  1. Hi We moved to Hervey Bay just 3 weeks ago from the UK. We are loving it here, the beach, the laid back but welcoming attitudes and yes, the fishing! We were very fortunate that my husband got a job as an Engineer in nearby Maryborough before we came out. "Have you got a job" seems to be one of the first questions most people ask. It's always good to at least try and make contacts before you come out, it could be risky to not have anything lined up. There is loads of choice with schools from state schools to catholic to Lutheran and Anglican. We visited 9 schools in our first week here and have enrolled our boys. They had their first day today and loved it. They are 6 and 9. Good luck, don't let the dream go if it's what you want!
  2. Hi, I had to have a medical for my 457 visa but only because I have epilepsy. It included a chest x ray, blood test for aids, TB check and a gp examination (pushing, pulling and prodding various bits). I had to supply a letter from my gp regarding my epilepsy. My husband didn't require a medical, even though he was the main applicant as he doesn't have any health issues.
  3. Hey Sparnell My family and I moved to Hervey Bay 3 weeks ago, I was looking for advice on the 457 visa and driving and saw your post! We've come from Nottingham in the UK and I can encourage you that it's absolutely lovely here. We have been really busy setting up schools, looking at areas to live, sorting rental accommodation, bank accounts, tax file numbers... the list goes on. If I can be of any help please let me know. Still lots for us to learn too! Hope your move goes really well. Sonya
