  1. Are they better than Moneycorp ( fee free I think to PIO members??). I haven't opened any transfer accounts yet but will need to shortly.

     

    My quote from Money Corp using the account I opened from here was a worse quote than TransferWise, others on here said ring up and they will improve it...but I simply went to TransferWise and used the better quote without having to speak to anyone and simply clicked a few times.

I did think of going via a HSBC international account, as apparently there is no transfer fee between a UK HSBC and an Australian HSBC account, but apparently you have to have had a domestic account with them for a fair few months first, then you'll be eligible to open an international account. So I guess I'm gonna have to use one of the Australian banks. I'm considering either Westpac or NAB. Again guys, thank you so much to both of you for your help - I was worrying mad about this catch 22 situation. I can now plan how to enjoy the remaining days that I'll have in WA.

     

    Off topic:

    I opened a NAB simply because it was fee free and convienet through this forum. I will change accounts once I've started work, ING seems to offer the best bet with free withdrawals everywhere, but they are online only so couldn't open in advance.

     

    For transfering money I used TransferWise, they give better rates and charge much much lower fees.

  3. Yes we too just did it online. The only difference was. I contacted the uk migrant team and asked them to link my account to the branch on hay street nearest to Ahpra office so our bank cards would be there when we arrived. This made it easier for us so we could park car and do both activating bank account and Ahpra in same morning just walking a few hundred meters up the road. If we didn't get our account linked to the hay street branch in subiaco we would had to go to which ever branch they had decided to link our account to in order to collect bank cards.

     

    The branch they link you to is not guarenteed to help, you could be unlucky like us, we were sent to the thier choice of branch, we got there and the guy who does migrant banking was at a different branch that day even though we had booked an apointment so we had to walk to another branch, one next to AHPRA which was actually helpful but a bit of a walk. In Sydney there are a lot of branches in the CBD and all are fairly close.

    I opened my partners NAB account completly online. When you turn up you show passport and give them a local address (AirBNB) and then they hand you your card, ask them for a statement print out and take this to AHPRA.

     

    I actually did my NAB when we arrived without doing anything in advance and it was just as quick, the only difference was my card arrived in branch a couple of days later.

  5. We opened a NAB bank account from U.K. The migration team had the account linked to the hay street branch in subiaco. We flew out on the Saturday and had appointment at bank for 11am Monday morning to activate bank account. 30 min later we walked out with bank cards and statement with relatives address on ( you can give them any address). We walked a few hundred meters up hay street to Ahpra. My wife presented, signed stat declaration 30 min later all done. Within 24 hrs email received confirming registration complete and on register.

     

    I did the exact same as this, but I put the temporary address as the AirBNB we were staying in for a few days. You can tell AHPRA to post to a different address when you log in (you receive the email a few days after showing up) which I left as my parents.

  6. Hi everyone,

     

    I recently received my AHPRA registration approval "in principle" on an email where I have to reply via email to extend for 12 months which takes me to August 2017, in order to show my face, passport with ozzy visa and australian residential adress etc.. but I haven't had my visa approved yet and I'm not sure I'll be ready to emigrate next year, as I'm planning to do other things before hand.

     

    Is there a possibility to extend it further, as I thought I could go over on holiday to finalize the registration but I need an ozzy residential address according to the paperwork sent?

     

    I don't think you can extend further, they were picky with me due to the NMC statement being over 6 months old. We were in a similar scenario though, we are currently travelling Asia but had to be at Ahpra by September, our plans were not until December though.

     

    To get around this we started our travels with a week in Australia, we opened a NAB bank account which let's you provide a temporary address (hotel or Airbnb), we then got a statement print out with this address showing a balance of zero and used this for Ahpra registration. Ahpra send you a certificate, but you can set your postal address's to the UK until you actually move over.

  7. After thinking I had sent everything possible they could want. I've been asked today to send transcripts and copies of my GCSEs and a levels. I never received transcripts and I did these 15 years ago. Wtf!!! Anyone else had to do this stupidity? I have a degree and visa has been granted but AHPRA are ridiculous

     

    Which box did you tick for English Language, one of them wants proof of education as proof of English ability, maybe you ticked this.

     

    Your school or the exam body can send you copies, I got these for my partner direct from AQA the examining body.

  8. Hi everyone, looking for some advice!

     

    After a long wait (held back by the changes at AHPRA and topping up to my degree) I have FINALLY got my letter of eligibility from AHPRA for my registration!

     

    We have flights booked for April and are planning on working holiday visa in the first instance. We were thinking of finding 457 sponsorship once out there, but after doing some more research (mostly tax related) now feel 189 might be better suited.

     

    I've been looking into the modified ANMAC application, and I have already done and passed my IELTS but I wondered if I could still apply for the modified assessment as I haven't received a registration number yet - just the letter instructing me to attend the office in person with the valid visa/ID?

     

    Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Getting excited now it's getting closer!

    I'm afraid you can't do the modified assessment until you have your actual pin number. If you went over on a WHV and completed your registration then you could do the modified assessment, but not until you are fully registered.

  9. Thank you for replying. Think I need to just get on with things - so booking ielts academic tonight....then ahpra/amnac

     

    Not ideal but if you struggle with IELTS Academic but manage to get 7's you can then resit using the General to aim for 8 for points, or do the PTE-A, I could not get over 7.5 in IELTS Academic, but as I only needed 7 for my skills assessment I then did PTE-A to get maximum points.

    I am at the start of this process...

     

    I need 8's on ielts for points for 189 visa but for the purpose of AHPRA I can prove 5 years of taught english.

    What with the frequent changes in ahpra - would I be better to apply for reg first then go for modified AMNAC assessment and sit the general ielts for visa points.

    OR should I sit academic ielts (eek!) first , then go amnac and then ahpra... ????

     

    Hi, to do the modifed assessment you need to visit Australia or be in Australia before you can do this.

     

    When you compelte your AHPRA registration if you do not have an active visa in your passport (tourist is ok I beleive) then they will not put you on the register, and thus you can not use the modified assesment. To get on the register once you have completed application you need to turn up at an AHPRA office to finalise the application, you have up to 12 mnoths to do this stage.

     

    For this reason we went down the route of using me as an accountant for the visa as my partner was unable to get 7's in the IELTS due to dyslexia.

     

    Regardless of this, I would start you AHPRA and ANMAC processes at the same time as they both take time, no need to do one before the other as they both need mostly the same documents.

  11. Thanks for your reply Kylie. I have not arrived in Australia yet do you know if I still need two separate checks? I have lived in Ireland and currently based in the UK.

     

    Yes you will need to do a Fit2Work police check and an 189 Visa specific police check, you can not use one for both I am afraid. You will most likely need to do more police checks once you are over in Aus and applying for jobs as well, so that is 3 you need.

    AHPRA require a police check through Fit2Work, you have to do this and this police check is only valid for AHPRA. You need to do another police check for the visa application, which again is specific to the visa application and can not be used for anything else and this is done through a different company (ACRO).

  13. Your cv needs to be an original signed on all pages by you,

     

    I would get the references certified, AHPRA can be picky and if they question it after you've sent the originals you then need to get fresh ones.

     

    I wrote the statements for my partner and she just printed and got her manager to sign.

     

    Not sure on ANMAC I'm afraid as didn't do this part.

    Just thought I would ask a quick question as your answers have been really helpful to me so far. I'm just preparing all my documents to go to AHPRA, i'm concerned about getting them certified. Who did you go to? I noticed you lived in Horley and I live in Redhill so it would be good to know who you used?

    We used Graham Penn at Stevensdrake in Crawley, it cost £160.

     

    You have to use a Notary or Justice of Peace, I rang around a lot of notaries and all quoted similar price, the courts in crawley and redhill have JOP there but they were quite expensive.

  15. Yeah I have read that recently. I have been in the same job for 5 years so I don't have old pay slips. Should I try to get copies of old P60's? Or just wait and see?

    I'm also waiting to be invited by DIBP.

     

    I would guess as long as you can prove the work experience for the points that you claim you are ok, and I am guessing you are claiming 5 points so you can easily do this?

     

    If you are claiming points for all 8 years maybe send an email to the old HR department to be safe? I think you can go to HMRC and get 6 years of data.

  16. Does anyone know if we need to provide payslips or P60's to prove employment with NHS when applying for the 189 visa? I have three references for 8 years experience and one recent payslip. Any advice would be great :)

     

    I am not at this stage yet but I have got 1 payslip for all employees ready, I do not think this is required but I have read that people have been asked for this, in some instances up to 10 years back.

    Another question, in regards to the statement of service, which is meant to cover 5 years. Again, am I only going to include my current job (only nursing job I have had as just newly qualified). They don't want a statement from other jobs I have held in the past 5 years??

     

     

    I got my partner to write a couple of sentences for each placement (she had 6), also the hours need to be provided by university, it is ok to put them here but also ensure university provide this.

     

    Yes the statement of service needs to be provided for all nursing related jobs, if this is just one job then that is fine. I would say you should not be getting any shop/bar etc. jobs here as this is not relevant.

  18. Just means same as UK. ..you are saying that when you practice in au you will join a union

     

    It is not linked to unions, if you are a member of the RCN in the UK then they do not provide you any indemnity insurance unless you are self employed, the RCN scheme states "work performed under a contract of employment will be excluded", therefore if you are a contracted NHS employee the RCN will not help, however the NHS themselves should provide you with this.

  19. Im a registered children's nurse. I just don't understand the question and what I need to do for it. So I ticked yes. I'm planning to send my application to perth. I then have to start the process for ANMAC And visa but thought I would start with AHPRA with the view of potentially getting a working visa.

     

    Basically you need a type of insurance called indemnity insurance, without this you are NOT allowed to work as a registered nurse. Similarly in the UK you need this, however in the UK the NHS or Unions usually provide it.

     

    This question is asking if you plan to get this insurance, it is a pointless question as if you tick no you are not allowed to work and therefore your application will be rejected.

     

    By ticking yes you are agreeing that once you arrive it is your responsibility to make sure you have this insurance, either through a 3rd party, a union or an employer.

  20. Are you registered with the RCN? They will cover you in Australia? My first agency I worked for in Australia included indemnity insurance whilst I was employed by them. Where are you sending your application? I would avoid sending it to Sydney or Melbourne. I sent my application to Perth and it took 6 weeks to process. Good luck :)

     

    Just so you know RCN will not cover you in Australia, they changed their indemnity insurance policy recently. I had assumed they did (they use to) but if you go and read the latest documents it is not covered.

  21. In regards to the CV for AHPRA:

     

    I am a newly qualified nurse, so will only be including one job in the CV. Should I therefore include a little on the student placements I completed? I'm not sure if that's what they mean when they say "Internship and Observership - Provide in the chronology of the practice history details of internship rotations and any periods of observership"

     

     

    I included all placements as a student here, as this fits the details they are asking for. I would say it is better to include this than leave it out, as it is asked for.

  22. Statements of service would only be for nursing jobs.

     

    If your degree is from the UK you should not need IELTS, I submitted a letter relating to GCSE's being taught and assessed in English.

     

    Universirty have a set template letter to send AHPRA stating they are monitored etc. by the NMC, this has to come from university not from you although it will probably say the same thing.

    I am still able to access my university system, and am able to print out my transcript (although this will be on blank, non letterhead paper, and not signed) Would this be OK - as long as certified??

    Certifying a document you have 'made' yourself does not really prove anything I know these would be genuine results but for all AHPRA know you have simply made this up yourself, hence the need for official university copy.

     

    I have asked uni to provide a syllabus showing what I have been taught in order to qualify and register as a nurse in UK - they have pointed me to the NMC standards for pre-reg nursing - 152 pages - is this enough?     For me university sent a letter which referenced this, but also referenced the syllabus which itself was 90+ pages. AHPRA would know about the NMC requirements but they want to know what your degree has taught as well.

     

    They are very particular on what they need, so you need to provide it exactly as they ask otherwise you will cause delays in the process.

  24. Ah ok fair enough, I've read a lot about dodgy migration agents so thought you'd found one, but family help is good!

     

    If you are applying for AHPRA before have a visa then you can not do a modified assessment with ANMAC. When you complete your AHPRA registration as you do not have a visa you will only get a letter saying you are eligible for registration, you have to then go to an AHPRA office in Australia and present yourself to become fully registered.

     

    ANMAC require you to be on the actual nursing register to qualify for the modified assessment. I was going down this route myself originally as my partner is dyslexic and did not want to do the IELTS exam, however after further research realised this was not possible with the visa route we are going down.

     

    If you want to use a modified assessment you need to wait until you have a visa before registering with AHPRA as otherwise you won't meet their identification requirements.

  25. Do you think if I found that letter that my school initially typed with my results and then a further letter saying I attended and was taught and assessed in English- this should be enough??

    I did not send any GCSE certificates, and my partners GCSE's were form several examining bodies but we just sent the letter from one of them with a copy of the exam transcripts listing 5 GCSE's (she has more). The main point I asked AQA to write in their letter was that she was taught and assessed in English, basically the wording from AHPRA.

     

    This pharmacological part...? When I contact the university do I just ask them to include this when sending my transcripts? Or do I ask them to write a letter explaining that pharmacology was part of my course?

    When I sent an email to Uni I gave 3 basic bullet points (syllabus, clinical hours, pharmacology), they sent us an A4 page explaining pharmacology and the other relevant bits AHPRA needs, they referenced the syllabus as well.

     

    Also so we have recently been offered some money to explore our options with a migration agent...any suggestions from nurses who have used migration services.

    Who has offered you money, the migration agent? That sounds strange considering they would then charge you thousands of £'s to process it, not sure why they would give you money to start with. If you go with a migration agent ensure they are MARA registered, if not ignore them.

     

    We are doing this solo, applying for a 189 visa using my qualifications and I am adding my partner to my application. We could do it the other way around, but then you need to involve ANMAC and that is more money!
