  1. I have taken both the IELTS test and the PTE test. The PTE test is totally an uncontrolled environment, candidates are allowed to start at different times so when you are on the supposedly quiet section of your test, all you can hear are other candidates carrying out their speaking section which is extremely off-putting. Also my computer crashed mid way through the test. When you try to compain they don't want to know, they will not answer the formal complaint emails, and they will not provide the details of any external verifiers. Complete con if you ask me and would not recommend my worst enemy to sit this test. @IELTS all the way, at least this is a controlled and fair assessment. @PearsonPTE, never to be used again.

Anyone else had any issues? What are your thoughts?

  2. I don't think so.

I was traveling few times after lodging visa application and my agent didn't ask for any extra documents.

    Visa was granted.

    So good luck

I have question. If after launching application for visa 189, an applicant travels abroad(16 days), then is there a requirement to submit any document. If yes, then which one?
  3. Hi,

    Congratulation for your visa !

I am client of HSBC and they have branches in UK and in OZ.

It was pretty easy to open Australian bank account.

Also they have global view for all your accounts and easy transfers between UK and Australia. Down side is that exchange rate is not as good as brokers however you can negotiate with bigger sums.

    Good luck!

  4. Hi

It doesn't make sense what you are going to do.

If you have nomination for 190 it is much easier to include your wife as a dependant. She doesn't have to meet any special requirements as you are main applicant.

She does need IELTS with functional level of English otherwise you will be obligated to pay additional fee for her it was AUD4500 last year if I do remember correctly.

Oh and she can complete her IELTS after you will apply for visa so it will not stop you.

Additionally if she's got refusal last year how you can be sure that she will get visa after you. DIBP may ask you why you didn't include her in your application etc.

  5. In HSBC you can keep UK account plus you can have HSBC Australian one and very useful global view for your both accounts.

Also you can have either UK or Australian address.

To the list I would add:

    - search for temporary accommodation after your arrival and book if you know when you are traveling

    - research of area where you would like to live

  6. I used to travel with car seats within Europe and BA allowed me to take pram plus car seats for my twins (they are below 2 now). Car seats were additional checked baggage. You have to check allowance with airlines.

We are going to move to AU, however as per above comments we have decided to hire car with car seats at the beginning and buy approved car seats once we arrive.

  7. I think that most people who want to move to Australia search seek web site.

no worries ill look more towards seek and career. Yes im wanting to know where most people in UK go to search for jobs available in Australia. We are very short of chefs in Australia and have always brought in European chefs but they are slowing down also so the next country would be the UK as alot want to come to Australia and this would mean they are coming to a job to make life easier for them and their families.
  8. Thank you for your explanation.

    It is clear right now.

    Wish you nice day :)

Hi Slavka, As I put in my original post, because you're not an Australian Resident you will not need to file a tax return (in Australia). On your UK Tax Return you do need to put both the 1,000AUD that you've received (converted to GBP) and the 100 AUD of Tax that you've paid. How much tax you have to pay on this interest will depend on how much other income that you have, but if for example you're only a basic rate tax payer it will be 20% so 200AUD of Tax on the 1,000AUD less the 100AUD of Tax paid = an additional 100AUD of Tax to pay to HMRC (although as I said you have to convert the numbers to GBP on your tax return). Why it's very important to report both the gross income and the tax paid is that if you only report the net amount as you've suggested then you'd have to pay 20% of 900AUD to HMRC which is 180AUD so you'd be 80AUD worse off.
  9. Hi Ken,

Thank you for your reply however I do not understand everything.

Lets say I will have 1000AUD interests in Australian bank so I have to pay 10% in AU which will be 100AUD. I am not Australian resident. (Do I need to prepare tax return in AU in this case?)

Because I am UK resident I have to include interest from Australian savings minus tax already paid in AU which give me 900AUD.

Then my annual income in UK will increase and I will have to pay tax for additional 900AUD.

    Am I right?

    I appreciate your clarification.

Thank you so much once again.

As a non-resident you will have 10% Withholding tax deducted from your interest, but if you're resident in the UK you'll be paying more tax than that on your interest (assuming you earn more than the tax free threshold). Under the double taxation agreement you get to deduct the amount of Australian Tax that's been withheld from the amount of tax you have to pay on that interest in the UK. While a non-resident you won't have to pay any other Australian Tax nor will you need to file a tax return.
  10. Hi,

I've sold house in UK and I would like to transfer money to my AU account now because of good exchange rate.

However, I am going to migrate at some point during next year, not sure exactly when. Can be 6 months or even up to an year later.

Is there any issues with that like extra tax or something like that?

    I appreciate advise.

    Thank you.

  11. Hi Lynn,

I am in the same position,

I have over 10 years experience in oil and gas but onshore.

I was working for two years in Perth on Woodside project so I have few contacts.

Unfortunately it is quite at the moment but anyway we are going to move early next year.

I can always do something different until situation will change.

    Fingers crossed :)
