  1. WRUSSEL thank you for that link that is shocking comission percentages. Could anyone recommend an agent I could have a phone consultation with? It makes sense to pay a bit of money to get anothers perspective on the whole thing. Thanks
  2. Thanks to you both. Are there any migration consultants that offer free phone conaultations or if not what is the average cost? Thanks
  3. Sorry I should have been more clear. I have not hired a migration agent. The guy recruiting for the TAFE is a registered migration agent so we have spoken breifly on the phone and via email.
  4. I am aware I have to study a cricos certified course and at least 2 years study etc. I am working with a migration agent to make sure I tick all my boxes but I have also taken others advice on this forum to research the whole process myself as well. I just wanted some advice from someone other than the agent. Is getting all 8's a realistic goal for someone without a college degree or am I dreaming?
  5. Yes I have researched the Australian study requirement. In regards to what do you mean?
  6. I am in need of some advice. I have a choice between 2 TAFE locations. One is in northern NSW and the other in Queensland. They both offer carpentry but the one in queensland seems a lot better because it actually provides the vocational placement needed and in NSW I would have to find it myself. Only problem is the only way I can get 60 points in Queensland is if I score an 8 on all sections of the IELTS. If I study in northern NSW I get an extra 5 points for regional area so I can get over 60 points with a 7 on IELTS. I am a native English speaker but I would say my English is not superior by any means. I would have more than 2 years to prepare. I have searched through a lot of prior posts and I just need some advice. Is it really that difficult to score an 8 if I devote an hour a day for the 2 years I am studying and do all the test preperations? Alot have said it is easy but I was forewarned by the migration agent not to count on IELTS. I am planning to do the post graduate 485 visa and he told me if I cannot get the points if I can find a sponsor I would not need 60 points for PR? Doesn't make sense to me. Also I have heard it is very hard to get sponsored in the construction industry. Thanks
  7. Yes but the whole point of the work ready program is you do not need to find a sponsor am I wrong? After you graduate you work. And then get a skills assesment...no need to be sponsored or at least thats how it was explained to me by the agent??? I really appreciate your imput as I am really on the fence and trying to get as much info as possible. Thanks
  8. Thanks for your response Dom. So in your opinion if you work hard l, dott your i's and cross your t's it is a pretty solid program? Did you find it a challenge to find part time work while going to school??? Did you end up getting sponsored? Thanks bro
  9. Thank you for taking the time to reply. I was wondering if they were on commission....allthough I am pretty sure they will not take carpenter off the list but I guess you never really know...
  10. Hey nice to meet everyone and great forum. I have been searching a lot here and finding some great info. I am a crane operator by trade that already used up my working holiday visa and I am now 33 years old. It is my dream to one day have a life in Australia. I have been talking to an agent from Pathway to Aus by email and phone for the past year about studying a trade in Australia and then progressing to PR. He has been very helpful and given me lots of info and almost makes the whole process sound too easy which I assume it is not. I am planning on studying carpentry on the Gold Coast. I have a lot of experience in commercial construction already and a pretty good grasp of how things work on site. I have read a lot of negative views about taking this route and most people advise to get your trade first and then go to Australia. I wish crane op was on the list but I do like carpentry so I am thinking to give it a shot. I would like to hear from anyone that has succesfully completed the Job ready program or any advice in general would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
  11. Hey Dom I know this is kind of an old thread but I hope you are still around. How did the whole thing turn out for you? I am looking at also studying carpentry at tafe and doing the work ready program. Getting some information from someone that has first hand experience would really be helpfull. Were you able to get your PR? Still working in Australia? Any advice? Cheers
