Hi, I'm moving to Adelaide but don't arrive until the 21st August. I'll probably miss the first get together, but would love to be included in any other dates. Would be great to meet some like minded people and hear your stories of the move down under!

I only arrive 3 weeks before you on the 3rd. Don't think there has been an date set for the meet up yet, so you may not miss it. But would be up for saying hi to another newbie when you arrive :)

  2. I move to Adelaide in 6 weeks time and am now trying to get my head around renting somewhere.

I'm coming on my own and the enormity of what I am doing it beginning to hit me and make me worry (probably unnecessarily). Reading about open inspections and the competition is stressing me out. Sounds silly but just reassure me that it's not going to be impossible to secure somewhere?

I've been looking at domain and realestate for ideas of what is available, and I assume I just need to trawl round all the estate agents when I arrive and book into inspections? I will write a short covering letter, I'll have a letter of employment for agency nursing work, and proof of funds. Does anyone think I'll need anything else?

I have had terrible experiences of shared houses here in the UK so renting somewhere of my own sounds much better to me, as I'm sure people will suggest I look into shared houses.

    • Significantly condensing the occupation lists used for skilled migration visas, including the subclass 457 visa, from 19 April 2017.

No one has mentioned this. This suggests they are going to shrink the SOL for all skilled visas. 19th April is tomorrow!

    Hi katherine,

i made the move to Perth 7 years ago on my own. So anything you need to know just let me know. My best advice is to accept all invatations to social gatherings and actively get out there and meet as many people as you can! Adelaide is lovely i have visited there a few times and would have moved there if there had a been any nursing job opportunities in my speciality.Good luck with the move over.

     Brit Girl  :-)

    Thank you :)

  5. I did look at reviews online. I every single company I have looked at has far more terrible reviews than positive ones. Probably because people like to complaint more than say positive stuff. They can't all be terrible?! So I think I'll just pick one of the ones I've found and go with it.

  6. Finding jobs in SA is proving more difficult than I imagined despite being issued a 190 visa (Not qualified to do theatres/recovery which is where most of the positions are advertised). Any advice on where to look nurses out there??

But wanted to ask whether anyone can advise whether there is much difference in Australian job applications to UK ones? Asking because when jobs do come up I don't want to be pushed out because I didn't have the right things on my application rather than because I am not qualified.

  7. Bear in mind that AHPRA are now demanding that applicants present at a local AHPRA office in Australia within three months of the award of the 'Approval-in-Principle' letter, so unless you fancy a trip to Australia purely to activate your registration, then it's better to leave the AHPRA registration to the end, or near the end, of the visa application process, assuming you're applying with the skilled visa pathway.

    Regards,

    Richard

I can kind of see why they have reduced the time to present (I got in just before they changed the rules.) But there will be people who will get the skills assessment and their visa and not get their registration. Somehow seems a bit unfortunate for those people.

  8. On the 21/02 so only 2 weeks ago. I'm angry though as I wanted to front load form 80 & 1221 but my agent said 'no, don't worry we are rarely asked for 1221 and we don't want to volunteer unnecessary information on a form 80 unless they want it.' I thought well of course they'll want it, my partner and I had 3 police checks from Ireland, Aus & NZ of course they'll wanna know more about this. Anyways, looking on the bright side, I am glad to have heard from CO at least. It has taken every ounce of my energy to do the form 80- like what on earth, we've travelled the world and lived abroad so much it was a nightmare doing dates! Don't even get me started on my partners work history which he hadn't a proper clue about dates or addresses as he works in construction. :arghh: I am a little OCD I know all the dates, addresses, post codes etc of everything I needed. Lucky you Katherine, I was so hoping to be a 'lucky' one! It all depends on your ANSZCO code too though I think. Fingers crossed for you Barry that you get a direct grant in the next couple of days, I am addicted to immi tracker have you used it? It feels like my whole life is resolving around Australia atm!

I didn't use an agent so was working on what I had read and worked out online. I am going on an ANSZCO that they need lots of and don't seem to have had many applications for and I uploaded as much evidence as I could related to what they asked for. Degree cert. professional registration, work references, cv, my skills assessment that confirmed my work experience. I don't have a complicated work history and I am going alone so it was probably a relatively simple application. I agree about the travel movements on form 80 though. In 10 years I've been to 23 countries on 48 separate trips. took me ages to work it all out, but did it before I even lodged my EOI so I was prepared when I was invited. I still have no idea why my grant was so quick though.

  9. Congratulations ?

Did you use a migration agent?

Is it nursing you are going over to do?

    Kat

No migration agent. Completely off my own back. I am going over to do nursing. I applied as a Registered nurse (Surgical). Next challenge is to find myself a job in Adelaide as I've been sponsored by SA.

  10. I believe @TravellingKatherine is a nurse? She might be able to share her experience.

I am indeed. I did mine completely on my own. No migration agent. It's perfectly possible you just have the read all the instructions carefully on each of the organisations eg. ANMAC, AHPRA, immigration etc.

Definitely the 1st thing to do is get your IELTS and go from there. I only just had 3 years experience but had enough points to do it without.

  11. Wow, you must be over the moon! Delighted for you. Hand in your notice and get on that plane. Your dream has arrived :)))

Something like that. I wasn't planning on leave until September so don't think I'll be handing my notice in tomorrow. I am indeed over the moon though

  12. Wow, congrats!! That was super fast. Did you also upload form 80 & 1221 when you front loaded. That's amazing. Gives me hope mine will come through soon... :)

I did upload form 80 but only yesterday afternoon and it was granted by the time I woke up this morning so no idea if they actually looked at it. I had also pre-loaded medical and everything. But I was still expecting 3 months for it to issue. No idea why it was so quick.

  13. That's great news. So when did you submit your application? And where are you heading?

I applied last Saturday. No idea when I'm heading now. Not sure I can wait until September....

  14. I'm in complete shock. Woke up this morning to a visa grant letter! Only submitted it a week ago. I had previously loaded everything and submitted stuff as part of my 190 application but I'm still completely stunned.

Wasn't going to go until September because didn't think visa would be through until June so completely thrown for a loop now!

  15. So I have lodged my 190 visa application this morning!! Excited much!!!:jiggy:

    But I now have questions.

Once I'd completed my application it gives you the attach documents page. That page told me I didn't need to attach any documents based on the information provided but I may be asked for some. Surely that's wrong. I must need to attach documents. Does it normally tell you want you are supposed to add??

Also do I have to attach all my documents at once? I am waiting for my police check to come back which should be with me Tuesday. Do I wait and submit everything together or can I submit everything today and upload that when it arrives? My medical is already done and I've filled in a Form 80 so that's literally all I'm waiting for.

    Any advice folks?

  16. So I am waiting for sponsorship confirmation for a 190 from SA. On their website it says the processing time is 5 weeks....and tomorrow is the end of week 5 on my application.

So now wondering if there is something missing on my application though I submitted what they asked for? Maybe I'm just getting impatient but I just want to get my invite and get my visa application in. Leaving the UK at the end of August is getting less and less likely by the week :(
