  1. We had a similar situation when we shipped our stuff with a different company. We sent it Suffolk to Sydney and were quoted 12 weeks (sole use of a 20ft container). When it had departed and we had arrived in Australia we got an email from them telling us that we had taken extra things and that they would be charging us 500GBP extra for this. It was next to impossible to contact them but eventually we got another email from them listing these extra items. They were things like sun loungers, extra chests of drawers, coat racks and things like that which we simply didn't own, let alone pack. OH helped with the packing on the UK side, so he saw exactly what went into the container and said that there was plenty of room. They then took the 500GBP off our card without permission, and because my MIL was forwarding our card statements to us, we didn't learn of this charge until weeks later.

We waited and waited for the shipment, kept trying to contact them to find out where it was, and eventually after 16 weeks managed to find out that it had arrived in Sydney four weeks previously but that they had lost the paperwork. Actually, they tried to blame us by saying that we hadn't provided the paperwork, but the packers had taken it with them and I had a signed receipt to say as much. They eventually admitted they'd lost it so I had to provide a second copy to them. When we eventually got our stuff, I checked and counted everything, and sure enough, the extra things weren't in the container. I suspect that somehow they treated our sole use container as a partial container because there was some space left inside, and put someone else's things in it and they had mixed up the paperwork which is why it had gone missing and why we were charged. The missing paperwork was why it was delayed, because it couldn't go through customs.

So, I would check with them that the paperwork is in order because that was what caused the delay in our case.

One of the companies that we had out to quote warned me that some other companies were doing that with containers that weren't full. For anyone looking for quotes they advised me to make sure it says sole use of the container on the quote.

  2. I worked for a mental health charity a couple of years ago and it operated in conjunction with the NHS. The funding was changed and regardless of how many sessions the individual needed we would be paid for an assessment and two treatment sessions and no more. Getting 10 sessions funded sounds good to me in comparison.

  3. We are making the move with three young children and due to age will be going over on a temporary visa. We are selling our house and for us we would rather have gone and come back ending up in rented accommodation than get to a point where we can't go and wish we had. It is a very personal choice and everyone will think theirs is the right opinion, which it is for them. We are in a slightly different position as we get no support with child care from our families so won't be any different over there.

The comments above are correct that if you loose your job you have 90 days to find another or leave. But you may not loose it, or you may get pr. I am on a facebook page for poms wanting to move to Australia and there are a number of success stories of people going over on a 457 and now have pr or even citizenship.

If I was in your position I would probably be writing a pros and cons list for staying and one for going. Helps me order my thoughts.

  4. As a former publican I doubt very much there will be many if any British pubs left. By the time you retire anyway.

I agree with the other posts it is going to feel strange to begin with and one week isn't long to settle. Not being with your family will be adding to it all. I am sure once you are all back together things will start to feel better. I know I wouldn't feel right without my husband and daughters even if I was still in my home town.

  5. As far as I know bankruptcy isn't taken into consideration and your credit history starts again in oz so doesn't follow you.

If he has no equity in the house he won't loose it in the bankruptcy. If he can keep paying the mortgage payments and possibly rent it out while he moves to oz he will over time regain the equity. Providing once he is discharged from bankruptcy (normally after a year) he buys back the interest in his house, this is normally an admin fee plus any equity. Unlikely house prices will shift much in a year, plus point out negatives to estate agents and press you are looking for a quick sale you can ensure low valuations. Buying back the interest will mean there is no charge over the property and when he does sell any equity will be his. Just a thought, might help him down the line. Although if the house isn't in his name he might want to seek advice, cab are very helpful.

  6. I have read through the posts on here and I am slightly confused (it doesn't take much).

We had a visa assessment by a registered and recommended agent who said that although I have experience as a restaurant manager I didn't have any relevant qualifications to pass the skills assessment. I may have misread but it sounds like if you have a degree even if it is in an unrelated subject that you would pass the skills assessment. Have I completely misunderstood the posts or would my BSc Hons in criminology be enough to satisfy the skills assessment?

If not does anyone know which qualification I would have to do?

Also someone mentioned the 489 visa in relation to not having the qualifications. Is that something to look into or have I misunderstood that bit?

    TIA

  7. 457 visas can go through pretty quickly. I know two separate people who have had them granted in 4 & 5 weeks from nomination. One has then taken another couple of months to sort everything. The other it was granted last Wednesday, their belongings were collected on Tuesday and they flew this Wednesday. Guess it depends on what you agree with the employer too, how long they will wait from visa grant.

Keep focused and you can do it. Good luck.

  8. We have just put ours on the market through a local estate agent, but it is going on an online auction. You set a. Reserve fee and it doesn't sell until it reaches that figure. The buyer pays the fees, you just pay for the legal pack which is around £250. Plus the buyer has to pay a reserve fee so they are far less likely to pull out. The exchange and completion dates are set too so you know when it will go through.

Is that an option you could look at, because even if you are in the UK a buyer may pull out again.

Also I am pretty sure you can reduce your council tax if the property is empty for up to a year.

QUOTE=Dennic;1936850571]We had sold subject to contracts way back in June when our tenants moved out (they also didn't allow any one in till they moved out) we was told it was a cash buyer ready to go.....

after constant messing about on their part 4 and half months (empty and us having to pay mortgage and council tax) they pulled out on the day of completion (pissed off big time) that was Friday just gone, Saturday hubby gave it over to a friend that owns a letting agency so will now be rented again, he is so angry with the whole thing and being so far made it difficult with getting people to answer phones/emails that he has now decided that he wants us to move back for a year to do up both properties and sell them at the same time

At first I was over the moon with this idea as I've had a feeling of wanting to return but now on reflection my children's education is most important

I found out that uk year 10 sit exams and a lot of course work goes towards the grades so my son won't have time to do all the work that goes towards the gcse

Might have to get him to hold off for an extra year before deciding

lol my head is in stress mode

  9. Hi guys

    I was on a dependent 457 from April 2014, however my relationship broke down and I was then sponsored by my employer on my own 457 from May 2015. I am hoping someone can answer the following;

Does the time spent on the dependent 457 count towards the two years to qualify to apply for the ENS transition scheme? If so that would make me eligible to apply in April 2016?

I have also heard the government may change this rule to 12 months next year?

    any advice appreciated.

    thanks

You don't need to have been with your employer for two years. If they are happy to sponsor you for pr you can do it now. The two years just means you don't need to have a skills assessment. Good luck.

  10. Hi Laura.

Thanks for that I will contact TSS Immigration and see if they can help me. What's the name of the Facebook page for the Poms moving to Oz?

I live in Corbridge, Northumberland and hoping to head to the GC area around Brisbane. I have one daughter, she is 11. It is just myself and my daughter coming out so I'm a little uneasy about doing it on my own, though I do have friends in Perth, Adelaide and a friend of a friend in Broadbeach GC to help.

I sold my house in September though I didn't make much out of it. I can't see me buying anywhere in Oz I'd be renting or even house sharing. I'm hoping I can share with another single mum or a girl/couple of girls around my age that don't mind me having a daughter. Again all that will fall into place hopefully when we arrive or if we arrive depending on sponsorship opportunities. I'm finding it really hard to to keep positive and it scares me as my planned date for coming out gets closer and I don't feel any further forward.

When are are you hoping to head over, do you have a planned timeline? Do you know anyone in the area you are wanting to head to?

I'd love to keep in contact, let me know how you guys get on too.

    louise

    Hi Louise

I have sent you a private message.

    Take care

  11. There's a limit on all occupations.

It means that they may be removed. There is usually an opportunity for submissions from businesses, professional bodies and the general public to give reasons why occupations should be removed, or not removed as the case may be.

Ok thanks, best get our skates on hubby is a chef.

If you are in Australia on a 457 visa and your occupation is removed does that mean your employer couldn't sponsor you for pr?

  12. Hi again,

I'm applying under 'Film, Radio, TV, Stage Directors 'nec' or possibly 'Media Producer' both occupations are not on the SOL only the CSOL, so I need sponsorship like yourselves. I've been applying for TV jobs directly online at various major TV companies and media groups but not had much luck as yet. Its frustrating. If you don't mind me asking which agency are you in touch? with maybe they could assist me in my line of work?

I am 44 so don't gain much points for that. I also have been told the sponsored temporary visa is not a surefire way to PR, but even if you are sponsored for two years a lot can happen in that time to change the course of you gaining residency so like you I think its worth giving it a try. The fact that you will have worked and lived in Australia for a couple of years can only gain you points on a visa application.

I also thought while I'm working via a sponsorship I could take some further qualifications which would help towards PR.

Where in the UK are you presently based? are you emigrating with children?

Keep in touch and let me know how you get on

    Louise.

    Hi Louise,

We are in touch with TSS immigration and have been impressed with them so far. I don't know if they only recruit for certain industries but worth sending them an email to find out. They may be able to point you in the right direction if they don't deal with media jobs.

We are in Nottinghamshire. Hoping on some house viewings soon, no chance of selling if no one views it!! We have three girls who are 5, 3 and 16 weeks. Where are you based? Do you have children? Where in Australia are you hoping for? We would really like coastal victoria, but being realistic that we might have to be flexible in areas.

It is really frustrating applying for jobs and not getting any where but keep going a job in oz will be for you eventually. I am on a facebook site for poms wanting to move to oz and there are quite a number who have successfully secured sponsorship from the UK.

I will keep in touch and let you know how we get on, please do the same.

    Take care

    Laura

  13. Hi all hope you can help me. We are looking to move to Gold Coast next year. I have been told that you have to pay per year per child for school as we wouldn't be permanent residents. Can anyone fill me on this. Any info would be great thank you

Some states charge people who aren't on permanent visas school fees. Thankfully for you Queensland doesn't. NSW charges $4500 per year, per child. WA has started charging this year $4000 per year per family. NT also charge but I don't know how much.

  14. Ah ok, yes I read about that but my husband doesn't think many employers would be keen to go down that route as it's taking a risk on a complete stranger and spending money / hassle when they don't even know how you're going to get on in the job (my argument for this is that they wouldn't offer the job unless they had a certain degree of confidence in you and your abilities!).

There aren't many jobs advertising 186 sponsorship. If you are flexible on location and don't want to be in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and ? Sorry I can't remember all the places, then you can look for 187 sponsorship which is permanent residence in a rural area. I am pretty sure Adelaide is covered by it.

We are looking for chef jobs and have seen a number offering 187 sponsorship.

I am not 100% sure but I think that you can apply for permanent residence on the direct entry within 6 months of arriving in oz. If you can manage to really impress your boss very quickly you might be able to convince them to sponsor you for pr.

  15. Is it costing you to be in touch with the recruitment agency and them put your husband forward for jobs? Are you applying via a 457 visa in order to be able to emigrate to Australia?

    Hi Louise,

It is not costing us anything to be in touch with the agency and for them to put my husband forward for jobs. Please do not use any agencies that charge you to secure a job.

If they successfully find hubby a job we will pay a fee for their Mara registered immigration services to process the visa, not to secure the job.

We are also applying for jobs we see online and have had some responses so fingers crossed.

As someone else has pointed out it is a temporary visa but we are hoping that we can convince an employer to sponsor for pr. Hubby is 45 so don't have enough points to go straight for pr on an independent visa. Well aware that we could have to return to the UK but we think it is worth it.

We are also hoping on a back up plan of me gaining the qualifications needed to back up my experience to apply for pr if all else fails.

What occupation are you applying under?

  16. I thought it was offered for free now on the NHS, I must be wrong! Not many people choose to get it over here, there doesn't seem to be much awareness amongst GPs (in my experience).

Sorry I didn't make sense in my last post. It is free for babies born on or after 01/05/15 and my youngest falls into that category so I don't pay. But my older two don't so I would have to pay for them to get it.

If we get over to Australia before July next year my youngest won't have had her third injection. The nurse had said two would be enough but I may pay in Australia for it anyway.
