  1. Hi, Is there anyone currently in Brisbane looking to go and do farm work in Queensland or anywhere close to Brisbane? (For their 88 day second year visa) I am on my own and I thought it would be nice to meet someone and go together. I have found a farm in NSW in Tabulam which is about 3-4 hours drive away from Brisbane. If there is anyone going to do blueberry picking, please let me know as I would like to know how to get from Casino to Tabulam as I do not have a car and there is no public transport from Casino to Tabulam farm. Also, I have found a vegetable farm in Gatton QLD, an hour and half from Brisbane, but I have just seen a bad review for that farm. Has anyone worked there before, because the review says they are unsafe. Any information will be helpful. Thanks in advance.
  2. Hi, I'm Sonal, I'm 24. I moved to Sydney few months ago, and I'm looking to meet some people over from the uk. Would be good to meet you, if you are interested. I'm here on a working holiday visa as well. I'm 6 months into it already! I'm free this weekend, if you would like to meet. Looking to meet people who would like to do some exploring at the weekends and socialising! Thanks (happy to meet in the city)
  3. Thank you for your response. I'll take a look
  4. Hi, I am on a WHV 417, currently in my 6th month into the year. I am looking at extending my visa for another year, but I am currently working in Sydney and my contract doesn't end till end of September. I wanted to know how easy is it to get farm work or any other work to extend my visa in September/October. My visa will end in mid February so I haven't got much time left. Does anyone have any contacts or websites I can go on to contact farms to secure a place to do my 3 months work? I've been looking at mostly Queensland or new south wales, but I am open to other parts of Australia as well. I also saw a few months ago that there was a 3 months job in administration in Perth, where they provide accommodation and you get to have 3 months signed off to get 2nd year extension. But I can't find that job anymore. If anyone knows of work like that, that would be very helpful. Please let me know all options, even if I haven't mentioned anything on here. Thanks in advance
  5. okay yeah that's great advice. I didn't think of that. Thank you
  6. okay will do. thanks for your help
  7. Oh okay, didn't think it would be this difficult. I'm on a working holiday visa for 12 months, so I can only work for a company for up to 6 months
  8. Hi, I have just arrived in Brisbane Aus, and I wanted to find out if anyone knows of any recruitment agencies in Brisbane for finance/admin/accounting jobs for entry level. I haven't got any office experience, only retail, but I still want to try and find jobs in an office/finance environment. I don't mind working for free for a few weeks, just some work experience would be nice. I have contacted a few recruitment agencies but most of them are saying they want office experience. Any advise would be great. Thanks in advance.
  9. Thanks everyone! I will make sure that it's all covered. Thanks for your help
  10. Thank you I will have a look on there
  11. Hi, I am going to Australia in one month, on a working holiday visa for a year and I'm not sure how to do my travel insurance. Could anyone advise me on there knowledge or experience on how to get travel insurance as I am not sure how long to do it for. I can't find anywhere cover for one year, I have only found one backpackers insurance cover on post office website which is only for six months. I may be coming back to England within the one year (for visiting purpose) so not sure whether I can get travel insurance from Oz just for flights and how expensive it would be. Also, if I decide to travel to other countries near by how can I get cover? And health insurance covered while living in Oz, if I'm not covered by my travel insurance anymore. Thanks
  12. Hi, okay that's great, I'll make sure it's bulk billed. Thank you for the advice.
  13. Thanks. For the Medicare card, which office do i get it from? Do i get it before I leave from UK or in Australia? Okay, yeah leaving the money in UK sounds better. What is the tax file number for?
  14. Hi, I am looking into getting a working holiday visa. As the requirements for this visa is to have a minimum of $5000 to take to Australia, what is the best way to take it/transer it to a bank there. I don't really want to take $5000 in cash as I find that is not safe. However, I probably will take some cash with me, but not that much. Do you think I should transfer my money from a UK bank to an Australian Bank? Im not sure which is the best/safest/easiest way is. Or I was thinking to take the $5000 in cash and then open an account once I'm in Australia so that when I get a job, I have somewhere for wages to go into. But not sure that is safe. Also, about getting travel insurance; obviously I would get cover for my journey to Australia, but is it best to get a one year cover with a company in UK, or do I also get insurance when I'm living there for health and medicine. As I'm not sure how the health care works over there. I have asthma, so I need to make sure I can get my inhalers when I run out.
  15. Thanks again for the replies. I will be open to any job as I wouldn't just sit around, I know it's expensive to live in Australia. But just thought I'd ask whether it is possible or not, and yeah from the comments I've read above there's always a possibility. And thanks for the tip Marisawright, I will definitely try and go to agencies in person.
  16. Thank you all for your comments. This really helps a lot, made things a lot more clearer. I just recently completed my postgraduate degree, and I'm currently working in retail. The only work experience I have is retail and my degree qualification. I am looking for jobs in finance, entry level jobs in general insurance and pensions, but I haven't got experience in that. Do you think i would be to get any jobs in that field since I don't have the relevant experience, only the knowledge and degree level qualification?
  17. Hi I live in the UK and I'm looking into getting a working holiday visa to move to Brisbane but I have a few questions regarding the requirements. I read on immi.gov.au about the visa and it says that you need to have enough money to buy a return ticket or ticket out of Australia. Does that mean I have to show proof that I will be leaving the country before the visa runs out or is it just a proof of bank balance they are after? I haven't applied for the working holiday visa yet, but I am planning too; I wanted to know roughly how long it takes for the visa to be granted? Also, Is it easier to look for and ask about jobs once I've moved there, because I have emailed some agencies but they haven't replied? I'm not sure whether I should just apply for the visa or wait until I get a response from the agencies in Oz, since I will be paying quite a lot for the visa.
