  1. You and the fam would be ideal contestants to go on that show Wanted Down Under!

Australia is great. It’s not paradise though as others have said. It’s not objectively “better” than the UK, except for maybe the weather, but even then I find winters here colder than the UK due to the pitifully poorly insulated housing. Generally jobs pay more here, but I don’t feel like I am accumulating more wealth here than I would in the UK, as cost of living (in my opinion) is higher. It can be hard to make genuine friendships over here, but that’s probably not unique to Australia. However be prepared potentially for periods of feeling lonely / isolated (especially in Perth which has a reputation for being insular).
Good luck with whatever choice you make.

Thank you red rose, I applied and was accepted but as we had booked our own holiday to Oz the BBC told us that would void us from the show
  2. I can say first hand how difficult things can be when one party is not fully on board.
My OH had a transfer offer with work. They’d had one a few years earlier and turned it down but knowing how mad keen I had been, said they would go this time provided I already had a job to go to (something I now believe they didn’t think would be possible and therefore a great get-out clause). I joined a company in the U.K. who were happy for me to continue working for them from Australia when the day came! Deal done in my mind. We have been here 6 years now and it is only in the last few months or so that anything and everything that has ‘gone wrong’ (no matter how small) has led to my OH telling me I dragged them kicking and screaming onto the plane, leaving everyone and everything they enjoyed behind [emoji20]
At no point did I get this impression before we left. Yes there were minor reservations but I wasn’t told how they really felt ‘for fear of ruining my dream’.

Hi louDyorkie, that really is a big worry for me to .....I fell that would happen every time something goes wrong
  3. No, that’s just your wishful thinking.

It could also be a handy excuse, because he knows there’s no way he can be assured of a job, so it’s never going to happen.

i suspect he thinks he’s being kind by not saying a flat-out No to your dream

Honestly, if he was as keen as you, would you still be just talking  about it ten years later?

You’re right there Marissa....would it be such an obstacle !

  4. Thank you so so much all, reading all your advice does really bring it home to me.

To answer some of your questions, I would have 75 points for 189. 80 for 190.

My oldest children would have enough points in 2 years should they come.

We wasn’t going to rent our home as the equity in our home would have been extremely useful for a deposit out in Oz.

But all your replies really does make me think that we have a really comfortable life here and maybe I’m chasing something that will ultimately give us a more difficult life :-(.

Thank you once again all x

  5. Here goes......

I’ve wanted to emigrate for about 10 years and have spoken about it continuously.

We have just come back from our second holiday to north of Perth and am still totally thrown whether to go.

Home here I have a very good job in being a nurse manager and my husband is in the fire service.

I have two younger and two older children. My older children are unsure of whether they want to move just yet and given their age (22) they would need to apply for their own skilled visa.

His concern is he would struggle to get in the fire service in Oz, but would like for any job if we made the move.

My biggest worry right now is in the UK we live very comfortably from a financial position. I know it’s not all about the money and that’s why we think Oz could offer a better life for our children but could we really have that life if at nearly 40 we have to start again.

I would love to hear how other families may have decided to love or return and the reason around that.

All I know is right now the decision is driving me and, I think of nothing else each day.

  6. Sorry I should have added that it would still take a few years to get it all sorted.
What I really meant was that at least they wont have to be looking at the full work experience to claim maximum points for it like I did.

Definitely I’m really grateful for any advice
  7. Without the experience (having only just qualified), they probably wouldn't yet pass the skills assessment.  It might be worth them looking up what the skills assessments entail and how much experience they'll need to pass

Definitely well with them doing that thank you
  8. The points are changing in November so would the lads qualify for 10points just for being single? Also if they got top Mark's in the English test that would place them on 30points already.
Factor in the points for there age and the points for there apprenticeships then I'd have thought that they wouldn't be far off without even looking at work experience.
Not sure if you get more points for the HND compared to the the apprenticeship also.

Hi Lavers, thank you very much that’s really useful and yeah you maybe right
  9. The same criteria applies. They can only go for PR if they meet the criteria. Almost everyone who goes on a WHV has to return, it’s just an extended holiday visa with work rights.  It’s a double edged decision as if they remain in the uk then they build up experience in their field which is unlikely to happen in Oz bearing in mind regional work and only being allowed to be with an employee max 6 months. Whilst they want to go now if they  remain in the UK to build up years of experience things change, they may meet a partner and then not want to go. They may decide on a WHV and one of them meet someone and settle and the other one  not and have to return alone.  You’re in a difficult situation, you need to go ahead with this if you really want to knowing they may never get there.  Speak to a migrant agent just so you know exactly where you stand but sadly there’s hundreds of thousands of early 20’s out there on WHV desperately trying to find a way to stay but for the most there just isn’t.

For all the same reasons as you’re mentioning really does worry me., not great news if I’m honest
  10. Apologies for that. They can only go on a visa they can obtain in their own right such as a skilled visa. At their age and experience, this would be impossible I’d say. They will need to build up years of experience and then hope their trades are on the skilled list.

That’s my worry thank you though for the information
  11. Lucie what anzsco code are you going to apply for your visa under and how many points do you calculate you will have yourself?

The 189 is very competitive and based on the news people are hearing about next year's limits will only get more competitive.

This year for instance (the OZ immigration year runs from July 1st - so we are almost through this year) no one had had a 189 invite with anything less than 75 points

Hi ausvisitor, my anzsco code would be 254412.

I’m the UK I’m an aged care nurse manager.

My points would current be 75 or 80 if I opted for 190

    Thank you

  12. Lucie - just to remind them that in order to qualify for the 2nd WHV they will need to fulfill the 3 months regional work during their first year.

Thank you Ali I didn’t realise that
  13. Thank you ausvisitor you’ve been really helpful.

Yeah it was always me who had the bug but after being there twice they both want to go regardless of my decision.

This is what worrying me more though is they have very good stable jobs here and they would be giving that all up.

That’s excellent news about the applying on shore to, thank you

  14. Ok thank you that’s really helpful

If they went on a two year working visa am I right in thinking they then have to return to the UK or could they apply for PR whilst out there ?

  15. Oh thank you very much for your reply that kind of worries me.
Would you know if there’s a visa out there that once I’m there I could say I would find them (like the old 176 visa)
