  1. I am in the same position. Born in the U.K. & are returning to live there indefinitely after 8 years here. Have continued to pay National Insurance contributions the whole time we have been here. I will be 16 weeks pregnant when we return. I called a couple of GP surgeries & was told I would need to provide proof of permanent address, e.g utility bill before I could register. Didn't care that I was pregnant & need monitoring as developed pre eclampsia in my last pregnancy. We have a holiday rental booked for a month when we return & will be looking for a long-term rental. I panicked a bit & emailed another surgery explaining my situation. I got a reply saying I can attend the surgery & use our temporary rental address in the short term, so we'll see how that goes.... In the meantime I have found a private scanning place & booked a scan for some peace of mind before I get into the NHS system. I have had a look at the habitual residency test & it seems we need to prove we intend to remain there but it's a bit wooly on how to do that initially. Good luck!
  2. I hope your online update has worked - if not, my story may offer you some reassurance. This was a few years ago while backpacking. I had obtained an Aus visa & then decided shortly before leaving the UK to get a new passport as mine only had a few months left on it. Not realising the visa was electronically linked to the passport I arrived in Aus only to be told I didn't have a visa. Once it had dawned on me what had happened I explained it to the immigration officials & It was all sorted. I probably spent about an hour in a back room of Sydney airport & my friends had no idea what was going on but all was well in the end. Not an ideal situation but you have a valid visa so hopefully all will be well. Good luck. BTW I was travelling from Thailand, not direct from the UK & nothing showed up at any point until I set foot on Aussie soil. I was briefly threatened with being put back in the next plane to Thailand but luckily it never came to that!
  3. Hi Quoll, Yes we have Aus citizenships so our options are left open
  4. Hi, New member here. My husband & I moved here 8 years ago & had a baby 18 months ago. We have always thought that we would probably move back to the UK at some point & we feel that time has arrived - largely due to the distance from parents/grandparents but we also miss Europe & while we've had a great time here we're ready to leave. Our son is a British Citizen by decent & has a UK passport. We're just trying to think of things we need to do/who to notify prior to moving back or soon after arriving. We have kept up National Insurance payments while we've been here. Would our son automatically qualify for NHS treatment or do we need to register him? Are there any child benefits we would be eligible for? Thankfully we have kept UK bank accounts and credit cards active. Also, we own a house here - would be able to rent it out if we're non resident? Any advice gratefully received! Thanks
