  1. Thanks I'm sure we will!
  2. Also we would not have to get a mortgage as we have the funds to just buy. Schooling payments are a bit of a pain but it is just something we have to accept we will need to pay for.
  3. Hi thanks for the advice. we aren't planning on staying at present so a lot of work and no guarantee we would get that visa. My course also starts in February so would not have enough time. i know it is a huge amount of money studying as an international but happy to do so. i had a quick look and although we could get enough points my hubby would have to sit the ielts exam. He has badly dyslexic and would have no chance of passing it. If we did decide to move permanently in the future we would have a much better chance with me having a career first. this way I can get my qualification and follow my career choice and get the experience of a life in aus. There are many places in the world we would love to live but until we are sure of where we will carry on this route. thanks again
  4. Thank you did you apply online or paper? I know it's changing in July. There will only be 2 visa subclass, no assessment level or svp. They will be assessing applications on risk of home country and university. Should be ok with Britain and monash uni. thanks for your help
  5. What I mean by investment isn't the property itself but the rental savings that is potentially a deposit for a house when they are older. I know it's not black and white and there will always be costs that can't be accounted for and it could cost us more in the long run. This is why chucking ideas around with others helps us out heaps as there are things you can't find out by googling lol
  6. So far I have coe oshc birth certificates for children (both our names on) my partners divorce decree defacto relationship- council tax bills and tax credits in both our names (last 5 years) car insurance and named driver, bank statements (seperate accounts but same address) finances evidence of communication with school for enrolement because I can't go any further with the application I can't see what else they require. Apart from medicals and maybe police checks was there anything else you had to supply? thanks
  7. Hi yeah that is correct about selling but this is something we are happy to do. As my partner is a joiner we would the ability to increase the value of a property and therefore cover the extra costs. Again, this is just ideas being thrown about.
  8. we are not intending to stay at present as we have too much back here in the UK. We have obviously discussed it though and if anything changes then we would probably look for sponsorship for my partner as he is a joiner. He currently has a business here and has worked out in Melbourne with a friend on a whv about 6 years ago. This is who he'll work with from feb.
  9. Thank youWhen you say we, how many of you? It will just be me and my daughter in education so maybe we will do ours before. Was there any evidence that I have not listed in my 1st question that you supplied? We have saved to cover the 1st 6 months at least because of the working rules. To be honest not working for 3 months will be quite nice..lol
  10. HiYeah have paid for the fist year and oshc. Got my COE and got an immi account. Is it quicker to apply online or is paper best. We have moved our oshc to 1st December and will extend it at the end for graduation.Just wondering if anyone had to do medicals and police checks for their visa as we can do this before to speed up the process. It gives a lot of info on the DIAC website but just wanted to hear others stories of what they had to do in order to get their visa granted
  11. Hi where re did you rent? And what visa were you on. Any advice or info would be great
  12. I am sorry I really didn't mean to be patronising. I was just making the point that from my experiences of renting, investing in a property is generally a more appealing option and that I am now in a position to do that. I understand there are huge expenses that come with but I like to see that my spending has something to show and will provide investments for my children later on. Anyway I am genuinely just trying to explore our options and discuss with others the options we have. Experience is a huge thing and as we have not done this before I was just seeking the experiences of others. I will definitely look into the rental and buying side more
  13. Hi thank you for all the info. my partner is allowed to work unlimited as I am doing a masters. We only have school fees for one child as the other is too young. We have also factored in childcare costs. I honestly have done a huge amount of research and feel that the opportunity outweighs the cost for the two years. might reconsider sending our stuff before our visa comes as there is still no replies in how long people have waited for their visas. I guess if we just have to buy a mattress each and a bbq we can cope til middle of January :smile::smile::ssign7::ssign7::ssign7::ssign7:
  14. I think if you owned a home the you may feel differently about paying rent to cover someone else's mortgage when you could be paying your own mortgage to secure property for you family. I spent 5 years as a single parent and the money on rent, although putting a roof over our head, is money I struggled to earn that has gone forever. Anyway everyone has different views on renting and buying and I understand both as been in both situations. We may still rent, I am really just asking for advice from people that have studied in Australia and for any info that would help us with our application and move.
  15. As someone mentioned earlier we have children to consider. the forward planning of shipping our stuff is so that when we arrive our stuff will arrive too. The cost of shipping is much cheaper than us buying everything when we arrive and there is very little property that comes furnished. We have also chosen a company that operates them self in Australia and does not use a third party. This means that storage is available and returning with them will be easy. We only need to provide our visa and paperwork when the container is due to arrive into the port. If we do not ship until after we have our visa then our stuff will not arrive until middle of January. As I have said before, we would like to get our child into a school before the holidays and to do this we need to secure a property, whether through rent or buy. I understand that for the sake of two years this plan seems very odd to a lot of you but as a 32 year old with two children, the normal student move is out the window. We have to think of our children, settling them in and making the move as smooth as possible. As for the course, there is a 1000 hours of clinical practice which allows students to practice anywhere in the world after completion of the course. In the UK there is only 700 hours which means if we want to move at a later date, even after experience, I would need to pay more money and do extra study. An example of this is the skills test for your country. This sort of test is everywhere including Europe. This would cost at least another £1000. at the moment we have no plans to stay as all our family and friends and partners self employed business is here in the UK. I can't say that this will not change and have read many stories about people falling in love with the place. We move around a lot and enjoy exploring new places, as do the kids so yes this is a pathway to something else. A career for myself in which I am desperate to pursue, experience for the children and an opportunity to explore another part of the world. As a pathway to austalia, which I am assuming is what you were implying, then no. also, stamp duty is pretty high here in Scotland. We have a house here which we will rent out for the two years. We are not planning on coming back to Scotland but will return to England where I am originally from.
