    sorry my timeline should read

    Test - Jan 13 2022

    Approval - Jan 31 2022

    Waiting on Ceremony.......

    Brisbane City Council

    Hi Paul,

Still waiting for Brisbane City Council ceremony and my timeline is:

    Applied - March 2021

    Test - June 2021

    Approval - July 2021

You may be waiting a while… sorry!

  2. Anyone know the process for travelling overseas if still waiting for ceremony date? Wanting to go back to UK for Christmas if borders remain open that is!

I’m in Brisbane and it’s been around 4 months since interview & test approval so not expecting ceremony to be until next year so would be back for it.

  3. I’m not sure if this is normal but my birth certificate doesn’t have details of my parents on it. Just wondering as for the birth name, date and gender on the documents table it says about details of parents? Don’t want to turn up and it not be accepted but have never had a problem with it? Thanks!

Yes. The website is intelligent in backend and will "Pop Up SECTION" in "attach Page " section - all relevant documents.

If you fill in correct details for the IN/OUT travel locations, it will ask you for all required foreign country PCC. Australian Police check is done by department itself.

Usually you have to provide PCC for countries you visit after PR (for 90 days - including your home country)

Is this from when it was granted or when it was activated? Eg my visa was granted in July 2016 but didn’t arrive in Aus until 2017

Good evening everyone I hope you’re well.

I recently (September 2020) submitted my citizenship application and “front loaded” I.e submitted all documents including but not limited to my UK police check.

I have just received a further information request asking for my police check.
I’m not sure what else they need/ want from me?

My ACRO police check is dated within the last 12 month and states my maiden name.

Since applying for citizenship and the police check I have not left the Country.

Has anyone else been asked for their police check twice or know what I need to do?!

Any help would be amazing! Cheers!

    Hi Jadee,

I'm just applying for my citizenship now. Bit confused about the overseas police check - when it says granted does it mean activated? E.g my visa was granted in July 2016 but didn't arrive in Australia until Jan 2017. Do you think I need a police check for that time?

    Thanks 🙂

It's not an issue.  As long as the name on your visa matches the name on your passport, the name you use elsewhere (bank accounts, email, etc.) doesn't matter.  I didn't change my name in Australia until I took citizenship since it wasn't worth the effort and cost to get a new passport and then update immigration.  The only difficulty is remembering to book travel in your maiden name.

Thanks very much MaggieMay24, it’s good to have what I was thinking reaffirmed!

  7. Hi all,

My partner and I have been in QLD for 3 years now. We went back to the UK (both British citizens) nearly 3 weeks ago to get married and are now back in Oz. I want to change my name with everything in Oz but not my passport just yet (honeymoon booked in September in maiden name as only just got new passport), does anyone know if this will be possible? Worried thateverything will be in my married name apart from my passport and visa? Is this okay? Thanks in advance!

  9. I found out that I could do the extra 6 units of Science at my local TAFE, but it would mean joining the Science teacher training and just participating in the sections I needed. They wouldn't give me a cost, as I needed to enroll on the course first and then they would let me know which units I needed. I roughly worked out doing the extra units could take me close to a year to complete and that didn't take into account any waiting around for the units I didn't need to be taught. So I gave up on it as I was already considering a career change, plus I just really couldn't stand the thought of studying something I had been competently teaching months before!

Doing the extra experience in the UK might help when it comes to landing a job, but it will not help you in anyway to register to be a teacher in NSW. If you want more info let me know, I still have the report from BOSTES which told me what I needed to do. Sorry to be so negative, I just wish I had realised before I was over here!!!

    I've sent you a PM ☺️

  10. But be aware if you do want to teach Science you may be required to complete extra training. To be registered to teach Science in NSW I would have to complete 6 extra units of Science because my degree is in Psychology, despite the fact I taught Science for over 4 years before I came out.

how did you complete the 6 extra units of science? I've never taught it but obviously do a fair bit of biology in psychology. Was thinking of asking my school for experience in UK as not looking to go move until September 2017.
