I am in Darwin right now! It is relaxed and beautiful here. The people are the friendliest I have met in the whole of Australia. I have visited every state and backpacked for a year so did have a fair amount of time to experience Australia. Darwin is my favourite place. It is pretty small in terms of population but facilities up here are actually great. I don't feel like I am in the middle of nowhere or disconnected from the rest of the world as some people suggested I would. Yes some days are a little too hot or wet but so what, you sit in with the air con just the same as we sit in with the heating on when it snows in England! I love the tropical plants, the markets and the sunsets. There is a really mix of people up here too. Since being in Darwin I have enjoyed cycling every evening. It is very bike friendly here as the pavements are mostly double width. Pedestrians and cyclists can use most of them together There are great parks for children too. I think the positives of living in such a beautiful place easily out way the negatives and I feel really lucky to have been given the chance to live here!

Hello Callie I have been in Darwin for about 6 weeks. Would love to meet up!! I have a three year old boy. Would love to get a good group of us all together and a community going to all help eachother out. PM me if you want to exchange numbers and we can arrange a meet up when you arrive. Deeney4 and I have been chatting lots, she is really great and she is heading out end of November with her boys too. Looks like we have a good opportunity to create a strong network with all of these families arriving together. I live in Leanyer....but to be honest every where seems close here as traffic is easy no stress even at rush hour times! Charlene x

Hey Alex I will try to PM you. Me and my husband moved to Darwin for work. Most jobs in Adelaide were contract and temporary so we never felt settled. He was offered a permanent full time job here so we took the opportunity!! So glad we did I really get a good feeling about Darwin. Leanyer is lovely, very green and luscious, neat and clean very close to Casuarina which has a lovely shopping centre. My husband's job is in Casuarina too. I am sorry I don't have a Facebook account I never really got into it so I deleted it! I haven't joined any groups at all yet but I hope to soon. I look forward to your arrival Alex will be good to meet especially as we have a little one of similar age just one thing....please tell me the terrible two's will improve soon!!!!!!

Hello everyone I have just moved to Darwin, I have been here for one week!! I have been in Adelaide for 4 years before I moved up here. I am originally form Oxford, I moved here in 2011. I would love to meet up with any families especially people from the UK. I have made no connections up here so far as I have not started work yet and I spend most of my days at home as I have a 2 year old boy. I am living in Leanyer it's about 3kms from Casuarina. I am keen to start building up a network or even start up an expat mums group etc as I think we all need some support being so far from friends and family in the UK!! One thing I want to say is that Darwin truly is beautiful, the lifestyle on offer here is relaxed and the general population are so friendly. It's great for kids... so much to see and do.
