  1. Please help.. hubby been offered a job subject to him completing all his vaccinations but we can't find anywhere to give adult whooping cough vaccine (still in U.K.) anyone else had this problem?
  2. I had no issues with a similar problem.
  3. Thanks everyone!! Can't wait to start and hopefully will book one way flights once I have an agreed start date. Oooh how very exciting!!!
  4. Well it all turned out quite positive as I had 2 interviews and was offered 2 jobs... one of which is a clinical nurse consultant post!!!
  5. Why are you getting certified documents? Can you explain? Won't you have the originals with you?
  6. Thanks everyone. Sunshine Coast appeals as well but will be led initially by where we can secure jobs. All very exciting. Pomms in oz has been invaluable
  7. Can you elaborate? Is Townsville cosmopolitan?
  8. Goingbacksoon - thank you for responding. Does it feel in anyway cosmopolitan? Are there many supermarkets and shops? How about eating out and public transport. Our research is making me sway to Townsville but jobs seem higher paid in Rocky. I assume cost of living is better than big cities? What are the styles of houses as we are hoping to buy a new build. Why did you leave?
  9. Hi all, I am currently applying for jobs in Australia, and have had a couple of interviews, namely Townsville and Rockhampton. Has anyone got any views or experiences on either they would like to share. We're a young couple (34 and 31) and ideally like to live on or near the coast. We like to eat out and the coffee shop culture. An opportunity for the beach, gardens and day trips etc. Is there any or much difference in affordability in the 2 areas?? We have never been to either place although we have visited Australia twice going to Cairns travelling down to Brisbane and staying at places in between. Last year we went to Sydney then went to Brisbane so have experience of the touristy areas only. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Tom and Lisa
  10. Hi All, we are due to move to oz early next year. Rather than resigning I'm considering applying for a career break in the first instance. Has anyone got any thoughts or tips? Has anyone got a copy of an application they would be happy to share. Many thanks :cute::cute:
  11. Hi not sure exactly but I have certainly been applying for jobs from the UK for roles in Australia. I've had 2 interviews and should hear by next week. If you can get an interview, it shows that the application must be suitable and have some interest in you. Goodluck, Tom
  12. Thanks everyone for your responses. It is greatly appreciated. Tom and Lisa
  13. Hi all, My wife and I are moving to Australia in Spring and have already activated our visas. Is there any way where we can have additional luggage allowance or is this just for those on PR and inactivated visas?? Thanks, Tom
  14. Thanks for the reply, hopefully they offer a job at the end of it! Someone else had said the same thing on one of the Facebook groups. So just sitting tight like a nervous excited kid
  15. Hi everyone, Just a little bit of a background, my wife and I have a permanent 189 visa status and I am the main visa applicant being a mental health nurse with a recent degree top up and AHPRA granted in principle with no restrictions. We activated this in December last year and ready to move with April pencilled pencilled in as a rough time. I have been applying for quite a few jobs and one came up in Townsville in the Acute Care Team and I was offered an interview which was 5am Tuesday morning. I felt this went 'OK' and although this was over the phone I was still quite nervous... even in my pyjamas! The interview panel consisted of 4 people with 6 questions in total, 4 scenarios, 1 conflict resolution and 1 about self care (looking after yourself, reflection, supervision etc) fairly straightforward although one of the questions threw me a little bit about the Mental Health Act. I had an email off the lady who interviewed me emailed me to say that the panel have 'progressed my application' and confirmed my references email addresses, and my visa status. Does anyone know what this means as I wasn't expecting contact so quickly (2 days later). She said after the interview that that were interviewing for 2 days and that I should expect some contact after about 1 week. Has anyone else had anything like this that has led to any job offer as I am hoping that this is a good sign. Thanks, Tom
  16. Hi, I sat my IELTS about 2 years ago and would certainly recommend watching the IELTS Ryan videos on YouTube (of all places) and this definitely helped with one of the writing questions and using the http://www.ieltsbuddy.com website. These are the only 2 sources I used and feel that these were brilliant and free of course. Best of luck. Tom
  17. I only added this for people who may have wanted to use it as a guide as I would have found this useful pre application. I know that the relocation costs are going to be much larger but in the grand scheme of things, hopefully will be worth it. We're 33 and 30 so the cost of leaving the NHS pension shouldn't affect us as much. We can only wait and see.
  18. Hi everyone, Just thought I'd share my current costs of our current (granted) visa. When we were researching the cost and processes this is one area that generates a lot of interest so here is ours for anyone wanting to know or interested if you're considering starting the application process. I am a nurse and needed both ANMAC and AHPRA. Current visa applied for was a joint 189; IELTS (booked 11 March 14, sat 24 April 14) - £140 University paperwork for the skills assessment (applied 25 April 14) - £50 + £5 solicitor fee ANMAC skills assessment (23 May 14) - £479 (I had a diploma at this point but was recently changed to you needing a degree for the ANMAC assessment) Solicitor document verification fee - £10 ANMAC postage - £10.05 University transcript and course details - £115 Certified docs for visa - £20 Joint visa application fee - £2916 Joint medicals - £660 Joint police checks - £90 AHPRA application cost - £270 (£15 postage fee) International police check - £90 LJMU course documents - £115 (LJMU - Liverpool John Moore's University - I didn't have these sent to AHPRA when I applied for my skills assessment which I should have done so had to pay again) UoC course documents - £10 (University of Chestrr where I completed the degree top up) Notary fee - £240 + £120 + £12.50 postage x2 (They asked for further documents to be verified although on the AHPRA website it didn't state that certain things needed verifying) Total cost (not including visa activation trip last December) £5365.05 :arghh:
  19. We would be flying from Manchester and likely to Sydney. I seen on a forum that someone had booked with VA but ended up getting on an Etihad plane. Tom

    One way flight

Hi everyone, My wife and I are emigrating to Australia next year, April hopefully as we have permanent visas (189) and I have just gained AHPRA but now need to look at one way flights. We have used Skyscanner and come across Virgin Australia but have no experience of these (log haul) Does anyone else have any experience or views on these?? Also who has been the best airline to fly with? Thanks, Tom
  21. Hi I am a mental health nurse currently in the UK with a 189 visa already granted and activated and just this week had an email from AHPRA saying that I have registration in principle pending self presentation to their office. I am looking to move with my wife and currently a community mental health nurse but have vast experience in crisis work and working within an a&e department here. I have been qualified since 2005 and also completed my Non Medical Prescribing course last year. Please let me know if I would be suitable. Thanks, Tom
  22. My husband is diabetic and he didn't have any issues with getting 189 grant. He is insulin dependent. One suggestion is to get a letter of gp stating that condition is stable, this might speed up decision as it will more than likely get referred.
  23. Would any of these areas offer jobs in other fields? I'm a middle manager in public service with lots of tranferable skills. I don't expect to come in at same level but am aspiring to a professional role.
  24. Thanks all for nice welcome. You only live once
