  1. Thanks Ali. We are applying for a 189 PR visa for Oz through my husband's job, plumber, but I would like to be working as a nurse when we get there. Do you think I still need to do the skills assessment?? Xx
  2. Hi all, Apologies if this has been done before (pretty sure it will have been but I can't find!) I have been told that I can take my diploma over to Oz if I register it with NZ first. I'm looking for any advice on this and I have a few questions if that's ok? 1. Is it true? 2. Is it easy to do? 3. Will they want to do skills assessment on me? 4. How long does it take (no immediate rush to be honest)? 5. How long is it valid for? 6. Are they not pissed off when you just scoot off to Oz with your new qualification? thanks ever so much xx
  3. I know, same..... we think it's because he'll be working under houses and floorboards, meeting Australia's finest creepy crawlies.
  4. Husband is a plumber and the assessment requires a first aid course with additional topics such as bites Etc.... therefore the costly 3-day course
  5. Hi, sorry, I had my rant then had to go out. Naughty I know... I meant visa stuff. We are applying for 189 PR and there are just loads of expenses at every hurdle (e.g. a first aid course costing £354 which we hadn't accounted for). We're saving like crazy and although I think it's gonna be the best money we ever spend, it's driving me crazy! I feel better today though! Ploughing through this with a stiff upper lip (which I intend to get rid of when we leave haha). Apologies for not clarifying what is so damned expensive!!
  6. Why is everything so damned expensive!!! Arghhh!! Thanks.
  7. I'm sure Australia is just testing our commitment by throwing these hurdles in our way... Stu is complaining loudly about losing 3 day's work and paying for the privilege. I keep telling him it'll be the best money he ever spends.... Don't know what to suggest on the 3 or 1 day situation. Totally your call.
  8. Hi Josh, we have just booked the three day first aid course with St Johns Ambulance- £354!!! It was the most appropriate one that matched the list given by the Vetassess company. We didn't expect that little cost and it's only plumbers that have to do it!! Ouch.
  9. Hello, I'm jumping on here for advice if that's ok....? My husband is a plumber and we have saved enough for the vetasses test (approx £1400!!!) so we want to apply for that very soon. It would be brilliant if anybody who has completed this practical can give us some guidance on how the day will pan out- what will he be tested on etc (we are going to manchester based centre). Also, just read yesterday that he needs to have done his First Aid training and produce a certificate. He's not looking forward to that particular training day hahaha! Thanks in advance.
  10. I was wondering this, by the time we go I will have worked for 4 years. I think mine will be scrapped because not put in enough money
  11. Hello everybody, this is my first post on here so please be kind  I am a theatre nurse, doing anaesthetics and recovery nursing. My qualification is a diploma in adult nursing along with the additional modules required to work in theatres. We are applying for a visa based on my husband's points but I need to know what my chances of getting a job over there are. I have heard that Diploma nurses aren't really recognised, is this true? Thank you!
