Yeah totally agree - I am impatient its like visa granted lets just get stuck in - then the oh steps in and mind boggles me with questions, what about this, have you thought about this- arghhhh I am a do - then think about it later person ( not sure if that is good or bad ) Just finding once I have sorted one thing - something new crops up to deal with Just hoping it all goes well - just so many things still to finalise but like you said find myself saying am I really moving across the other side of the world? then the "WHAT IF`S" set in.
  7. So we leave in 4 weeks - ouch Think the reality of moving half way round the world has hit! Bearing in mind I have never even visited Australia - I am planning on spending the next 4 years living there (thinking I have gone mad) My Oh and 2 girls are overly excited, He is even excited about his new job role. So was I, But now I am scared! It all feels daunting with so much to do, so many decisions to make (are they the right ones) Its all becoming overwhelming Has or is anyone else feeling like this?
  8. Thank you will look into them - they seem to have a good reputation. so much to sort out

  10. Hi Thanks for the info, I just like to have everything in place - over organiser and planner and feel out of my comfort zone with the move. We are going into a furnished home for 4 weeks, so are hoping that will give us time to settle in have a look with our own eyes and make self judgements about areas we would like to live in and schools. I know it will be a total transition from them. I am originally from Ireland and even the education system there to the UK is different. I will not be comparing , it was just a worry will the girls be able to do what is expected of them. Yes I guess I am the parent that over- worries too much. My girls are bright but very different, the eldest is very out going and has a very short attention span and needs to encouraged. But is academically where she needs to be. My youngest is an over achiever and excels. I just want the best for both of them as they require different needs. As for immunisations - is this just the red book? or do I ask the Gp for a copy? I did not know we needed proof of immunisations? Also is there anything else regarding schools I should be aware about? Thanks for the replies I really appreciate them. It is helping to de boggle my mind
  11. No he is working off in the middle of nowhere - a place called (dingmore) I think that is what it is called not 100% sure. I shall keep that in mind, talking about houses we have looked at houses with pools - obviously more expensive with that without. Is it more a luxury to have a pool or a necessity? - in terms of the girls with a total weather change and being able to cool down?
  12. Thank you. It just seemed a lot of people rated private schools over state schools. It is nice to know that the state schools in the are have a good reputation with positive reports. I will look into the other areas as well. Thanks again
  13. Hi Fish o/.1 Thanks for that we are not totally set on the gapp its just what others who work in the same company have recommended We are open to family areas in Brisbane The other half finds the Gapp a little green/leafy and automatically thinks more creepy/crawlies lol As for transport - we both drive so would not use public I wont be working so can focus my time totally around the girls There are just so many schools - it feels like a minefield
  14. Hi , unsure about state or private state has had some bad reviews? the girls are in state school here but they vary depending upon where you live for example you could pay double in a house price to live in an area with a good catchment area for a school - which we did But private schooling in the Uk for us is totally out of league - 20 k a year each It does seem to be a lot more accessible out there So being honest I am totally lost I would rather find a lovely school for the girls and find somewhere to live near there? I wont be working, it will be dad that is - so all my time will be focused around the girls Any ideas on family areas in Brisbane would help We where told the gapp as that is where his work colleges live and travel to work from there But looking on school websites it asks about transfer files and even what can parents offer the school - not used to that question
  15. Thanks for that Its a minefield trying to find the best school most people say find where you would like to live then base a school around it I think a good school for my girls is more important that choosing where we would like to like I would decide upon the best school for the girls But that is just me I guess
  16. awh thanks for the reply can I ask in which area you enrolled? Did you just email the school or call directly? I have looked on the school websites and the application forms seem easy enough although it does say about transfer files and interviews and that still does not hold a place Also its catchment are based and you need to have a current address out there
  17. Hi We are a family of 4 moving to Brisbane - visa granted just need to book flights An area is yet to be decided upon - But people have recommended Gapp we have 2 girls aged 6 and 7 I am confused as to what school I should apply for? how to go about it? Some schools have even said they would like an interview? But I just wondered do you have to ask the primary school in the Uk for transfer files to take with you? or does the new school contact the old school? I am a little lost with the whole process to be honest So any help on the school situation- would be gratefully appreciated Thank you
