanks, Emma x
  5. Thank you everyone! Even though there has been some negative feeback, i do feel more confident in our decision to go! I mean, it doesnt have to be forever does it?! What does it matter if in 5 years time we still havent settled or feel like its not for us? We can just come back, but at least we would have had an awesome adventure! Plus, that pit in our stomachs will have gone and we will forever know we tried and it didnt work. Or we may be the opposite and create more opportunities for the kids and settle amazingly! Yeah the kids may grow up and venture off into other parts of the world etc etc.... but to be honest, although i would be devastated at that prospect, i would be increadibly proud of them for being brave enough to take that plunge! (Plus it would mean more holidays for us as we get older haha) xx Thanks, Emma x
  6. Yeah i feel exactly the same! I just feel more alive haha xx Thanks, Emma x
  7. Thank you for the good luck wishes! [emoji4] Although he is qualified as a teacher with the 4 years, he doesnt want to pursue that anymore. We are both willing to work in any job whike still applying for other work anyway. Were not shy of putting in the graft. In regards to myself, i am an honorary student but looking to go into something with the police as im in the crim and forensic route and leaving my options open for further study once in Oz too. Yeah we are in talks with his school regarding his GCSEs as we woukd prefer him to get them just in case xx Thanks, Emma x
  8. That isnt by any means the only reason we want to move, but having nice weather does make me feel happier. The choice of being able to go on a walk without wellies more often etc... might seem trivial to some but it will make a huge difference to us x Thanks, Emma x
  9. Hahaha yeah luckily i have been doing that! And its crazy seeing the price differences in just a few years! But, i do like watching it incase theres something i havent thought of asking or doing etc xx Thanks, Emma x
  10. Oh, p.s. our main thought is that we are not minted over here and even if we get to Oz and have similar financial circumstances, id rather it be somewhere with a blue sky and fantastic scenery in a ever so slightly warmer climate than overlooking a house that looks identical to mine with pouring rain and a dull sky 90% of the year xx Thanks, Emma x
  11. First of all, thank you so much for all of the replies, good and bad too! I appreciate them all. I think maybe my late night post needed to be more clear on reasons etc. So apologies! We are both early thirties with three boys, 13, 9 and 6. Myself and OH have done research for well over a year together (myself longer as its me whos spurred the idea on) i dont watch any aussie soaps (or TV in general actually) yes ive watched the odd Wanted down under, but it was just to get a more realistic view of the day to day living costs and the areas in the background [emoji23][emoji23]. We dont expect it to be better than the UK at all, infact i presume it is going to be quite similar weather wise, but the fact the sky will be bluer most days of the year and the fact we will have 3/4 months nicer weather as opposed to a couple of weeks (spread out over the "summer") will be amazing for us as our boys are very outdoorsy (if thats even a word [emoji23]) We expect to word hard and we are not going in with any "well back in the UK" attitude as we are looking forward to embracing the Aussie lifestyle. Melbourne appeals to us because of the artsy scene. Geelong looks most appealing to suit our family at the moment. We dont expect a 5 bed house overlooking the beach with a pool at first, but we are hard working and that is going to be a goal in the future for sure. I mean, why not?? As for careers etc, OH is a newly qualified teacher, so not in a job that is going to have us feeling like theres been a huge wage cut etc. As for myself, i am currently a psychology student and will qualify just before we jet out (if plans go accordingly) so i will be looking to start on the first rung of the career ladder as we step foot there. Again, thanks ever so much for the feedback! Xx Thanks, Emma x
  12. I dont know if ive put this in the correct forum or not, but im getting a bit unnerved reading so many posts about poms moving back to the UK. We are in the early process of applying for permanent visas etc as some of you may be aware from previous posts on here. The OH and i feel silly enough that we have never visited Oz and yet feel like we belong there.... but doubt has set in over such a huge decision and when i come on here, all i see at the moment are poms desperately trying to get back home. So obviously my niggling doubt of uprooting our three sons is setting in and taking note of these posts. All friends and family are pro emigrate and we dont receive much help from family or friends here for us to miss it in Oz. All family and friends that matter are already making plans to visit anyway [emoji23] and we just feel a huge pull there (melbourne). Are we just completely mad and naive?? Xx Thanks, Emma x
  13. Omg this made me laugh haha. What on earth ?? it is quite true though.... xx Thanks, Emma x
  14. Yes i suppose you're right there! Thanks for the reply x Thanks, Emma x
  15. Awwww i am sorry to hear that... i dobt think it matters what age you are, do any of you get invokved in any activities to meet new people?? Have neither of you made work friends? can i ask you if that has stopped you from enjoying it? Or do you still feel you made the best move? Thanks, Emma x
  16. That is so lovely to hear!! It must have been so worrying for you but all worth it now of course [emoji4] thank you for the reply xx Thanks, Emma x
  17. Hi Peter, thats great to hear that peopke have been friendly and helpful [emoji4] Can i ask, did you visit Geelong or Australia in general before moving there?? Did you struggle to find work? I will probably have mounds of questions haha. You will be sorry of the offer [emoji39] Oh, and the offer of being our tour guide is so lovely! Thank you! My partner and i are hoping to visit around April time without the children, so pricing uo flights and accommodation etc in preparation!! So meeting uo for a tour would be fantastic if thats ok? [emoji4] Thanks, Emma x
  18. Haha thanks for your reply, i am a friendly person but probably a bit of a knob too [emoji23][emoji23] but yeah, i totally get what you mean and thats great! I definitely will not be going around saying anything of the sort so that reassuring haha. Thanks for giving me food for thought, we do have a few very good forever friends in the UK, and altho some are from 10/15 years ago, we have made a couple of friends that we can add to that category from our move to the other side of the uk a few years ago. So i will stay hopeful that we will find some good friends. I guess my biggest concern was whether we would fit in. Thanks again xx Sent from my SM-G935F using PomsinOz mobile app
  19. Hi, thanks for your respons. Research is most definitely something i do on a regular basis, i dont think you can ever do too much of it haha. Its nice to hear that most people are welcoming of newcomers! And i will also be actively seeking out ways to help out with school activities too. We are looking at moving to an area near Geelong as opposed to right on the CBD's doorstep as i think it will suit our family a bit better. Sent from my SM-G935F using PomsinOz mobile app
  20. Thanks for the reply [emoji16] One thing that I'm definitely glad of, is having school aged children! We won't kniw a soul in Aus, so its nice to know that friendships are not going to be based solely on where i am from. Thanks again xx Sent from my SM-G935F using PomsinOz mobile app
  21. Thanks so much for your reply! Yes thats exactly how we have been thinking of being if, (hopefully when) we arrive. Just completely allowing ourselves to dive into the Aussie culture 150% because why else would we be making the move right?? Were choosing to leave the UK for a reason [emoji16] haha. I too am not a fan of football/soccer although the OH is a huge fan of all sports, as our our three sons! The OH has been watching a lot of Aussie rules and loves it and we hope to get involved actively if we manage the move. To be honest with you, i was hoping that i could get involved with school activities etc to be able to meet other mums, so kniwing that it works is a great! Thanks again for the feedback xx Sent from my SM-G935F using PomsinOz mobile app
  22. I hope i can [emoji23]. As long as i dont see them running all over the place 24/7 i should be ok i think.... hopefully haha Sent from my SM-G935F using PomsinOz mobile app
  23. Thats great to hear! Really glad you settled in so well, gives me hope that we will too [emoji5] were just a really laid back easy going family that loves a good laugh and to be surrounded by beautiful scenery! Fingers crossed the visas get accepted xx Sent from my SM-G935F using PomsinOz mobile app
