  1. I thought it was just a case of leaving the country and re enter through immigration my wife was pricing day return flights to Bali does, it sounds as if that is no good.

I think the grant has to be issued whilst you're abroad. You notify them of your travel plans and should be outside for 5 working days so the grant can be issued.

Anecdotally people say the grant letter comes the same day as they leave but there is a risk it won't.

  2. Hi cannonhillchris!! I pop onto this forum sporadically from time to time! Same as you I was so anxious waiting for my visa to come through once I had submitted it! Fortunately I'm with my boyfriend in the uk so I don't feel your pain of missing anyone! Unfortunately I am one of those annoying applicants that got granted within 3 and half months last year, and we are moving in 12 days time to start our new life in oz!

once my granted application came through I didn't believe it so I phoned the commission to see if it was legitimate I was actually granted a visa! On the phone I got through to a lovely lady who explained to me that it was all processed so quickly as i had served with the British armed forces and therefore already had extensive checks had me done on me to actually serve so they took that into account. Her conclusion to me was because I had been DV cleared it sped up the process quite rapidly!! Even though I left three years previous it still counted! So I am presuming this would be the same for police and government workers etc!

I have all my hopes for you that your visa will be granted soon and wishing you a smooth transition to oz!!

    Thanks, DV clearance makes sense.

I had hoped being a solicitor, with enhanced DBS and being on the public roll would help with the good character part... but then again, maybe not.

  3. Hi all,

I was just on our immi account and want to know if everyone else has this message

    [h=3]View application status

    [/h]app?cacheKey=e14446fb&wc_static=%2fimages%2fsmall%2fImportantInfo16.png

    Important information

This application will be eligible for consideration for permanent residence 2 years from lodgement (commencement date).

This application has been received by the department and has been placed in a queue. Partner category visa applications are processed in the order of the date on which the application was received (lodgement date). Individual processing times will vary depending on a range of factors.

When they say placed in a queue, do they mean in date order?

Can't see the images but that message has been there as long as I can remember.

  4. The following post is intended to be light heartedly funny rather than deeply bitter and sarcastic.

Hi guys, great news. Got the golden email today for my husband. At last.

    I applied 《insert date 7 weeks after you》

I forgot to include any passport numbers and so got an email asking for these from the case officer 2 weeks later

It turned out my husbands passport was expired so we were asked to renew it. 8 weeks layer that came. They then asked my husband to provide a police check. We uploaded that in two weeks. He was then asked to provide a statement about his time in prison which was uploaded a month later after he forgot to sign the first one. They also asked me to resubmit the 888 forms as they weren't completed by Australians. We did that too.

CO asked we do our medicals two weeks ago. He went 3 days ago and we got the grant today.

Good luck everyone. Just be patient.

Look. I know it'll all work out and how lucky I am. I'm missing my wife. Been separated since 04th Jan. Flying out on 04th of March to visit her. A grant before then would save me so much hassle.

Got it set up so that I wouldn't need to come back if the grant came.

  5. I'm still feeling guilty that we got such a super fast grant and others other waiting. I don't understand it at all. I saw your comment about advising someone to make a mistake/leave something off their application so they get contact.....

this is almost what happened with us. Applied; all fine, then we did medical, and realised we had made a mistake, so uploaded document to rectify and then we had contact requesting something else we forgot and the police check, uploaded the requested info and had a grant a week later!! All in under 3 months....

You shouldn't feel guilty... well maybe just a little bit.

"I'd almost be tempted to advise someone to leave off a key document to generate an early request.

Common theme of people applying after but getting the grant before. CO requested documents early.

Squeeky wheel getting the grease principle"

It seems the way of it. I suspect software / case management jumps files to the top of the pile and CO's just grant whilst they're looking at it.

It creates some sense that you get punished for trying to do the right thing and diligently completing the application as thoroughly as possible.

  6. Well, you shouldn't need to come back to UK after 3 months. Don't those visas last for a year in 3 month blocks, so you could fly to Bari/NZ then fly back again? There's another bloke on here who does that. The call centre recommended to me that I apply for the e600 tourist visa that lasts 12 months with no need to fly offshore. It's more pricey tho, about £180 I think. She also told me you can fly on ETA and apply for e600 onshore too.

They supposedly do. However I was warned by someone who did that on the second re-entry he was held at the airport. Questioned and told that he was abusing his visa and was only just let back into australia.

Thanks for the tip. Just had a minor wobble of confidence.
