    Hi All,

    Update from my side:

    Date Applied: 09/03/2018

    City/Council Area: Brisbane City

    Online/Paper: Online

Date received the acknowledgement email: 09/03/2018

IMMI Request for more info - 18/02/2019 (Asked for birth proof as my birth certificate doesnt have name, provided an option to submit high school certificate for Indian Nationals - It must have your name, DOB and name of at least one parent)- Submitted high school certificate the same day

Date of Citizenship appointment letter - 11/03/2019 (For test on 09/04/2019) - I changed it to 13/03/3019

    Date of Citizenship Test: 13/03/2019

    Date of Approval: 13/03/2019

    Date of Ceremony: Pending

After I completed my test, the officer told me that he ran a police check and its cleared so he should be able to approve today itself. It was approved 15 mins later. He said I will receive a letter of confirmation by mail and Brisbane City Council with send ceremony invitation by mail. So, if my address changes until then, I should inform the department.

Brisbane City Council typically shares ceremony dates and number of vacancies closer to the ceremony date and then IMMI sends them list of people who are in the queue. That's how they decide ceremony dates. Hope that helps.

congrats to you. However, there are many people applied before you and completed citizenship before you and they are still waiting on "Received" status (including me).

On one side congrats for you but on the other side its frustrating how Immi allocates applications without disclosing more unambiguous criteria to the public.

  3. r u so not ready for a test before you move?

I think your application is tied to the local council you chose, so as soon as you move you will need to inform immi and change the processing centre, interview as well the ceremony being held.

why dont you just call the department asap? you probably get the most accurate answer from them.

    Hi everyone,

I applied for citizenship back in June 2018 (Adelaide) and I received my appointment date today for 27th March.

There's one small problem. I'm moving to Tasmania on the 5th of March!  I could in theory fly back to Adelaide for the test but it would be expensive and inconvenient. Does anyone know if immigration can help me to reschedule the location? Should I just call the main contact number?

If anyone has any experience with this, I'd appreciate you sharing your thoughts!

    Thanks,
    Vish.

on the email you will find the reschedule link. everything DIY, you can even change it to the next day as soon as they have available time slot.

I received my email they arranged my interview in a month time and i changed it to within just 2 days. no point wasting extra one month for nothing. good luck to you.

You can state, it is a privilege, not a right, However! when people submit an application, they do so with a firm belief that the wait periods are accurate, it is not acceptable if a person lodges an application with a 11 month time scale then after 11 months it has increased to 22 months. every month it is increasing, you wouldn't see a bank saying it is ok, delay your repayments every month.

Totally agree with you. i applied at 12 (avg) -15 (max) months timeframe by then and now 22 months.

My wife applied on the 22nd December 17, test on the 22nd August 18 and now still waiting for an approval and really hoping it doesn't turn into a 12 month wait.

I applied 19th July and waiting... Based on my wifes experience not holding my breath until March next year for a test.

hi my friend, i applied Nov 2017 in brisbane. i didnt even have a computer test yet. so has to be very patient.

  7. The new residence requirements for in the Australian Citizenship Act 2007 mean that applicants will need:

    • four (4) years lawful residence in Australia immediately prior to making an application for Australian citizenship with at least 12 months as a permanent resident, and
    • absences from Australia of no more than 12 months in total in the four (4) years prior to application, and no more than ninety (90) days in the 12 month permanent residency period prior to application.

Permanent Residents - After 1 July 2007. If you obtain your permanent residence after 1 July 2007, you will need to meet the following requirements to become an Australian citizen: You have lived lawfully in Australia for at least 4 years; and. You have lived in Australia for at least 12 months as a permanent resident.

yes you are right, i just searched and the previous rule has been taken back.

    Hello everyone,

Can permanant resident apply citizenship still after 1 year later? I have been living in australia since 2009.

any information provided will be appreciated.

    Thanks

congras to u for granting PR.

The rule has changed since last year. no matter how many years u have stayed in Australia legally, it doesnt count.

Only AFTER your PR is granted, then from that day you need to be here for 4 years before you can apply citizenship.

  14. sorry to hear that, so you mean you company is US base but they have business here to get u and your colleague work here?

I can see why immi requires your company to have an office in Australia that your company could send u anytime anywhere in the world. that's what they worry your position when some industry is too "flexible" i think.

    Hello all,

My nomination got stuck in a bit weird issue. The company which I am working is well established business in US with more Than 6k employees worldwide. They are also registered in AU through ASIC and have ABN and ARBN.

Initially company got sponsorship as Overseas Business Sponsor which allows them to hire people on 457 visa but they can not sponsor 186.

Immi had asked my company to get Standard Business Sponsorship and then apply nomination to get my visa approved. My company is ready to apply for SBS but MA says that firstly my company has to open a local office and get ACN from ASIC then only SBS can be applied. Opening a new office here it's actually a big decision and also nature of our business is that we all employees work on client location so there is no local office requirement for us.

What I am understanding from Immi website for SBS my company need to show we are lawfully operating business in AU and have registered name through ASIC which we already have and as a overseas business ASIC had assigned us ARBN. ACN is just for local businesses.

Any comment on this issue will really useful. I am totally lost and now all the hopes are dying.
