Hi Terry thanks for your reply and wow small world. Where in Norfolk are you? What did you use to do in Oz if you don't mind me asking? Unfortunately that is what I thought! I knew that the gorgon and other large projects have been running for a while now and thought they were nearly finished. Would you think there are any large projects on the horizon or not? Are there many jobs in fab shops close to Perth? At least if I get a job in one of those I would be getting my feet in the door! Many thanks for the info.

Thanks for the welcome. I can assure you that since the oil prices went down very low the industry is in a dip. Projects have been shelved and in the last month two fairly big local companies have gone bust! I'm sure once the oil price goes up it'll be fine though. So are you saying the oil and gas industry over in Oz is poor? What about the mining side?

Hello from chilly Britain First time poster so please be kind! My name is Ross I'm 29 years old and currently live in Norwich. I say currently as my wife and I are looking to move to Australia which is why I'm posting.We have been thinking either Brisbane or Perth as a location so just wondered what you guys would pick? I'm a coded pipe welder in the oil and gas industry and my wife is a nanny so I think Perth maybe a better option for my job? How is the oil and gas industry in Australia? Over here it's in a bit of a dip at the moment but I'm sure it will pick up soon. Another option is obviously working in the mining sector, how is the state of that? I know a few years ago coded welders were very much in demand is that still the case? I don't want to move only to find out that it's not the case anymore! What would also be helpful is if anybody could tell me what sort of salary a coded pipe welder is on.I think that's enough questions for one post! Any replies would be very much appreciated.
