  1. Kodi app sorted and Exodus working, thanks so much guys!
  2. Thanks so much to everyone! We have 7 open bottles and 3 unopened -none of which are particularly rare - so we're going to drink what we can and gift what we can't. Thanks again, this forum is gold
  3. We have about 10 bottles of opened and unopened whisky to ship in our cubes, but a few folk have said the tax will be too high to make it worth it. Buying new over there seems extortionare though. Anyone got any advice?
  4. Thanks so much for all your help folks!
  5. Hello! Im looking to find a way primarily to access UK catch up TV websites like BBC iPlayer and wondered if anyone can recommend a good and cost effective VPN to use? thanks so much
  6. Thanks so much VERYSTORMY, that's really helpful.
  7. Hello! Has anyone had experience of getting hire purchase on a new car when they arrived with a 457 visa? I have an employment contract in place, as well as a bank account...I just don't want to spend all of my savings up front on a new car as I'm going to need to buy furniture etc. I can imagine lenders won't look favourably on this with no credit history in the country. Thanks in advance for any any advice on car loans and also how to actually buy a car. I'm a loan female and a tad concerned the dealers see me coming...
  8. Thanks so much TheVixenator, have been onto their website and they seem really impressive Good luck with your own move!!!
  9. Aw Cal thank you!!! I defo will now...it's my best friend
  10. Hello! I'm emigrating in February (me, myself and I) but as I'm renting out my flat fully furnished when I leave, I'm taking out a relatively small amount of belongings. This will primarily include clothes, shoes and bags (!!) but also some personal effects like bedding, cushions, ornaments that mean something to me, some mugs, a printer, pictures and throws. Things that will help make my new home feel like home, but nothing particularly practical! On saying that, I'm also seriously considering taking my cordless dyson since I can just use a plug adapter!!! (though people may have advice on that too!) What would be your advice on the route to take for shipping such a small amount of stuff? I won't have an address to ship it out to immediately, so it will likely go up to my Mums, which means I'll have to pack it myself so wont need that service from a company. I'm based in Scotland, so any experiences would be much appreciated Claire
  11. Hi folks My vet recommended Pet Air and Pet Travel Services for shipping my wee exotic shorthair cat over to Adelaide when I emigrate in February. As the latter is in Scotland, where I currently live, I was hoping to use them, but has anyone had any experience of them? Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom Claire
  12. Thank you so so much for sharing your experience, it helps eradicate the fear for sure that 'what if' question is exactly what's driving me...better an 'oops' than a 'what if' always. I definitely like small - Glasgow is about the same size. - and I get the feeling there's a snobbery about Adelaide from folk in Sydney and Melbourne, but both of those just felt too big, like London. I can always visit at weekends
  13. I'm overwhelmed by how lovely everyone is being! Thank you so much. I'll be up at Mawson Lakes so thinking CBD might be best bet to start with, but hoping to get a flatshare reasonably quickly so I'm not solo living for too long in a new place
  14. Thank you so much gbye grey sky. It's such an overwhelming thought leaving my home and life in Glasgow, but it's the career opportunity of a lifetime and I'm glad that this will hopefully mean one less hurdle to worry about I'm nervous about finding a place to live so I'll def drop you a message if that's ok what a friendly forum!
  15. thank you so much for this advice! Because I was in the process of getting a divorce, we've never lived together, so de facto is nigh on impossible. We're absolutely devastated, but it's just not going to be be possible to get a visa together I don't think.
  16. Thanks so much JockinTas (fellow Scot?) definitely will do
  17. Oh thank you Bungo...do you fly him/her from the UK? It's a Persian/shorthair mix called exotic shorthair. Will likely follow this up in the pet forum as not sure of etiquette quite yet
  18. Thank you so much for the welcome guys, and the much appreciated advice! The job offer has just literally come through renegotiated with the conditions I was looking for - it's an amazing career opportunity at one of the universities in Adelaide, who are bound by many policies and conditions that i think would make it tricky to end my visa as its a permanent role. I have a call with their immigration officer next week to discuss options but I gather they'll want me on a 457 for speed. So between posting my initial intro at 1am ish uk time, and this reply at 3am ish, I've had an email that has cemented my decision - it looks like I'm moving to Australia! Ive been to Adelaide twice for a conference, and really enjoyed it, though I realise holidaying/business is much different to living. I've travelled to Australia 6 times now and have to say I found it to be the most 'liveable' in my eyes, though I have a lot to learn about the city and Australian life. I'm hoping to get involved in the forum a lot more in the run up to the big move though . I'm at a stage in life where I believe this type of leap of faith is possible, and I'm the sort of person that will make the most of the opportunity, no matter what. My current employer has been brilliant, and if it really doesn't work out, I'll need to pay back the relocation costs involved in the package, but I'll likely be able to get a job back home. I'll keep my flat here and rent it out so I have a wee nest egg, and I know a few people through work networks who will hopefully be able to help me find my feet in Adelaide. My partner doesn't think he can come over, but he knows this is too good an opportunity to pass up, esp after the renegotiated contract. My gorgeous wee cat won't be able to come as he's a breed that would be put in danger flying, but he'll stay with my mum so he'll be well looked after. I dont doubt this is the hardest, most overwhelming and painful thing I'll ever do, but we only get one life on this earth, and I'm determined to make it count. Glasgow will always have my heart, but Adelaide is offering me a career opportunity of a lifetime. Time to be brave.
  19. Hello! I'm currently contemplating a move from Glasgow to Adelaide after a job offer presented itself. The conundrum I'm facing is that my current employer has offered me a pay Rise/new job to stay! I absolutely love Glasgow, have a lovely wee flat and an adorable cat. But the adventure that a new job in Adelaide would bring is also tempting. I'm 32 and have a (relatively new) partner, but he likely won't come as his profession doesn't transfer (Gas Engineer) and I don't think he could get on my 457 visa. I have t accepted the job yet as I'm still negotiating, but I'm in such a quandary about whether to go for it. I have so many questions so hopefully engaging in this forum will help me get to a decision, before I blink and all offers are gone as I've taken so bloody long!!! ?
