  1. Hi my employer has said he signs me off for 7 days for my farm work. That means my 88 days will come quicker than working the three Calender months is that correct?

Also if I for any reason I left or the work stopped my work would still be signed off for 7 days ? As far as I am aware it is more to the discretion of the employer if they sign you for 7 days or 5 than the visa bureau ?

  2. Okay, so I go to Australia tomorrow after so long organising and worrying it is finally here ! Thanks for your help and any last words of wisdom would be great ! Gutted to be leaving family but i am sure once I am there that will all be put to the back of my mind !

  3. Hi :)

We are travelling to Australia next year So we land in Sydney in January and will be spending a month there first off to get ourselves settled in.

The problem is we are struggling really with 'where to go from here' we would like to go somewhere chilled with beaches on your door step for a relax and a bit of night life for a meal and drink etc but we do not really know where to go. We have no real set direction apart from we want to start our 3 months work around march so between February and March we are all ears for anything really.

If anyone could give us any advice it will help a lot we have a few ideas but do not know where to take it from Sydney.

    Thanks for your help :D

  4. Yes it is handy for the CBD. Although it does get heavy traffic in rush hour, but like most places really. Not particularly handy for Bondi, that would be into the city and out again. It would be handier for Manly. I am not sure where to start in describing it visually, but it is somewhere I would be perfectly happy living in if I found the right property.

ETA: I just realised you only mean holiday accommodation, in that case nah it is not where I would base myself for a holiday.

Thanks for that :) what would be your reason not to base it as a holiday base for the month? It is about $400-500 cheaper than around bondi etc that's the Main reason we've been looking at it to be honest

  5. Hi

I have recently stumbled across some accommodation in Neutral Bay that me and my girlfriend are looking at booking for a month in Sydney in Jan 17 it is very reasonably priced so that is why we have stumbled upon Neutral Bay. I am just wondering what the area is like is it close enough to Sydney to still get the city experience? Is it quite accessible to get to Bondi, CBD Darling Harbour etc? And also just a vague overview of the area would be of great help and much appreciated :)

    Thanks for your time :)

  7. I too was in the same boat as a couple of you guys... got my degree in IT, and instead of going down the grad scheme route I decided to travel.

Loved every single minute, came home as I had a great job opportunity - now I'm earning heaps of money, doing my dream job.. but I felt like there's something missing... So I've gained the work experience I needed in order to apply for a permenant residency visa - and had it granted back in April.. I'm emmigrating to Aus in January!

The WHV was the best thing I could have done, and I don't regret a second of it! Travelling taught me so much, not only about the world, but about myself..

In my experience job opportunities will always come around & your careers not going anywhere.. Go for it! :)

I've also got some farming contacts in coffs harbour, so if you decide to go down the 2whv route and will be around that area feel free to give me a message :)

Thank you for the comment it has helped knowing different people's experiences as at first you feel like you're the first who's doing this type of thing. When in reality so many have done it before !

Could you message me the contact details for the Coffs Harbour farming as that would help so much for our second WHV. Thank you again !

  8. Wicked well done mate, bet you can't wait, it's gonna be a long 4 months now lol. Where you starting off at.

We are travelling to Sydney first to see some of my girlfriends family and then from there... Who knows ! Probably look at getting our farm work done after we've had a month or two settling in

  9. what kind of picking jobs are you looking at ? I can give you a bit of advice on that too

I don't really know to be honest. I am going with my Girlfriend who isn't the most physically strong of people but she works long days in restaurants etc. We are travelling in January going to have a bit of a holiday for a month or two then get into the farming after that so anytime after February or March any kind of job that will be eligible for our visa

  10. just be careful, because lets say, you're almost coming up to the end of your 3 months with the single employment and the fruiting has gone... therefore letting you go... you're going to be playing catch up, if you didn't work most days.

Record all your own working days too just incase.

Yeh I get you make sure you're in an employment that will see you out. I see advertisements stating 3 month periods so they'd be the best to go for in terms of security.

Thanks for that that has cleared up a lot for me I was under the impression no matter what you had to work 88 days even if you was in the same employment. So if you was lucky enough to stay employed for the three months and had a weekend off it wouldn't affect the three months because technically you're employed by them for that period

  11. Yeh just edited mine Aswell thanks for that. Ah I see so when companies are saying 8-12 hours work they're only saying this because of the hourly rate you could earn it doesn't really count to your 3 month sign off. So you just did for example 1st Jan to 1st April and it was signed off no matter how many hours you worked or days in the week ?

  12. Thank you for your reply !

Okay so if I stayed at the same farm for example for three months no matter how many hours I worked I'd get my 88 days ?

Also, I'm going in January probably looking at doing farm/fruit picking work around March April time is there much going on then

  14. there are two list at border.gov.au known as CSOL and SOL and for any visa your occupation needs to be on one. If you look at the lists next to the occupation and occupation number it states the assessing authority. You need to use this to find out the skills assessment requirements for your occupation.

It it may be worth having a initial consultation with a good agent to review. Most good ones will do an initial for free

Thank you I have just looked at the SOL list and there are three / four job titles I could come under so that's good new I suppose ?

Just done a quick assessment I scored

    65 for 189 independent

    75 for 190 state

    75 for 489 state

So they're the different visas I'm eligible for
