I’ve also used Moneycorp recently and found it to be a good service. Speaking to someone rather than doing it online is reassuring considering the large sums being transferred. I was even able to negotiate the rate slightly upwards by quoting a competitors rate [emoji3]

We are just looking for registration with VIT to fullfill the requirements by VIC gov. So how long did it take you to get through VIT. 
We submitted the application a month ago. 

We have gone through registration with VIT however that was via mutual recognition. The full registration process was done for Queensland which took roughly 3 months, which I think most states work towards for overseas qualifications.

If it was the Down Under exhibition you went to in Esher, then we attended that too. I believe the pet shipping company there was Fetch a Pet. They were helpful but we are currently going through the process with Petair. Their Gold service deals with absolutely everything for you.

We’re using Air BnB on arrival for 2 months, to give us time to find a suitable rental. We do have 2 cats following after us though, and would’ve done 1 month if not for them [emoji250]

It is expensive though (is there any other option?), and one good bit of advice is to make sure the owner is happy for you to use their address for mail initially since we’d be setting up Medicare etc..

We’re using John Mason who will store the items at the destination until a delivery address is advised (for a fee of course)

I’d imagine most major shippers would have similar facilities. Some offer free storage at origin or destination as part of the quote.

There’s a useful to do list pinned under the Household section. It’s a few years old but should still be relevant.

Currently to pass the skills assessment you need to have 4 years of tertiary level education, including at least 1 year dedicated to teaching.

Most people from the U.K. will have a 3 year bachelors and 1 year PGCE. For the early years visa, the age range of the qualification should be within 0-8, and there must be at least 45 days of supervised teaching practice carried out, with evidence to support this.

I’d advise further investigation though as some types of qualifications are not accepted.

We will be in Australia for 4 years on my partner's TSS 482 visa from June and my question is around me and my background.
I don't have to work and the plan is for me not to really but I do have a 1st class BA (Hons) Primary Education Degree from the UK and I have taught in Primary schools for 3 years but in the lower end of the school i.e. 4/5 year olds. It would be a shame not to offer Australia something while I am here. My interest is in Early childhood education so would I be able to use my existing degree and potentially work whilst there or would I have to complete a course in Australia such as a TAFE course to be more relevant? I am very happy to do that if that's the case.
I would also be interested in being an Education Aide, would my degree and experience be useful?

Hi all, can someone please clarify what do they mean supervised teaching practice? Do they mean the number of days in placement or the times you have been observed? Has anyone had their skills assessed for Early Childhood Teacher with EYTS (Early Years Teachers status)?

I went last year, and whilst I got the same feeling about it as the posts above, I did go knowing this and didn’t have high expectations.

I was however surprised how small the expo was, but even so found it interesting. A pet shipping company had a stand with example shipping crates and were useful in answering all our questions.

One of the recruiters advice was to go onto google and search for my job role in the city I was interested in! Basically stating the obvious, putting no effort into it, but then again he did have a long line of people to get through.... other recruiters took my details but never contacted me.

There was some useful information overall, but I wouldn’t return. If you have a free afternoon and go into it open minded then why not...

We are both secondary school teachers. Well I was before we had kids but I am hoping to return to it in a couple of years. 

For working in childcare as an educator, the assessing authority is ACECQA (AITSL assess teachers)

At a glance, your edexcel qualification is listed as a diploma level equivalent which means you’d be able to work as an early childhood educator.

I can’t give any advice on using these qualifications for visa purposes as I’m not familiar with the skilled lists, but do bear in mind that a teacher and educator are two different professions.

On the visa front you’d need to check if either of you are eligible. Consulting a good Mara agent will give you a good indication if you’d be successful and what your options are.

I’d say look into visas first before researching jobs and places to live as that’s all irrelevant until you have a route into the country.

This forum is extremely knowledgable and browsing some of the recent threads will give you some insight into a range of topics.

She carried out PGCE in primary 3-7 years. But it was part time over a year. So she has done 3 years full time and 1 year part time at uni. Has more than enough observed teaching hours in her training ?  It's the uni time that's concerning her, it's not 4 years full time 

Hi thanks for the reply. She has enough points for the visa it was more for the aitslthat she needed. She did not want to put in for it if she was going to get knocked back because of the the study time. 

As said, if you own your home there are council rates like there are in the UK. Renting, no. Ours are $2,100 pa.
