    457 insurance help

Hi Another health issue. I (likely because of my chronic disease) have just been declined insurance for the 457 (even though it's temporary). This is an outright decline, not an "ok but we won't cover existing conditions" (which was the outcome I was expecting). Any suggestions/ideas or does anyone know of any companies who may insure me (either with or without the existing conditions, just need evidence of insurance for VISA). Thanks in advance (this is all so very stressful!!!)
  2. Hi I know the maximum duration is supposed to be 4 years, but if I were undertaking study there and that ran over does anyone know if you can extend that 4 years for another 12 months at the end. I am planning on working and doing my PhD over there when we move but the length of time that will take is 5 years not 4. We're being sponsored by work on a 457. Thanks
  3. Then what do they base it on? I've heard that they will consider chronic disease on an individual basis but that it goes on likely costs you might incur...
  4. Thanks Marisawright. I think we will worry mostly about PR when the time comes. We can have 4 years on 457, plenty of time to prove I'm not going to cost the earth with my healthcare and establish ourselves as useful to Australia, then we tackled the rest of the issues at that time. The 457 is the most pressing concern right now.
  5. That's excellent news. We will probably still get a decent insurance package just in case but the main worry is the lack of 12 month cover for the SLE - prescriptions and occasional bloods being the issue! Otherwise I am pretty decent and stable and just get on with things!
  6. Hi I know this is probably a much asked question but I keep reading conflicting information and now I am confused. Husband and I are coming over very soon on 457 skilled worker visas as doctors. I have a chronic disease that needs medication and follow up in specialist clinics. I am well controlled and work full time. I know we need insurance on a 457. I also know most if not all companies don't cover the first 12 months. So my question is: am I covered on the reciprocal agreement for prescription capped costs and follow up with doctors etc? We are both UK citizens. Follow up question (not so pressing): The disease is SLE. Is this likely to be a deal breaker for eventual permanent residency? I am on a cocktail of drugs, all therapeutic and not for symptoms. But I am also very well controlled on this cocktail and work full time. Anyone have any experience of this? Many thanks in advance.

    457 insurance

That's brilliant and comprehensive thank you so much! Also reassuring. I've been reading around the forum and other people with equivalent sounding chronic disease seem to have had no issues getting temporary or permanent visas. I am feeling much more reassured.
  8. Hi My husband and I (both doctors) are moving over in Queensland in january on 457 visas with aims to permanent residency as soon as we can. I was wondering about buying property on 457s. I read that it is possible but 20% deposit is usually needed, however this can be 10% if you've been working in your current profession for >12 months. We have been doctors in the UK for years, will these years count or does it mean working in Oz as doctors for >12 months. Contemplating buying asap as we hate wasting money on rentals. Many thanks

    457 insurance

Hi, my husband and I are moving to Australia in January, Queensland. I know these questions have probably been asked before but I am quite confused. We're both doctors initially coming over on a 457, sponsorship is covering my husband and I am going over as a spouse on his visa but still able to work on it. I am told we will need insurance for the 457. So first round of questions: 1. I thought as Brits we had some reciprocal care under medicare? 2. Any recommendations and do we need the insurance before we apply for the visa? 3. I have a chronic disease; Systemic lupus, is there any chance I will be turned down for a 457? Does anyone have experience with this? Furthermore will insurance companies cover it - I've heard most have a 12 month policy until they cover it and then some may not cover it at all - what are my options for health care and prescriptions in the mean time and what sort of costs are we looking at? Going forward we would be looking at permanent residency and really the same questions apply: 4. Do we get any sort of medicare cover? 5. Does anyone know of companies that will cover the lupus/existing conditions? Any idea what prices we would look at? 6. Is lupus a deal breaker for permanent residency? What if I remained on spouse visa (husband is healthy)? Many thanks in advance. The medical side of things is confusing and concerning me and no one seems to have answers or experience. I can't see a stable, chronic disease being an issue, I am well, work full time as a doctor and contribute to society, I just need regular medications to stay that way!
