  1. We have a migration agent who will be doing the paperwork for us - we just have to get the supporting info to go with the forms. Im no slouch in the brain dept either but my main concern was doing something wrong and wasting time in the application. So I prefer to let someone who is experienced in it deal with it...
  2. I thought i recognised them!!! I am a MASSIVE metal fan . I saw Parkway when they did their UK tour with Thy Art Is Murder. They were awesome. If you haven't checked out Thy Art you must!!! They are superb and from Sydney. Thats another thing the bf and I love about Aus the metal and rock scene is really good there. Its crap here. We dont even have a rock radio station worth a damn
  3. My Brisbane friends camp year round. And currently i am looking out at the pissing rain after 2 whole days of sunshine.... Deffo Aus for me. Thank you for your replies xx Yeah i dont like it when people moan here that its too hot. Summer is so fleeting here you need to enjoy it while you can!!!!. And it seems to me you acclimatise to the weather - my ex pat friends have. When my bf went over for his friends wedding it was August so their winter. He was cutting about Brisbane in shorts and they were all in jeans and jumpers lol!!
  4. That looks amazing and OMG who is the band you are watching?????
  5. Im not sure how long bf will hanker for a Harley for - I think I could persuade him with boats to lovely camping spots though I have a Ford in the UK and I am super hay with it hence choosing the Ranger for Aus. I am pretty keen to get my own circle of girlfriends away from bf mates partners - they are nice but I would rather choose and foster my own friendships. It sounds like such a lovely place to live... How did you break the news to family that you were going? xx
  6. OMG we want the Ford Ranger Wildtrack!! How do you get on with it? Do you like driving it? Ugh I will have to tell OH that we need a little boat - right now he wants a Harley. And dogs lolol. I love the sound of the lifestyle - Just being able to take the kids outside and play or go to the park or beach etc. So much better for them IMHO. I am a pretty friendly, chatty person so I think I will make friends and it is nice that there is such a community spirit there. We have a few friends out in Brissy already and other parts of Aus so they are already being super helpful offering for us to stay there till we sort a rental and also for us to ship stuff to them before we go etc. xx
  7. We have already decided what pickup we are getting (the important stuff lol) so we can fit all the camping gear into it. Im not really a pub/club person anymore, more a mates round and BBQ/dinner and so on. So the lifestyle suits me to the ground. Its great to hear positive stories from people - I hear if you dont really immerse yourself in the aussie life then it can be quite difficult. I dont watch TV/soaps etc so I wont be missing the East Enders/Corrie/Emmerdale etc etc. Netflix is enough for me if I really need an hours TV x
  8. The last line is what I am looking for - we want to start a family when we move and one of the main things is the ease of outdoor life and family things (camping, beaches etc etc) unfortunately the weather makes a lot of things so difficult to plan and do. I am excited... just got to break the news to family.. xx
  9. There are quite a few - we are using The Down Under Centre but a google will find ones that might be nearer to you/better suited. There is a part of the forum for migration and there are loads of agents listed there so have a nose x
  10. You need to contact a migration agent - I think there are plenty of suggestions on the forum of ones to use. You dont need a solicitor for it at all. Good luck x
  11. Hi Thanks for the reply! Yes it is daunting - mainly the paperwork that you need and especially since my OH is useless with paperwork lol! But we shall press on. How long have you been in Brisbane? Best/Worst things about it? And hardest thing about emigrating? xx
  12. Hi All!!My partner and I have started the process to emigrate from the UK to Brisbane. Looks to be a fairly long process with LOTS of paperwork needed! He is getting the Visa and I will be de facto spouse, since my specific legal qualifications arent recognised in Queensland we are shipping our furniture and also my 2 cats with us so any help/advice people have would be most welcome!!! In the meantime I shall have a nose round the other threads :)LL
