  1. Hi guys, I have a potential job offer coming next week but they've asked for a UK police check dated after I left, so I can't use the one from ACRO I had done for the visa.

Has anyone else had to get another UK police check once they were in Aus? I've googled and not sure which one to use - ACRO says it's for immigration purposes only? Thanks.

I’m still in the uk but heading out next year, what are you missing about it
Here? Have you got family /friends?

I’m mainly missing my family, and my job. I’m a teacher and I miss the school so much. Even small things like my routines and swimming club etc. I’ve joined new clubs over here but it just doesn’t feel the same, like I’m forcing things that I know don’t feel right?

I hated it at first in Sydney but it was my dream to move to Aus so I figured it must just be the area I moved to and so left for QLD instead and loved it ever since! But everyone is different, my friend emigrated over and after a week felt she made a mistake and so went straight back to UK and never returned. Enjoy your time here while your here, you can always go back.

I lived in Sydney for two years before, then have just come back. I feel like I changed a lot in the time i was away and maybe now it’s not the right thing for me? Trying to ride it out and not make any rash decisions!

  3. Hey guys... am feeling very homesick at the moment and am just interested to see - did anyone move over here with residency, and then realise soon after that it was the wrong decision for them? I’m still settling back into life in Sydney but constantly missing home and regretting leaving. Has anyone else experienced this, or did you love it straight from the start?

  4. Hi guys, am moving over on my 190 visa to Sydney at the beginning of January and trying to get organised!

I'm wondering if anyone has any recent experience getting accredited as a teacher with NESA in NSW? I previously had Conditional Accreditation when I was on a WHV between 2014 and 2015 and did casual teaching for a year. I've now done my Masters since then so have the full 4 years required for Provisional Accreditation. I'm wondering if I will have to reapply for new accreditation, or if I have to change the one I previously had?

Also, wondering if anyone was able to use their teaching experience in their home country to prove that they are already a Proficient Teacher? I have over 5 years of full time teaching experience and am thinking if there's a way to submit evidence of this experience so I can move straight up to Proficient once I am re-registered? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks! 🙂

  5. No, it just needs to say how many overall days you did and the overall ages covered on your course e.g mine say something like completed 110 says supervised teaching practice with the age range 5-11 years. I’m pretty sure AITSL give the criteria it needs to include so if you just copy that and send in your email to your university.

I am feeling a bit stupid - I can’t see how I go through the skills assessment for a secondary school teacher?? I have set up an immi account but the only 189 visa I can select is the New Zealand path??
Trying to work out how to get the assessment done and submit an expression of interest.
    Can anyone advise me?

You need to apply to AITSL for the skills assessment

  7. No that won’t be a problem that it’s stated in weeks. My letter from my university stated something like ‘6 weeks, 7 weeks and 10 weeks of placement.’ Just calculate how many days that is and write it on the form when it asks how many days, that’s what I did.

Do you mind sharing your point details? Was that 70 without the state nom? Any from experience? And about how long ago was this?

I'm the 65 (70 if state nominated) point secondary teacher boat as well... just trying to figure out how in demand we are for NSW since the 189 will likely never happen. The states haven't really started rolling out invites for the year yet, just a handful here and there, but obviously not to me.

Just feeling a bit screwed since I got my Bsci and Mteach in AU... getting no love after investing over 160k in tuition. Had to leave my jobs when my work rights expired 6 months ago. Now I'm sitting around back in the US with my thumb up my butt waiting for an invite to go back to what I now consider home.

I had 30 for age, 20 for English and 15 for education. I didn’t claim any experience. So I had 65 plus 5 for the 190, and I lodged the visa on the 16th June.

    Thanks Bran.

Niamh, did you have to give much info from the university you obtained your post grad from? Or just your certificate?

    Thanks again guys.

All they needed was my MA transcript and certificate. I think you have to give them the dates as well that you undertook the course so they can see that it a full year.

No, there's no special need initial teaching degree available in Ireland. Only post grad, but I don't hold one...

Ah ok, I think that might be a problem. I did a 3 year degree in primary education and then a Masters in special needs, and that qualified me as a special needs teacher. I think you will need to do the post grad to get recognised by AITSL, as the special needs requirement is 1 year full time study ?

Anyone have any idea how it takes from when you go to Bupa to getting the result?

Parents went to Bupa last Tuesday 28/9, got an email (assume automated) saying results with Immi in 5 days.

Do date nothing and nothing on our online account?!

If you log into your medical immi account, you should be able to see its status. Before it’s done it will say incomplete, and then about a week later it should change to completed.

  12. It’s pretty simple if you’re in good health. I think mine was all done in under half an hour! You don’t get to see any results, but in your account you can see when they have uploaded them to immigration.
