  1. We have a 12 month 600 visitor visa and are heading to Australia in May. We applied for a 143 cpv  in June 2015 so, providing we don’t develop any nasty illnesses before the medical, we should be granted pr during our “visit”   We are shipping our furniture & stuff with Doree Bonner & while awaiting a reply from them I thought I’d post my query here.

I’ve been looking at an info leaflet on sending unaccompanied personal effects.  It seems to say you can’t send clothes if you’re not a permanent resident.  This seems a bit strange when furniture and even furs are allowed. If we send clothes what happens if they’re not allowed? Are they confiscated or is there  tax to pay?

    Here’s the link https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/Factsheets/Documents/sendingpersonalbelongingstoaustraliafinal2015feb17.pdf

  2. Sorry MarissaWright but you’re wrong about only staying 12 months in 5 years. There are a variety of 600 visas. The longer ones for 3 or 5 years allow stays of up to 12 months in any 18. There’s also a 12 month one allowing stays of up to 12 months on any entry up till the expiration.  Also there are shorter ones for up to 6 or 9 months.

  3. It’s worth keeping in mind that over the last two years immi have averaged processing 6 months worth of applications each year. Between  the Septembers 2015-2016 they processed 7 months worth and then until early September 2017 it was 5months of applications. I think that gives a better picture than fretting from week to week

  5. We applied end of June 2015 too. It will be interesting following everyone’s experience in the June group. Despite the progress this month I’m still not expecting to get our visas until the last quarter of next year. There’s bound to be more slippage. Hope I’m wrong though[emoji3]

  6. I also saw the 2-4yrs processing time now quoted on the web but hoping that is for those starting the process now!

You can read up on the new 5yr visa but such a lot of info I gave up!

I know it starts July 17

I cant find any information on it though I did read a consultation document a while ago. Do you know the actual name and subclass?

  7. Lol. Ok thank you. I sent a blank email to immigration (as advised on another forum) it came back that currently 173 visa's are less than a year wait!! 

Are are you sure you've read that correctly? According to my test email 173 visas are processed at the same rate as 143's, i.e. They are currently processing applications up to 30th July 2014. It's the conversion from 173 to 143 that is less than a year.

  8. I just sent off another test email, with the same result as Catlady

Are they playing with us or do they really not know what they're doing?

    OFFSHORE APPLICANTS (subclass 143/173)

When your application is allocated to an assessing officer, you or your authorised contact may be asked to provide more documents including but not limited to Assurance of Support (subclass 143 only), police certificates and health clearances to finalise your application.

We are currently assessing applications lodged up to and including 07 July 2014.

  9. Just had a test email reply. No movement at all this week ☹️

We are currently assessing applications lodged up to and including 30 June 2014. Please note that due to a very high number of 173 and 143 applications received in June 2014, the assessment date is expected to change at a much slower pace than usual. We appreciate your patience and your understanding.

  10. After my father passed away his house was empty for quite a while before it was sold, and had furniture in it for some of that time. The insurance company required that someone check on it regularly. They suggested weekly but there was no absolute time period. If your neighbours are willing to do that for you, you should be ok. Check with the insurance company

  11. Hi everyone! I just wanted to introduce myself. My OH & I put in our cpv143 visa application in June of this year. We used an agent and paid our first VAC and had an acknowledgement in short order. Both our sons and the grandkids are now living in Port Stephens, NSW so we're hoping to join them. In the meantime we've bought a motorhome and plan to explore as much of the U.K. And Europe while waiting. I've been lurking for a while (as you do) and have learnt loads already and am looking forward to learning more.
