  4. Business groups and Australia’s union movement have joined forces to oppose any plans to reduce immigration levels, promoting a “migration compact” to keep permanent immigration at its current level of about 190,000 a year.

    Every year before the previous one, the number of visas granted were very close to the target figure. However, last financial year, the migration intake was significantly below the target (190,000 last year) for the first time in a decade.

  5. Hello,

    You can work full time in any field. It is not mandatory to work in your nominated occupation.

    Hello, I'm wondering if someone could answer what is probably a daft question.

    We are looking to make the move to Australia and the best way to do it for us is a 489 visa with myself as the main applicant. However, although my job is on the SOL it is likely to come off soon from what I have been hearing and jobs are becoming pretty scarce. In all honesty Im open to a change of career in any case. So my question is, to fulfil the requirements of a 489 i have to live in the area for 2 years and work for at least 1 year, does that job have to be in the occupation that I had when my visa was granted? I assume the answer is yes but i can't find anything definitive that confirms this.

    TIA

    Julie

  14. Hi Sina,

    That's great thanks for your response.

    Just have a couple more queries;

    1. I'm presuming I need to lodge a completely new skills assessment and just make ACS aware of my previous assessment?

    2. If I get a negative assessment for Computer Network and Systems Engineer is my current positive Business Analyst assessment still valid?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,

    1. I'm presuming I need to lodge a completely new skills assessment and just make ACS aware of my previous assessment? No further action is required to address your previous application; The system will automatically link your previously submitted information to new application.

    2. If I get a negative assessment for Computer Network and Systems Engineer is my current positive Business Analyst assessment still valid? Unless you provide false or incorrect information, a negative outcome cannot have an adverse impact on your previous positive assessment.

  15. Hi,

    I have recently received a positive skills assessment from ACS as a Business Analyst. However, I only have 60 points and with the threshold being at 70, realistically, my chances of receiving an invite are very slim at the moment.

    My job role is very varied and there is a lot of overlap with another category 263111 - Computer Network and Systems Engineer, which I could have applied under but didn't, for whatever reason.

    My questions are;

    1. Am I allowed to submit another skills assessment under 263111 - Computer Network and Systems Engineer?

    2. If successful, Can I have 2 EOI's running for each category?

    Many thanks

    Hello,

    1. Am I allowed to submit another skills assessment under 263111 - Computer Network and Systems Engineer? Yes

    2. If successful, Can I have 2 EOI's running for each category? Yes

    I had a similar case. If you believe you meet the ACS Skills Assessment Criteria for Computer Network and Systems Engineer, you can submit your application regardless of the outcome of your previous assessment. It is important to provide accurate information and avoid any contradiction between two applications.

    Kind regards,

    Sina

  16. Hello,

    Evidence of your full medical registration is accepted as evidence of a skills assessment. To be eligible to apply for general registration, you might have to complete 12 months supervised practice (under subclass 457 visa). To claim 20 points for your skilled employment, you should have at least 8 years overseas work experience plus 1 year Australian work experience over the past ten years.
