  1. really? sounds good, hopefully all this messing around with visas is worth it,we are in derby so its not as crazy as London but still has its issues, over here we seem to work hard just to pay bills, mortgage etc with hardly anything to do locally when we do get time off, gold coast has a few water parks, obv the beach and weather you can count on so it defo looks a better life,we have a few people dotted around Adelaide, nsw and queens too so itl be nice to catch up
  2. I'm going to call the tra in oz either late tonight or early in the morning to find out exactly what 'supervised' means, I'm wondering whether it means as a plumbers mate or just under a company as opposed to self employed, I just want a better work/home life balance and a better place to bring my son up to be honest,a beach,a couple of jet skis and a mx bike will do nicely too lol I hear people are a lot more laid back and friendly too amnd it seems the uk just has problem after problem
  3. ahh ok,thats not a bad shout, apparently you can do the white card assessment online whilst I the uk in order to get on site,iv done both domestic and commercial plumbing but moved over to british gas 3 years ago and its just service and repair on domestic boilers/systems now, what about you?
  4. weve been thinking the same thing, get the visas done and then pick exact location further down the line, I will be going with my girlfriend and 4 year old boy,im going to look at doing a 1 year sebatical with british gas just incase things don't work I can just come back to work,il probs tell bg that I'm only planning a year out so itl be a little white lie but I'm sure they wouldn't miss me too much, are ypu planning on doing anything gas wise or sticking to water mate?
  5. 10 months hard saving!! our first choice will be gold coast as I have a friend there in surfers paradise and there seems to be a great work/lifestyle balance but Brisbane would be our second choice,i suppose its going to be wherever the work is best to be honest, its only a 45 minute commute between the two anyway, coomera seems to be a hot choice for families, what about yourself?
  6. brill, thanks! we are hoping to take around the same, £30-40k but hopefully find work shortly after arriving,we are looking at mid next year to move
  7. all sounds good guys, il be putting in my application in the next few weeks, visa is £7700 and £2400 of that is the agent fees,i have contacted my previous employers from the past 10 years and all are ok to give refs, after digging I have found that vetassess will give me cert3 which will enable me to get a prov plumbing license when I get there, from what I can make out you only need the cert4 and 5 if you are planning to sub or go self employed, how much money are you guys planning on taking out? also where do I get the first aid course done? thanks
  8. Hi mike, another great input, thanks for the reply,I think I will go down the route of an agent purely for their experience on getting visas through and although I'm confident in my trade, when it comes to dealing with all the visa requests it'll only stress me out,how did you guys get on with IELTS? I hear it can be quite difficult, have you found work already Mike? if not what are your plans on arrival? hope You don't mind the questions thanks
  9. hi craig, thanks for the reply,i am currently doing my nvq3 with british gas as this is the requirement for all technical engineers working for them, previous to me working for bg I was a domestic/commercial plumber but did my gas 3 years ago,the migration agent has said that the level 3 is only required for the tra if going as a gas fitter, this is why I am going as a plumber as I will not have accrued 3 years exp from passing the nvq3 gas, am I right in saying then that if I arrive, I will need to contact relevant dept to gain temp licence and this will enable me to start work? also will I be able to apply for all jobs that ask for 'licenced plumber' id be interested to hear how your work life is going if poss, is it a requirement to do full license or is that just if you want to go self employed? sorry for all the questions but you sound like you've been through what I'm about to lol thanks pete
  10. hi bungo, thanks for the reply,i have friends in queensland so Brisbane/gold coast was he obvious choice although if I find that work is better elsewhere then I may rethink my plans, the skills assessment part just got me as there are small differences to the material we use ib the uk, thanks again
  11. Hi all, I am at the very starting point of the application process to move to oz (gold coast pref), I am a 31 year old british gas engineer planning on moving myself, partner and child over on a skilled 189 visa, I am actually using my plumbing quals /experience as opposed to going as gas fitter,we have chosen our migration agent (Taylor Hampton/emigrate to Australia) and I'm hoping some of you may be able to share your experiences, so my main questions/concerns are; *how taxing is the vetassess exam as the materiel I have been given doesn't really relate to the job plumbers in the uk perform ie,sheet metal fabrication/welding,septic tanks etc? *my quote in total for the whole application process is £7700-£8000,does this sound realistic compared to other applicants? *once I arrive in oz (hopefully mid 2017) how easy/hard will it be to find plumbing work in the current climate? *I also believe I will need to gain a license for my trade from the queensland trade dept, how straight forward is that process and will I need to work as a trainee for x amount of months? *we aim to take enough money to sustain for at least 6 months including buying a half decent car/rent/utilities/spends etc, realistic figures from you guys would be great,i would hope to have $60-80k, obviously itd be great to find work soon after arriving, *is it worth renewing expiring qualifications in the uk before we go ie,unvented hw systems, water regs etc I have obviously researched a lot before creating this thread but there is a lot of generics that come up and it seems the non generic answers confict, help from pomsinoz members would be great, thanks in advance pete:wink:
