Had my citizenship ceremony last night. End of a long road and a very proud moment. Told my Mrs no more visa, police checks, citizenship, statements, forms to fill in now to which she replied you have to fill in forms and apply for your passport now haha. good luck to all still waiting, it comes eventually. Took me 17 months in total from application

Congrats @Rorz. The wait is finally over. And when you finally have your passport, entering and leaving the Airport is just a breeze. 🙂

    My timeline:

    Applied: 29 of Nov 17

    Received 29 of Nov 17

Email for test and interveiw: 12 Oct 18

Test and interview date: 6 Nov 18

i have the interveiw next week! I would like to know what I should take besides the originals of the documents attachs? How long it last the interview and what do they ask? I am so excited! thank you!

It is just an informal one. the officer will just ask for your original documents, photocopy it, ask you if you have any travel plans.. and take a photo of you and that's it.

He/she will assist you to the test area and take your test. Good luck!

I have been in Australia 3 years in Jan on a 189 visa, can I start the process for my citizenship before the 4 years so that I am ready when the time comes?

You need to be living here for 4 years with no more than 1 year being away from Australia before you can apply. IMMI will not allow you to lodge even a day short before your 4th anniversary.

@Rorz Hey mate, just let you know: I have a very similar timeline with @reachtoakhil  Applied: 16 Apr 2017 and tested 22 Jun 2017, then a very long long long waiting to now, 18 mths since lodgement and 16 mths  since test, still Received. Received my FOI result with junk info. What I can do next step, I don't know

Oh no, I am shocked that you haven't received your approval yet.  reachtoakhil got his ceremony invite, so I hope you hear something positive soon.

Does anyone know how long it takes to approve citizenship application after interview?  Had interview (only interview, no test for under 18)  in  09 July 2018 and still not heard from Dept. of Home Affairs?

Did you check your IMMI if the application was approved? That should be your indicator if you're already approved.

Thank you. I am thinking to call council and request them to accomodate me in next date.

Nature of my job includes travel a lot it is very difficult to make last minute changes. I have informed my boss if next ceremony date comes in the middle of my travel week we need to cancel the travel.

This time I am speaking in a conference which can not be changed so I can not cancel my travel plan as it’s been scheduled for me long before and I also updated my travel plans to immigration department.

As per immi suggestions and your experience I will not attend though I will call council.

    Thank you.

Yes, you can call your council and let them know of your scenario. I am sure they will accommodate you for the next ceremony.

Today I received the letter for our ceremony. But unfortunately, we can not attend as I am traveling for work in the same week. I already updated immi about my travel plans a month ago but still, they scheduled my ceremony in that week.

I called immi to reschedule the ceremony date and I got the most unexpected answer from the lady who picked up the call. She told me just do not attend the ceremony and you then you will receive a letter of non-attendance after that we will put in waiting list again and schedule your ceremony in next available date.

That is also their response to me when I told them I cannot attend the ceremony, just do not attend and they will book me for the next available date in the council.

I ended up attending the ceremony, and paying for passport expediting fee for our holiday the week after.

One of my friend is overseas when she had her first ceremony and she just did not show up. She was scheduled for the next ceremony.

Think someone messed up with the dates of application. I just noted mine was wrong and corrected it. I'm all done and dusted but found this spreadsheet useful along the way.

True, mine was messed up too. But I also corrected it to help others who are still waiting for their citizenship. I just can't believe someone will change the dates for fun or what, but seriously, it is not funny at all.

But someone changed some of the dates, and I find it not too reliable anymore. I had to change the correct dates to our timelines as it was also changed.

    Hi Guys

When you get an approval , do you get an intimation email from the immi online portal or it turns from Recieved to Approved and you can only see it when you log in to your application portal ? Is it also normal to get an approval letter in the normal post and still have received status in the online portal ?

    Cheers

My IMMI showed approved first and then I got the approval letter after a week.

    Hi guys,

I have a question about traffic offence. I've already applied for my citizenship and I had a traffic infringement a few years back. It's paid and no court finding. Do I need to include that in my application?

Because it only mentions on the application form to include offence with court conviction. Anyone with this experience and got citizenship approval?

My husband had a parking offence and we did not include that in the application since it did not reach to court.

    Hi Crunchy,

Partner applied on 19/04/2018 online, test email received on 16/08/2018, test date was for 03/09/2018. His interviewer told him he got 100%.

    Darwin location for us.

It's still not updated on the immi account yet. The interviewer told him that the next process is the police checks which immigration will do and that a ceremony date could take up to 6 months.

Good luck with your application ?

That was a quick turnaround. Your husband's IMMI should show approved first (a formal letter will follow soon) before he gets a ceremony invite.

We got our ceremony invite 1 month after approval.

Did my interview and test on Friday (31Aug), 100% on the test and my immi account changed to Approved straight after. My husband did his yesterday (3 Sept), 100% but he is still showing as received in the immi account. Both the same application, same country, same docs etc.... weird! ?

Mine was approved after 2 days, husband got his approval 20 days after.

Are you from which state? Ours is in Victoria.

Congrats on your approval, hopefully your husband will get his approval soon.

    All,

Is it a requirement to be in Australia after submitting your application? It is a bit confusing as it says "You have to be present in Australia at the time of decision". Does that mean an applicant cant/ shouldn't travel out of country?

On a separate note, is it ok to leave the country for a few months for work after submitting the application?

Hi @nakulm, I already replied on one of your separate post. As mentioned, you can travel after submitting your application, but you will not be invited for the test until you come back in Australia.

  17. You have to be in Australia to be invited for the test and interview.

Did you mention in your application the travel dates that you intend to do?

When we lodged our citizenship application, we mentioned our upcoming travel dates, so we were invited for the test right after we came back to Australia.

If you are travelling in between application, it might delay your application and you will only be invited when you come back in the country.
